He’ll be shut down from throwing completely over the next two weeks before being re-evaluated in early September. It sounds like he’s going to be out for a while though with a return before the regular season concludes no guarantee.

Sousa had been the next man up as the primary left-hander at the back end of the Astros’ bullpen in the wake of Josh Hader’s shoulder injury, but now he’ll join his fellow southpaw on the injured list instead. No word yet on how long the Astros expect Sousa to be shelved for.

Sousa gave up three hits with no walks, and he struck out one. The run didn’t really matter in terms of Houston winning the game or the 30-year-old picking up his third save, but it did push his ERA up to 1.95; a number that you’ll still happily sign up for. Sousa isn’t likely to see more save chances, but it’s not out of the question he’d get more chances if something were to happen to Josh Hader.

Josh Hader had tossed a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts to send the game to extras. Sousa got the save chance after Houston took a two-run lead in the top of the tenth, putting Hader in line for the win. Sousa worked around a walk, stranding two runners with two strikeouts to convert his first save.
