The move has been made official by Major League Baseball, which approves all injury-related transactions during the postseason. The decision eliminates Santander from consideration for the World Series, if Toronto manages to advance. The switch-hitting 30-year-old slugger has been dealing with a lingering back issue throughout the playoffs. It’ll be Joey Loperfido taking his place on Toronto’s roster for the remainder of the best-of-seven series.

Santander, who went 0-for-2 with a walk during Wednesday’s Game 3 rout in Seattle, continues to deal with a lingering back issue, according to Blue Jays manager John Schneider. The switch-hitting 30-year-old slugger takes a seat with Addison Barger getting the nod in right field and Isiah Kiner-Falefa drawing into the lineup at second base for the first time in the series. Here’s the full lineup: George Springer (DH), Nathan Lukes (LF), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (1B), Alejandro Kirk (C), Daulton Varsho (CF), Ernie Clement (3B), Barger (RF), Kiner-Falefa (2B) and Andrés Giménez (SS).

Santander was scratched from the lineup for Game 2, but he’s well enough to hit in the middle of the lineup against George Kirby and the Mariners in a must-win contest. Davis Schneider retreats to the bench with Santander back. The full lineup for Toronto: George Springer CF, Nathan Lukes RF, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 1B, Santander RF, Alejandro Kirk C, Dalton Varsho CF, Addison Barger 3B, Ernie Clement 2B, and Andres Gimenez SS.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed Santander was available to pinch-hit during Monday’s lopsided Game 2 loss in Toronto after being scratched from the lineup with lower back tightness. The switch-hitting veteran slugger figures to be ready to get back in the lineup for Game 3 on Wednesday evening out in Seattle.

Davis Schneider, who went 2-for-6 with a double and two walks in the series against the Yankees, is replacing him in left field. Santander is likely day-to-day.

The Jays had Nathan Lukes in left field and Santander in right on Wednesday, but those two have swapped spots tonight. Other than that, the one change in the lineup is that Santander has been dropped one spot behind Ernie Clement. The full lineup: George Springer (DH), Lukes (LF), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (1B), Addison Barger (3B), Alejandro Kirk (C), Daulton Varsho (CF), Clement (2B), Anthony Santander (LF) and Andrés Giménez (SS).

George Springer is DHing for the fourth straight game, Santander had a big misplay on a Cody Bellinger double last night, but he did go 2-for-4 with a double and an intentional walk. The Jays have made a couple of changes today with the Yankees throwing a right-hander for the first time since Saturday, but just the expected ones; they’re playing Nathan Lukes over Davis Schneider in left and Addison Barger over Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the infield.

Santander sat against fellow lefty Max Fried on Sunday, but he’s getting the nod over Myles Straw tonight. That’s the only change for the Jays, who are sticking with Isiah Kiner-Falefa over Addison Barger and David Schneider over Nathan Lukes against the southpaw.

Toronto will roll with Nathan Lukes and Davis Schneider in the outfield corners with veteran George Springer occupying the DH spot in a pivotal showdown against the division-rival Rays. It’s unclear how much of a role Santander, who has gone 1-for-8 with four strikeouts in three games since returning from the injured list earlier this week, will have in the postseason since Bo Bichette (knee) is likely to be limited to DH once he returns. The Blue Jays enter the final weekend of the regular season in a tie with the Yankees for the AL East division crown.

Santander didn’t start Tuesday in his return from the injured list and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts as a DH against Garrett Crochet last night. He might still need to show something this week to in order claim a spot on the postseason roster. His status will also hinge on Bo Bichette’s health.

It will be the first time that Santander starts a game for Toronto since May 29. The 30-year-old missed four months with a shoulder injury, but the Blue Jays will turn him loose against Garrett Crochet and the Boston bullpen.

Well, that escalated quickly. Santander is back in the fold following a nearly four-month absence recovering from a shoulder injury just a few hours after Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters they weren’t sure whether he would return this week. His postseason role is likely to be determined by whether Bo Bichette is limited to DH coming off a knee injury.

Santander figures to rejoin Toronto at some point during the final week of the regular season, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll have a definite role because of his defensive limitations and George Springer occupying the DH role. The 30-year-old power-hitter spent last week continuing his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Buffalo and should be on the club’s postseason roster, even if it’s merely as a pinch-hitting specialist.

Santander will get a couple additional rehab contests under his belt this week as he continues to progress towards a late-season return to Toronto’s lineup. There’s a chance he’s back for Friday’s series opener against the Royals. The 30-year-old has been out since late May recovering from a left shoulder subluxation.

Those were Santander’s first at-bats in a game since May 29, when he was shut down due to a shoulder injury sustained earlier in the month. He figures to play in several games for Buffalo before the Jays activate him. Joey Loperfido figures to be sent down when that happens.

The issue cropped up while Santander was ramping up his hitting progression and figures to prevent him from kicking off a minor league rehab assignment this week. The 30-year-old slugger is attempting to make it back to Toronto before the regular season wraps up. This latest setback doesn’t help that endeavor.

The big challenge here for the switch-hitting Santander is that he needs a couple rehab contests to get back up to speed from both sides of the plate. Barring any setbacks, he should make it back to Toronto by mid-September. The 30-year-old marquee free agent acquisition has been on the shelf since late May recovering from a left shoulder subluxation.

The 30-year-old slugger continues to work his way back from a left shoulder subluxation and is now making tangible strides toward a potential return to the Blue Jays’ lineup. Before landing on the injured list in late May he was slashing a woeful .179/.273/.304 with six homers and 18 RBI in his first 209 plate appearances with the team.

Santander has been on the shelf since late May recovering from a left shoulder subluxation and appears to still be several weeks away from making it back to Toronto’s lineup. The 30-year-old power-hitting outfielder is not worth rostering in shallow mixed leagues at this stage of the season, but it sounds like there’s a chance he makes it back at some point in September.

Not good. Santander remains without a firm return timetable and there aren’t a ton of weeks left in the regular season for him to make it back to Toronto. The 30-year-old slugger hit the injured list back in late May with a left shoulder subluxation and has yet to resume hitting. At this point, it’s starting to look like he might not make it back until some point in September, which means fantasy managers in shallow mixed leagues have little incentive to keep him stashed.

Santander reported shoulder issues in late May and was placed on the injured list on May 30th. He then had a PRP injection the first week of June, so the fact that it’s not the middle of July and he’s still not swinging a bat doesn’t make us feel good. It’s great that he believes that will happen soon, but, at this point, we’re not counting on much from him this season.

The 30-year-old slugger is still in the process of recovering from a left shoulder subluxation. Nothing has changed in his prognosis, this was done as a procedural move to free up a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for Lazaro Estrada on Friday.

The Jays had been calling the injury shoulder inflammation, though to be fair, that was the main issue that caused him to go on the IL weeks after he was hurt crashing into a wall in a game against the Angels. Santander is nearly ready to resume swinging now, potentially putting him in line to return right after the All-Star break.

The 30-year-old outfielder has been shelved since the end of May due to inflammation in his left shoulder. He has been limited to just light throwing drills since that time, so it sounds like once he is ready to resume hitting it’s going to take him a while to build back up and he’ll probably require a minor league rehab assignment as well.

Santander will be shut down from baseball activities for at least the next week after receiving the injection to address inflammation in his left shoulder. The 30-year-old big-ticket free agent acquisition for Toronto hit the shelf last week and is likely to be sidelined until mid-to-late June.

Santander will be out for at least a week-plus while recovering. The 30-year-old has been replaced on the active roster by Alan Roden. Santander’s first season with the Blue Jays has seen him limited by injuries, but also limited success as seen in a .577 OPS.

While he suggested this in a positive sense because he believes it’s helping him to make more contact, the Blue Jays didn’t sign him to be a contact hitter, and that’s certainly not why fantasy managers drafted him. He has hit at least 28 home runs in each of the last three seasons and is coming off a 44-home-run breakout. In 2025, his HR/FB rate is the lowest it’s been since 2018. If he’s not healthy enough to get back to that peak power production, he’s going to lose a lot of fantasy value.

Both hits were singles, but one was a nice liner and the other was a 105-mph grounder. It’s the first time this season that he’s reached base safely four times in a game, and it raised his OBP from .270 to .286. Santander didn’t start the previous two games because of continued issues with his hip.

Santander gave the Jays a bit of breathing room as he swatted a 369-foot (110.4 mph EV) two-run shot off of Dylan Cease in the fifth inning that extended the Jays’ lead to 3-0. The 30-year-old slugger also whiffed twice in the ballgame, finishing the night 1-for-3. On the season, he’s slashing a miserable .185/.265/.327 with just six homers and 18 RBI.
