Rodríguez poked a double down the left-field line against Toronto starter Shane Bieber to open the contest before Josh Naylor delivered a run-scoring single to right field to put Seattle ahead. He took Bieber deep in the third inning for his fourth big fly of the postseason. It wouldn’t be enough as the Mariners’ bullpen coughed up the lead in the late stages of the contest and Rodríguez wound up striking out against Blue Jays closer Jeff Hoffman to end it.

The Game 5 revamp worked out pretty darn well, so the Mariners are running it back tonight. The lineup: Rodríguez (CF), Cal Raleigh (C), Jorge Polanco (DH), Josh Naylor (1B), Randy Arozarena (LF), Eugenio Suárez (3B), J.P. Crawford (SS), Dominic Canzone (RF) and Leo Rivas (2B).

Rodríguez gave the Mariners a good start with a two-run blast off Shane Bieber in the first. It was all Toronto from that point on. It’s still nice to see the offensive fireworks from the 24-year-old, but the Mariners lead in the ALCS drops to 2-1, and they’ll need more fireworks from Rodríguez in Game 4 against Max Scherzer and the Blue Jays on Thursday.

Rodríguez crushed a tone-setting blast down the left field line against Blue Jays rookie sensation Trey Yesavage in the first inning to give Seattle an early advantage. It was one of three big flies in the contest for Seattle as they rolled to a lopsided victory in the Rogers Centre to take a commanding 2-0 lead with the best-of-seven series shifting to Seattle.

The Tigers had just scored two runs in the top half of the eighth inning to tie the game at 2-2. The M’s then rallied against Kyle Finnegan as Cal Raleigh smoked a one-out double into the right field corner and Rodríguez followed with an RBI double into the left field corner. He then advanced to third on an infield single by Jorge Polanco but was cut down at the plate on a fielder’s choice. Thanks to his heroics though, the M’s will head to Detroit with the series tied at one when they take on Jack Flaherty on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old outfielder opened the scoring in the ballgame as he tagged Tigers’ right-hander Troy Melton for a 413-foot (109.5 mph EV) solo shot in the fourth inning. Rodríguez also delivered a game-tying RBI single in the sixth inning that knotted things up at two runs apiece. He also singled with two outs in the 11th inning to keep the Mariners’ hopes alive, but he would be left stranded as the tying run. The M’s now have their hands full staring at a 1-0 deficit and having to battle Tarik Skubal in Game 2 on Sunday.

The steals were his 29th and 30th, giving him the 30/30 season he was aiming for. It’s the second time he’s accomplished the feat in four big-league seasons, as he finished with 32 homers and 37 steals in 2023. He also has 32 homers right now.

Rodríguez matched his high for homers from 2023. In spite of his poor start and his being overshadowed by his team’s catcher, he’s going to deserve down-ballot AL MVP votes.

The 24-year-old outfielder smacked an RBI double off of Kyle Hendricks in the third inning that extended the Mariners’ lead to 3-0. He then stole third base and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Josh Naylor. Rodríguez also delivered an RBI double in the fourth inning that made it a 6-0 game and scored on an RBI single by Naylor. He has been locked in at the plate since the All-Star break and is now hitting .269/.321/.478 with 30 homers, 91 RBI and 27 stolen bases on the season.

With the pair of homers, Rodríguez has his second 30-homer career of his young — but impressive — career. Both were two-run shots, and the second gave Seattle a 4-2 lead they didn’t look back from. He also singled and scored a third run, and his slash is up to .265/.317/.475. Second-half Julio is very much a real thing.

J-Rod smoked a two-run homer over the left-field fence in the eighth inning to get the Mariners to within a run. It wasn’t enough. Rodríguez now has 26 homers on the season, and has a good chance of breaking his career-high of 32 if he keeps playing this well. That’s certainly possible, but we’ve seen an awful lot of ups and downs from Rodríguez over his (relatively short) career.

Unfortunately, the rest of the Mariners combined to go 2-for-28 today. Rodriguez’s homer was his 25th, and it gave him 71 RBI and 82 runs scored. He’ll need to stay hot, but he has a shot at topping his career highs of 32 homers, 103 RBI and 102 runs scored from 2023. That would have been hard to imagine a month ago.

Rodríguez smacked his fourth triple of the year off an otherwise-effective Trevor Rogers, and he scored the first run of the game on an RBI single from Josh Naylor. He came up big in the ninth with a single up the middle, and he stole his 23rd base of the season before scoring on a fielder’s choice from Naylor. Rodríguez has looked the part and then some since the middle of July, and the fantasy numbers should continue to be there for the remainder of 2025.

More like Two-lio Rodríguez, am I right, folks? Rodríguez scorched a 436-foot homer to give the Mariners a 2-1 lead in the first, and then lined a shot over the left-field fence for his second homer of the game. He’s now homered 23 times in 2025, and four of those have come in August. The streakiness may never go away, but when he’s got it working, there aren’t many better.

The 24-year-old superstar reached on an error by Brooks Baldwin in the sixth inning, swiped second base and darted over to third on a wild pitch, though the M’s were unable to cash him in from there. Rodríguez finished the day 1-for-5 and is now hitting .254/.309/.438 with 21 homers, 62 RBI and 22 stolen bases (in 26 attempts) on the season.

Rodríguez scorched a homer off a wholly ineffective Jonathan Cannon to give Seattle a 7-1 lead. The homer is the 21st of the season for the 24-year-old, but just the sixth that has come at home. Rodríguez still frustrates with some of his swing decisions, but the overall results for a player who doesn’t turn 25 until the end of the year have been pretty dang good.

The 24-year-old superstar ambushed a first-pitch slider from Jacob deGrom in the third inning, crushing a 391-foot (103.6 mph EV) go-ahead two-run shot that gave the Mariners a 3-2 lead. Rodríguez also singled with two outs in the fifth inning and swiped second base, but the M’s couldn’t cash him in from there. On the season, he’s now slashing .252/.308/.435 with 20 homers, 59 RBI and 21 stolen bases. In doing so, Rodríguez became the first player in MLB history to accumulate 20 or more homers and 20 or more stolen bases in each of his first four seasons.

J-Rod took Jeffrey Springs deep in the first inning for his 19th homer of the season. The outfielder continues to show off the power in July, as this was his eighth homer in the month and five of those came on the seven-game road trip. Fantasy managers can certainly marvel at what Rodríguez has done in the second halves of seasons, but also — even at the age of 24 — wonder if he can start doing this on a more consistent basis to justify his lofty draft status. The answer is yes. Probably.

It’s the third-straight game that Rodriguez has gone deep, and it’s the second time this year that the 24-year-old has reached that fete. He’s now up to 18 homers on the season, and seven of those have come in the month of July.

It’s impressive to have a two-homer game against anyone. Hitting two homers against someone like José Soriano — a pitcher that had allowed all of five homers in 120 innings this year coming into Friday evening — is another. The pair of homers bring his total to 17 on the season, and he’s now plated 54 runs. Second-half Julio appears to be here, and fantasy managers should be thrilled.

Rodríguez tied the game at 1-1 with a long opposite-field homer off Yusei Kikuchi. The homer gives the 24-year-old 15 on the season, and the steal gives him 20. That’s significant, as Rodríguez is now the first player in MLB history to hit 15 homers and steal 20 bases in his first four seasons. The inconsistency can drive fantasy managers bonkers, but there’s enough of these games to believe the man they call J-Rod can be the best player in the sport someday.

Rodriguez’ home run was No. 14 on the year for him. The 24-year-old outfielder crushed a solo shot off Jack Flaherty in the third inning. Rodriguez would go on to have a huge game with multiple extra-base hits, three runs scored and a stolen base. He heads into the All-Star break with a .252 average, .750 OPS and 50 RBI.

Rodríguez’s homer was hit 427 feet off Keider Montero. That left his bat at 111.6 mph, while the double checked in at 113.7 mph. Rodríguez now has 13 homers and 16 steals this season.

The 24-year-old superstar transformed a tight 2-1 advantage into a 4-1 lead with a mammoth 440-foot (109.6 mph EV) two-run shot in the fifth inning. That would be his only hit in the ballgame, though he also drew a walk in the ninth inning. The All-Star outfielder is now slashing .244/.301/.392 with 12 long balls, 46 RBI and 15 stolen bases on the season.

Rodríguez was a bit of a surprise inclusion to the game, but the metrics suggest he’s been one of the best outfielders in the American League because of his defense and wheels. The 24-year-old released a statement that said that decision was made to take care of his body and “fully prepare” for the second half of the 2025 season. A replacement should be announced shortly.

That’s a bad night, but it could have been much, much worse. J.P. Crawford drilled Rodríguez in the shin with a foul ball as Rodríguez was in the on-deck circle in the ninth. Rodríguez was checked on by the trainer, but he was able to stay in. He didn’t react at all before the ball hit him, and if the ball had been six feet off the ground, rather than two, it could have been a disaster.

Rodríguez also drove in a run on a fielder’s choice, and was hit by a pitch to make it a four-reach game. It’s worth noting that he was also robbed of a homer by Evan Carter, so a very good fantasy game could have been a great one. The 24-year-old has now driven in 42 runs at the exact halfway point while hitting a decent — but disappointing — .255/.315/.409. The past few seasons suggest he’s about to see those numbers drastically improve over the summer.

Rodríguez had three strikeouts and two sacrifice flies. Baseball-Reference says it’s just the third time that’s happened since 1900; J.T. Snow did it for the Giants in 2001 and the immortal Omir Santos matched the feat in 2009. For Rodríguez, it makes seven RBI in three games. That’s not spectacular, but we’ll take it; he had totaled six RBI over his previous 26 games.

Finally. That was the first homer for Rodríguez in the month of June, and he got all of it off Bailey Ober with an estimated distance of 442 feet and an exit velocity of 112 mph. He also doubled into the left-field gap to score a pair and punctuate the blowout in the ninth. Rodríguez was making hard contact the series before against the Cubs albeit without great results, but we all know what he’s capable of when he’s at his best.
