Two things of note here. This was the first MLB game to end on an overturned challenge, as ball two to Evan Carter with two outs in the ninth was correctly changed to strike three by catcher Samuel Basallo. The other is that it’s Suárez’s first save in nine years, or five if you want to count the one he had in Japan in 2021. His only previous major league save came with the Giants in 2017.

With Zach Eflin going on the injured list, it will be Suárez who is added to the 40-man roster to take his place in the rotation. Suárez pitched just 11 2/3 MLB innings for the Orioles last season with a 2.31 ERA. He has no minor league options remaining, so if the Orioles decide to move Suárez out of the rotation, they will need to designate him for assignment.

Suárez will fortify Baltimore’s overworked bullpen with Zach Eflin (elbow) heading to the injured list ahead of Wednesday’s series finale against the Rangers. The 36-year-old veteran was in Orioles camp this spring as a non-roster invitee.

Suárez came into the day with a 10.80 ERA in 6 2/3 innings this spring, so he needed this to keep his chances of a roster spot alive. He still seems like something of a long shot to make the Orioles after missing most of last year with arm woes.

Suárez missed most of 2025 with a shoulder strain and then dealt with an elbow issue at the end of the year, making him a question mark going forward. The Orioles non-tendered him last month, but he’ll be back in camp and hopefully ready to compete for a spot, probably in middle relief. He has a 3.59 ERA in 25 starts and 12 relief appearances for the Orioles since returning to the majors in 2024.

Good news for Suárez, who spent most of the season on the IL with a shoulder issue, returned in September and then finished up back on the IL with the elbow problem. He should have a rather normal offseason.

The right-hander is waiting for the inflammation to subside before getting another MRI. Obviously, meeting with Dr. Meister is never a great sign, and there is certainly a chance that Suárez will have to undergo Tommy John surgery. We’ll know more in two weeks.

Suárez is presumably done for the rest of the season after just four appearances since returning from a five-month absence due to shoulder inflammation. The 35-year-old veteran wound up making just five appearances this season for the Orioles.

This one turned into a laugher after Suárez departed, but that’s not his fault. He was making his first start after three relief appearances since coming back from a shoulder issue that cost him five months. He’s allowed two runs in nine innings this month. Suárez isn’t currently slated for additional starts, but there’s always the chance that will change.

Suárez had been on the IL with shoulder inflammation since the fourth day of the season. He’s back now after allowing one run in 10 2/3 innings over four appearances on a rehab assignment with Norfolk. The first two of those saw him being stretched out, but he pitched just 2 2/3 innings in the last two outings, suggesting that he won’t be considered an option as a starter.

Suárez has been out of action since being diagnosed with a Grade 2 right subscapularis strain in April. The 35-year-old would likely work as a multi-inning reliever with Baltimore if/when he makes his return after rosters expand.

The 35-year-old was diagnosed with a Grade 2 right subscapularis strain back in April and has been sidelined ever since. As a result, his rehab process will likely be a lengthy one, and it’s unclear if he will be built up enough to make any starts before the 2025 season ends. However, the Orioles could opt to have him rehab as a reliever to allow him to simply pitch some MLB innings before the end of the season.

The MRI won’t take place until a few weeks, but the Orioles want to make sure that his subscapularis strain has healed before they begin his rehab program. The 35-year-old remains without a timetable for return, but should have one after the imaging takes place.
