Sproat, 25, debuted for the Mets late last season and finished with a 4.79 ERA in four starts. He had a 4.24 ERA and a 113/53 K/BB in 121 innings for Triple-A Syracuse. A 6-foot-3 right-hander with a 94-98 mph fastball, he projects as something like a No. 4 starter with his plus slider and above average groundball rate. Minus Peralta, the Brewers currently would seem to have two rotation openings, with Logan Henderson and Chad Patrick probably the favorites based on 2025 results. However, Sproat should also be in the mix with Robert Gasser, and Aaron Ashby and Angel Zerpa are candidates to slide over the pen.

Sproat cruised through the first four innings throwing just 47 pitches and the Marlins had only one hit to that point. Then, they jumped all over him in the fifth with three quick runs on four pitches. An inherited runner he left on first came around to score as well. It wasn’t a great inning for him, but his defense didn’t help out either as Pete Alonso made two misplays at first and Ronny Mauricio failed to cover third when they had a runner picked off. Yet, Sproat only forced four swings-and-misses and the Marlins’ bats came ready to hit once their lineup flipped over for the third time. He’ll close his first cup of coffee in the majors with a 4.79 ERA over 20 2/3 innings.

All of the runs came in the third, an inning that started with a walk, a tapper down the third base line that went for a single and another walk. Sproat got a double-play ball afterwards, but he went on to allow back-to-back doubles to CJ Abrams and Josh Bell and a triple to Daylen Lile. Bell’s liner to center should have been caught and was originally ruled an error after bouncing out of the glove of a running José Siri, but it was later changed to hit. Sproat will likely remain in the rotation and face the Cubs next week.

Sproat gave the Mets six shutout innings against the Rangers on Saturday, scattering six hits and no walks while striking out three batters in only his second career start after giving up three runs over six innings his first time out. The 24-year-old right-hander will look to keep it going in a matchup against the Nationals in New York next Saturday.

Sproat gave up three hits, walked four and struck out seven. The 24-year-old right-hander took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and posted a quality start in his MLB debut. Given his proclivity for strikeouts, Sproat is worth rostering all formats at this point. He’s lined up to face the Rangers at home next weekend.
