Deja vu. The Braves previously claimed Ragsdale off waivers from the Orioles on Sept. 17, DFA’d him on Sept. 22 and watched him get reclaimed by Baltimore on Sept. 25. Ragsdale, 27, was previously a Giants prospect who had a 5.22 ERA and a 77/48 K/BB in 89 2/3 innings in Triple-A last season. His strikeout rates were considerably better previously, and there’s still a chance his fastball, curve and splitter could make him a fifth starter or useful reliever. He has options remaining, so he’ll probably open 2026 in Triple-A.

Ragsdale’s removal from Baltimore’s 40-man roster at the outset of the offseason isn’t a total shock after he was lit up in a pair of late-season relief appearances. The 27-year-old former pitching prospect could attract some interest on waivers.

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for Ragsdale, who finds himself back in Baltimore’s bullpen for the final weekend of the regular season just a couple days after being claimed off waivers from Atlanta. The 27-year-old rookie was hit hard earlier this month in his big-league debut. He’ll likely pitch in mop-up duty this weekend against the Yankees.

The Orioles claimed Ragsdale off waivers from the Giants in August, lost him to the Braves on waivers a week ago after one major league appearance and now have him back. Ragsdale’s one appearance for the Orioles, when he gave up eight runs in three innings, is his lone MLB experience. He’ll surely go back on waivers next month, but the Orioles will hope to keep him in the organization.
