Rooker tied the game at 6-6 in the eighth winning with 12th homer of the 2025 campaign. He did hit into a double play with the bases loaded in the 10th with a chance to win the game, so he had a chance to make a good fantasy day into a great one. Rooker hasn’t been as good in 2025 as he was in 2024, but he’s still provided relevancy with his power.

Rooker drew a walk in the first inning and stole second before scoring on a base hit to put the A’s on the board. He reached again in the third with a single and stole second again for his second swipe of the day. Rooker later doubled in the eighth and scored a second time before collecting a third hit in the ninth. The 30-year-old slugger is having a solid season at the plate, slashing .255/.323/.497 with nine homers, 25 runs scored, 19 RBI and two steals across 164 plate appearances.

With the score tied at 1-1, Rooker came to the plate against Luke Jackson and clobbered a pitch over the left-field fence to give the A’s a 3-1 lead. The Athletics would score four more on a grand slam by Lawrence Butler in the inning to turn a nailbiter into a blowout. Rooker has gone deep eight times in 30 games — putting him around a 40-homer pace — and remains one of the most underrated offensive weapons in the sport of baseball.

If you’re going to have to sit out a game, doing so against Jacob deGrom makes plenty of sense. Seth Brown will function as the A’s designated hitter on Thursday evening and will bat sixth against the Rangers’ right-hander.

With the score tied 1-1 in the sixth inning, Rooker swatted a solo homer to center to give the A’s the 2-1 lead and ultimately the victory. That’s now his sixth homer of the campaign, and his slugging percentage is up to .489. The average is still just .244, but the power production is tough to complain about, so we won’t.

That noise you hear is the footsteps of top prospect Nick Kurtz nearing the major league roster. With Kurtz crushing the ball in Triple-A, the Athletics are trying to make room in the lineup, and Rooker being able to play the outfield regularly would allow Kurtz and Tyler Soderstrom to trade off between 1B and DH. You should be stashing Kurtz in your leagues if he’s still available.

Rooker singled off of Sean Burke in the opening inning and rode home on Tyler Soderstrom’s first three-run blast. He then singled in the sixth inning and once again rode home on a three-run bomb by Soderstrom. The 30-year-old slugger also worked a walk to start the ninth inning and raced around to score on an RBI double off the bat of Shea Langeliers. He’s off to a bit of a slow start at the plate this season, slashing .205/.256/.411, though he does have four home runs and eight RBI to his credit.

Rooker will appear in the outfield for the second time this season as the club appears to be preparing for the inevitable arrival of top prospect Nick Kurtz, who will presumably take over as the club’s starting first baseman with Tyler Soderstrom shifting to DH. His promotion doesn’t appear imminent, but it’s definitely coming in the near future, thanks to his absurd start to the season at Triple-A Las Vegas.

He’s playing right, as Lawrence Butler has this one off. Rooker ceased playing the outfield last year because of an elbow problem that required offseason surgery. Now that he’s recovered, it sounded like he’d be an option in a corner at least a couple of times per week this year. He did play left in three games this spring, but this is the first time he’s played the outfield during the regular season. This will, of course, lead to speculation about a Nick Kurtz callup, but the A’s are going to need Rooker to play the outfield to play pretty regularly for that to work out. It’s unclear right now if that’s a possibility.
