The Twins already had to be thinking about keeping Connor Prielipp in the rotation over Woods Richardson following Mick Abel’s return, but with Abel having something of a setback, one wonders how much longer they’ll wait to make a move. Woods Richardson is 0-5 with a 6.92 ERA after this. He’s struck out a total of 19 batters in 39 innings, and he’s given up 27 earned runs over 27 2/3 innings in his last six starts. Zebby Matthews had a rough April in Triple-A, but he has pitched well in his last couple of starts, making him an option to step in.

There’s a phrase for outings like this one by Woods-Richardson: he got pieced up. Of the 20 balls the Blue Jays put in play against him, 12 were hard-hit and Kazuma Okamoto took him deep twice. He doesn’t have an out-pitch, high-end velocity, or particularly good command. It’s hard to see the Twins continuing to send him out there every fifth day much longer.

He struck out two and walked three in the 78-pitch effort. Woods Richardson was tagged for a two-run homer by Yandy Díaz in the third, putting Tampa Bay up 4-0 at the time. The right-hander hasn’t shown much ability to miss bats this year, and his role in the rotation could be in jeopardy depending on how quickly Mick Abel (elbow) returns. As it stands, Woods Richardson is lined up to face his former team, the Blue Jays, next time out.

Things looked like they could’ve spun out of control early for Woods-Richardson when Francisco Lindor tattooed a three-run homer into the upper deck in the third inning. Yet, despite putting a runner on in four of five innings, Woods-Richardson stopped the bleeding right there. He still has an unsightly 5.96 ERA and poor 14:9 strikeout to walk ratio over 25 2/3 innings so far this season. He’s lined up to face the Rays in Tampa Bay next time out.

With Mick Abel (elbow) landing on the injured list, Woods Richardson will have his start bumped up a day. As of now, the Twins have no starting pitcher listed for Wednesday, but one of Kendrys Rojas or Connor Prielipp, the Twins’ 2025 Minor League Pitcher of the Year, could be an option.

Not that it did him any good, but Woods Richardson had great velocity today. He had averaged 92.1 mph with his fastball this season, down from 93.2 mph last year, but he was up to 94.2 mph today. He only wound up with four whiffs and a 21-percent CSW, but he was pretty unlucky to give up seven runs. Five came in a third inning that started with an infield single. With the bases loaded and none out, Masataka Yoshida hit a double play ball that second baseman Luke Keaschall bobbled and then threw wildly to first base on for a double error. After running down the ball, Josh Bell compounded the problem by throwing home well too late to get Roman Anthony when he should have easily had Yoshida running to second. Trevor Story followed with a three-run homer. In all, Woods Richardson allowed four hits on balls hit softer than 80 mph. The loss makes him 0-3 with a 6.10 ERA, but his rotation spot should be safe for now, especially with Zebby Matthews struggling in Triple-A. The Twins do have off days Thursday and Monday, so they could push him back from his next scheduled start, which would be next Wednesday against the Mets.

After holding the Blue Jays scoreless through the first three innings, Woods Richardson ran into trouble in the fourth. The righty allowed back-to-back doubles to Vladdy Jr. and Jesús Sánchez to start the inning, and after retiring Kazuma Okamoto on a pop up, surrendered a third double to Davis Schneider, who drove in the Jays’ second run of the inning. Andrés Giménez would follow things up with an RBI single to drive in Schneider to cut the Twins’ lead to 4-3, but it was Brandon Valenzuela, whose first career homer would give the Jays the lead. Richardson would not return in the fifth inning, as Friday marked his shortest and worst outing of the season. He’ll hope for better in his next start on Wednesday at home against the Red Sox.

Woods Richardson got 20 outs for the second time in 53 career starts; he recorded 21 to get through seven against the Guardians on Aug. 10, 2024. Aside from the unusual length, it was a pretty typical Woods Richardson outing. He had four strikeouts and six whiffs on 35 swings, finishing with a 25 percent CSW. He’ll next face his previous organization in Toronto on Friday.

He gave up five hits, walked one and struck out two. Woods Richardson has shown himself over the last two years to be perfectly competent at pitching five innings at a time, but he just hasn’t demonstrated much upside beyond that, and given that the Twins have a mediocre offense and seemingly a well below average bullpen, pitching five solid innings at a time doesn’t figure to produce many wins. He’ll make his next start Sunday against the Rays.

Woods Richardson allowed nine hits in the contest, so this could have gone much worse. The 25-year-old will likely be the fourth starter to open the season for Minnesota and is the definition of “just a streaming option” at this stage of his career.

Woods Richardson gave up only one hit, though it was a 429-foot homer from Otto Kemp. He walked none and dropped his spring ERA to 6.55 in 11 innings. That’s still not great, but his rotation spot figured to be secure coming into the spring and his current 11/1 K/BB is obviously just fine.

He struck out three and walked one, but Woods Richardson has now allowed seven earned runs on 13 hits in five innings in his last two spring starts. The good news is that he registered a 27 percent whiff rate, and the splitter he introduced at the end of last season continued to miss bats. However, Woods Richardson had just a 56 percent strike rate overall and threw a first-pitch strike to just seven of the 17 batters he faced. He likely has a spot in the rotation locked up, but with Mick Abel looking good this spring, Woods Richardson will need to perform better to hold onto his spot.

All of the runs scored in the first, as Woods Richardson was able to work around a one-out double in the second. His fastball averaged 91.8 mph today, down 1.4 mph from his average last season, and he ended up getting just two misses on 20 swings. Still, while this wasn’t nearly his best work, he seems safely penciled into Minnesota’s rotation.

Woods Richardson had never fanned more than eight in a game until striking out 11 Yankees two weeks ago. Now he’s done it again with another six-inning masterpiece. The outings are just the second and third times this year he’s gotten a chance to complete six innings. He ends the year 7-5 with a 4.04 ERA that’s a big improvement over the 4.58 mark prior to the Yankees game. That should make a difference going into what could be a stiff rotation competition next spring.

Both runs came in the first, which featured a Steven Kwan leadoff homer. Woods Richardson left down 2-1 before the Twins came back to win 6-2. He’ll take a 4.27 ERA into his final start against the Phillies.

Woods Richardson put together the most dominant start of his career, generating 16 swinging strikes and finishing with a near-elite 37 percent CSW. The 24-year-old righty limited New York’s formidable lineup to just a pair of hits and three walks over six sublime frames. He and three Twins relievers — Kody Funderburk, Travis Adams and Pierson Ohl combined on a two-hit shutout in this one. He’ll face the Guardians on Sunday to cap off a two-start week.

Woods Richardson has six wins this year from the 10 of his 20 starts in which he’s managed to complete the requisite five innings. He’s recorded a total of six outs beyond the fifth inning. It doesn’t seem workable for the long haul, and barring a real step forward, he ought to be expendable at some point in 2026. However, he’ll finish this season in the rotation and face the Yankees next Monday.

The 24-year-old right-hander piled up seven strikeouts on the evening while issuing three free passes. He served up a solo homer to Andrew Benintendi in the second inning, then the White Sox added another pair of runs on a two-run double by Bryan Ramos in the fifth. Woods Richardson got eight swings and misses 85 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll carry a 4.53 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and a 78/40 K/BB ratio (89 1/3 innings) into Sunday’s showdown against the Royals in Kansas City.

Woods-Richardson gave up three no-doubt shots – two to Davis Schneider and one to Andrés Giménez – in this poor return to the Twins’ rotation. His command was poor, especially on his splitter which hung up in the zone far too often and was responsible for that home run to Giménez. He’s now allowed six long balls in his last six starts and hasn’t completed five innings since July 8th. He isn’t a viable option in any league.

Woods Richardson will make his return to the rotation against the Blue Jays tonight. He allowed three earned runs over 5 1/3 innings in his two rehab starts, and he doesn’t seem like a very good bet for fantasy purposes right now.

The Twins said Woods Richardson would start Wednesday after scratching from his Sunday start, but he obviously wasn’t recovering as hoped. Darren McCaughan was called up in his place and could start Wednesday. Pierson Ohl will also likely be an option then. The Twins also just added Taj Bradley and Mick Abel, but they probably won’t be called up before the middle of the month.

Woods Richardson was scratched earlier this weekend from Sunday’s scheduled start against the Guardians due to a stomach bug. The hope is that he’ll be feeling well enough in a couple days to start Wednesday’s series finale against Detroit.

No word yet on the reason for the decision. Woods Richardson surrendered three runs over 4 2/3 innings on Monday in a no-decision against the Red Sox. It’ll be José Ureña drawing the starting assignment in his place.

Despite allowing four hits in the first four innings, Woods-Richardson kept the Red Sox off the scoreboard until Alex Bregman hit a three-run shot off of him to take the lead in the fifth inning. Woods-Richardson struck out five and walked two on the day while posting a 21 percent whiff rate and 25 percent CSW. He will remain a streamer in most league types, but could be trusted this weekend against a reeling Guardians team.

Woods-Richardson worked around some trouble in the second and third innings before the Dodgers got to him in the fourth. Andy Pages took him deep for a three-run blast before he could record an out, ending his day at 58 pitches with two strikeouts. The 24-year-old right-hander will carry a 4.14 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, and a 64/33 K/BB ratio into a matchup against the Red Sox in Minnesota on Monday.

Woods Richardson gave up six hits, walked one and struck out three. The 24-year-old right-hander has allowed only two runs over his last four starts spanning 19 2/3 innings. Woods Richardson doesn’t offer much fantasy value outside of AL-Only leagues because he doesn’t work deep into games or strike out many batters, but he has a 1.47 ERA over his last six starts. He’ll take a 3.95 ERA and 62/28 K/BB ratio in 73 innings into the All-Star break.

Woods Richardson needed just 61 pitches to get his 15 outs, but the Twins still didn’t want him facing the Cubs lineup a third time through. He wound up allowing two hits, walking three and striking out four. He’s won three straight starts, allowing just one run over 15 innings in the process. He still doesn’t seem like a mixed-league guy, but he would make for a good play against the Pirates on Sunday.

Woods-Richardson struggles to strike hitters out or miss bats in general, but he’s able to sometimes find success sometimes by locating his fastball well on the glove side and letting his slider and curveball play off it. It helps when Woods-Richardson is able to keep that fastball up around 94-95 mph – as he did here – rather than the 92-93 mph range he’s sat in for most of the year. It’s a tenuous profile and one that shouldn’t drum up much interest on the waiver wire. He’s lined up for a two-start week against the Cubs and Pirates before the All-Star break.

Woods Richardson struck out six and allowed just two hits with one walk in one of his best starts of the season. He did allow two doubles, but the runners never advanced past second and he was able to procure nine swings and misses on 82 pitches. Woods Richardson still owns an ugly 4.63 ERA, but he’ll have a friendly matchup on paper when he faces the Marlins on Tuesday.

Two hits, an error, and a sacrifice fly brought two runs in to score in a long first inning for the Brewers. Milwaukee brought home two more runs in the second on three hits and a sac fly before Woods Richardson settled in for four more scoreless frames, ending his day after six with three strikeouts. The 24-year-old right-hander will take a 5.06 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and a 46/21 K/BB ratio across 53 1/3 innings into a start against the Mariners in Minnesota on Thursday.
