Anthony isn’t in a rather strange Red Sox lineup tonight; Wilyer Abreu is sitting for a third straight game, this time against a right-hander. It suggests he’s either banged up or maybe in line for a demotion, though that would be surprising. The Red Sox have Ceddanne Rafaela in right field and Kristian Campbell in center tonight.

MassLive’s Chris Cotillo whispered it first, and it was soon confirmed by Worcester reporter Katie Morrison-O’Day, who caught Anthony leaving the ballpark. Anthony, who is worth grabbing in all formats, should be available off the bench.

That’s how you give the WooSox faithful at Polar Park something to remember for years to come. The legend continues to grow as Anthony’s latest gargantuan blast to right-center field carried a stratospheric 115.6 mph exit velocity. It’s the longest home run tracked by Statcast at any level in baseball this season, per MLB.com’s Allison Mast. It was also his 10th round-tripper of the year. It’s mystifying what the Red Sox are doing at this juncture since Anthony is certainly capable of providing an offensive spark, even in his first exposure to the big leagues. There’s been zero indication that a call-up is imminent, but fantasy managers should anticipate Anthony arriving at Fenway Park at some point soon. There’s nothing left for him to prove in the minors.

Anthony’s two-out blast — his ninth round-tripper of the season — sent the contest to extra innings where the WooSox pulled out a walk-off victory. The 21-year-old prodigy’s clutch hit carried a stratospheric 110.5 mph exit velocity and traveled 428 feet to right-center field. He has almost nothing left to prove in the minors and the Red Sox could certainly use his bat in their lineup as they continue to slide in the AL East standings.

The start of a three-game series at Fenway Park ahead of a series against the Yankees in New York feels like potentially the ideal spot for the Red Sox to finally break Anthony into the majors. We’re not holding our breath, but Saturday’s shutout loss at the hands of Atlanta might be the straw that breaks the camel’s metaphorical back in Boston’s front office. The 21-year-old top prospect is hitting .305 with a stratospheric .935 OPS across 52 games this season at the Triple-A level. His athleticism paired with above-average plate skills and ability to consistently generate hard contact are what separates him from nearly every other prospect in the game right now. He should be rostered in all fantasy formats.
