Pérez delivered a sacrifice fly in the home half of the first inning that gave the Tigers a 3-2 advantage. He then led off the fourth inning with a double, advanced to third on a ground ball and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Zach McKinstry. The 25-year-old outfielder is enjoying a solid season offensively, slashing .272/.332/.484 with 12 long balls, 38 RBI and seven stolen bases in 310 plate appearances.

Pérez smacked a go-ahead RBI single off of Mets’ rookie right-hander Nolan McLean in the home half of the first inning, giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead. He also singled in the seventh inning but was erased on a double play. Pérez then contributed to a three-run rally in the ninth inning with an RBI double and he scored on an RBI knock by Zach McKinstry. For the season, the switch-hitting outfielder is now slashing .266/.323/.479 with 12 homers, 37 RBI and seven stolen bases in his first 294 plate appearances.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Pérez is doing well and is available off the bench to pinch-hit, if necessary, after exiting Saturday’s contest with a right foot contusion. It appears the 25-year-old managed to avoid serious injury since precautionary imaging didn’t reveal any fractures or structural damage. It’ll be Javier Báez heading out to patrol center field in his absence on Sunday afternoon. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day heading into Monday’s series opener against the White Sox.

The bad news is there’s pain and swelling in Pérez’s right foot. The good news is the outfielder has already undergone imaging and there’s no structural damage. Consider the 25-year-old day-to-day.

Pérez fouled a ball off his foot in the second inning, and it’s possible — if not probable — that is his reason for the early exit. He’ll likely undergo testing to determine the severity of the injury.

The home run was Perez’ ninth of the year. He hit a two-run shot off Travis Adams in the fifth inning, tying the game 2-2. Perez is 10-for-21 (.476) with two home runs and four RBI over his last six games. He’s raised his average from .235 to .262. He has an .805 OPS and 25 RBI this year.

It was all weak contact from Pérez, who didn’t start against a right-hander on Sunday. He was a great surprise for the Tigers upon returning from the IL in late May, but he’s hit .169/.224/.211 in 76 plate appearances this month, dropping his OPS from .944 to .722. The Parker Meadows injury helps him for now, but if the Tigers add a bat or two at the deadline, he might find his playing time diminishes rapidly.

The Tigers have Matt Vierling in left and Zach McKinstry in right tonight. It’s the second time in the Tigers’ last three games against righties that Pérez has taken a seat, which seems kind of odd because he typically hits third against them when he does play. The switch-hitting Pérez is batting .231/.297/.398 in 118 plate appearances against righties this season, compared to .344/.371/.781 in 35 plate appearances against lefties. It’s probably a fluke, though, as he was better against righties than lefties in each of the previous three seasons.

The 25-year-old outfielder got the Tigers on the board and evened things up at a run apiece with his 402-foot (105.1 mph EV) solo shot off of Slade Cecconi in the third inning. That would be his only hit in four at-bats on the night, but it was critical to the team’s victory. On the season, he’s slashing .269/.316/.565 with seven homers and 19 RBI in his first 117 plate appearances.

With the Tigers’ lineup at full strength for the first time all season, manager A.J. Hinch is going to have to mix and match, which means more days off for most of his regulars. On Sunday, that means Pérez and Matt Vierling getting a breather. The 25-year-old outfielder has been awfully impressive through his first 99 plate appearances, slashing .289/.343/.611 with six homers and 17 RBI.

Pérez has been good since coming off the IL, slashing .296/.346/.648 in 22 games with six home runs and 13 RBI. He’s seen gains in his exit velocities and is pulling the ball in the air more than he did in his rookie season. With Matt Vierling sidelined, Pérez has become the regular right fielder for the Tigers and is worth adding in deeper formats.

Perez got the Tigers on the board in this one with a 384-foot (101.0 mph EV) blast off of Bailey Falter in the second inning that gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead. He gave them the lead once again in the sixth inning with an RBI triple off of Carmen Mlodzinski that plated Riley Greene. The 25-year-old outfielder has done nothing but hit since returning from the injured list, slashing a robust .316/.355/.702 with five homers and 10 RBI in his first 62 plate appearances.

Perez has been mostly an everyday player since his return from the injured list, but he’ll get a breather in this one. Jahmai Jones will function as the team’s designated hitter and bat leadoff against left-hander Keegan Akin. Akin will function as an opener for the Orioles on Thursday evening.

Pérez struggled this spring before going down with a back injury and played in just six rehab games, four of them in A-ball, before being activated last week, so weren’t expecting much here. However, he’s opened up 6-for-19 with two homers and two doubles. He’s not a mixed-league option, but maybe he won’t lose as much playing time to Parker Meadows as previously seemed likely.
