The 33-year-old southpaw scattered five hits on the evening and did not walk a batter. He threw 75 pitches in the outing, 51 of those for strikes, while sitting 92-94 mph with his fastball and topping out at 95 mph. The expectation had been that Rodón would make one additional minor league rehab start before joining the Yankees’ rotation, though it’s possible his timeline gets pushed up given how dominant he was on Thursday.

Rodón was up to 65 pitches in his last rehab outing, so the thought was that the Yankees would let him throw one more time on Thursday and then potentially rejoin the rotation. It seems like he’ll make one more rehab start next week, probably on Tuesday the 5th or Wednesday the 6th, and then return to the Yankees the week of May 11th.

There was a chance that Rodón would be summoned to make his season debut later this week after throwing 65 pitches in his previous rehab start last Friday. The 33-year-old veteran southpaw, who is coming back from offseason elbow surgery, will get at least one additional tune-up outing to continue building up his pitch count and stamina before making his season debut in early May.

The results are insignificant as the more important variable is that Rodón built up his pitch count to 65 in his rehab debut. It’s possible the Yankees will have him make an additional tune-up start next week before bringing him back for his season debut. There should be some clarity on his status at some point later this weekend.

Rodón will need a couple rehab outings to build up his pitch count and stamina, but he appears on track to make it back to New York’s rotation at some point in May. The 33-year-old underwent offseason elbow surgery after finishing last year with a strong 3.09 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 203/73 K/BB ratio over a career-high 195 1/3 innings.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters he expects Rodón, who is scheduled to throw a 55-60 pitch live batting practice session on Saturday, back before fellow rehabbing starter Gerrit Cole (elbow), who made his first rehab start on Friday at Double-A Somerset. The 33-year-old southpaw is working his way back from offseason elbow surgery, in addition to a hamstring-related setback, and figures to be ready to make his season debut at some point in May.

Rodón should be ready to make his first rehab start at some point next week. The 33-year-old’s recovery from offseason elbow surgery has been slowed by a minor hamstring issue recently. He’s on pace to make his return to New York’s rotation at some point in May.

Rodón’s next steps would either be another live batting practice session or heading out on a minor league rehab assignment. The 33-year-old southpaw will need a couple tune-up outings to get back up to speed before making his season debut at some point in May.

No next step for Rodón has been determined yet, but it’s good news that he made it through a bullpen session. Rodón’s hamstring injury is an additional deterrent to his return from bone spurs in his elbow, but it shouldn’t be long before he begins a rehab assignment.

Rodón is on the injured list while recovering from off-season surgery to remove bone spurs from his elbow. He felt some tightness in his hamstring recently, which has delayed his throwing progression, but if all goes well in his bullpen session on Saturday, then he could begin a rehab assignment as soon as next week.

Boone added that Rodón was able to throw on Tuesday without any issues. It’s a bit unclear whether the issue will slow down his ramp-up process in any way. The 33-year-old southpaw is trending towards a late April or early May return to New York’s rotation after undergoing offseason elbow surgery. He was expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment shortly, but that might be on hold temporarily.

Rodón remains on track to return to New York’s rotation mix at some point in April after undergoing offseason surgery to remove loose bodies from his left elbow. The 33-year-old southpaw will require a couple minor league rehab outings to build up his pitch count and stamina but he’s getting closer.

Rodón had a procedure in the offseason to remove loose bodies in his elbow. He has been throwing live batting practices and will do so again this week. Boone wasn’t sure if Rodón would get into a spring training game, but he will pitch in the minor leagues at the start of the season and should be up with the Yankees before the first month is over. At this point, Rodón probably needs to be getting drafted closer to guys like Zack Wheeler (shoulder) and Brandon Woodruff (lat) who are both also likely going to be delayed to start the season.

It’s the first time that the 33-year-old southpaw has faced live hitters since undergoing surgery to shave a bone spur and remove loose bodies from his elbow. It’s possible that he could make it into a Grapefruit League game before the end of the spring and he remains on track to rejoin the Yankees’ rotation at the end of April.

Rodón, who had a procedure in October to shave a bone spur and remove loose bodies from his elbow, thinks he’ll be back pitching in games in spring training, though he knows he’ll open up on the injured list. “I’ll be a little behind. I’m not sure exactly when my first start will be, but I’m hoping sooner rather than later,” he said.

We already knew that the left-hander was unlikely to be ready for the start of the season, but now we have a more firm timeline. Given Rodón‘s lengthy injury history, we would assume he doesn’t debut until May. He would present a major risk/reward for fantasy managers who are willing to roll the dice after he had bone spurs removed from his elbow this off-season

Aaron Boone suggested that he’d be delayed a few weeks entering the year. Being still four months away from the start of spring training, bone spur surgery seems like something Rodón could recover from and still be ready for Opening Day. Still, there’s not much harm in playing it safe in April. This could quiet any talk about the Yankees moving Luis Gil to the pen next spring. As of right now, Gil and Will Warren are the third and fourth starters behind Max Fried and Cam Schlittler.

Rodón gave up nearly as many runs as outs recorded in an unexpected implosion at the worst possible moment for New York with their season on the line. The veteran southpaw found himself in hot water right away as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. took him deep for a two-run homer in the opening frame before things snowballed completely out of control in a calamitous four-run third inning that featured three consecutive run-scoring singles that chased him from the contest. He struck out two and also issued two walks in the abbreviated 67-pitch outing.

Rodón, who allowed three runs over six innings in Wednesday’s Game 2 win over the Red Sox earlier this week, will follow Luis Gil and Max Fried at the outset of the best-of-five series. It’s not official yet, but we’re assuming it would be rookie Cam Schlittler drawing the starting assignment for Game 4, if the best-of-five series gets there.

Rodón was handed an early two-run lead and was unable to make it stand up as Trevor Story single-handedly kept Boston in this one with a third-inning two-run single and a sixth-inning solo homer. The 32-year-old lefty managed to work into the middle innings, piling up six strikeouts and handing out three free passes. He walked Nate Eaton on four pitches and uncorked a wild pitch that put the potential go-ahead run in scoring position. He was lifted from the contest in favor of reliever Fernando Cruz after hitting Jarren Duran to put two on with nobody out.

Rodón gave up four hits, walked one and struck out five. The 32-year-old left-hander put the finishing touches on arguably the best season of his career. Rodón set career-highs in wins (18) and innings (195 1/3). With three games left in the season, he’ll finish with a 3.09 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 203 strikeouts. Rodón is lined up to start Game 2 of the playoffs.

The Yankees will clinch a playoff birth with a win on Tuesday against the White Sox, so they appear to be reconfiguring their rotation for the AL Wild Card round. With Max Fried starting on Wednesday, he will be on regular rest for Game 1 of the playoff series, and Rodón will now be available for Game 2 on regular rest.

Rodón won his career-high 17th game with his fifth straight quality start. The streak would be eight in a row if he hadn’t come up one out short in one of his wins last month. He’ll try to go to 3-0 in three starts against Baltimore back at home next weekend.

Both runs came in the fifth after Rodón loaded the bases on a single, a walk and an HBP. He recovered to strike out Jahmai Jones for the second out, but Gleyber Torres then dropped a ball into center for a two-run single. Rodón had won his last six decisions dating back to July 21 and is still 16-8 after losing this one. He’ll miss the Red Sox in Boston this weekend and face the Twins on Monday.

Rodón won a fifth straight start and now has 16 victories, matching Freddy Peralta for the major league lead. Interestingly, Rodón, who fanned three tonight, has just 21 strikeouts and 13 walks over 30 2/3 innings during this stretch. That’s a 17.3% strikeout rate, compared to 27.9% in his first 24 starts. It hasn’t mattered yet, but it’d be nice to see some more strikeouts next week versus the Tigers.
