Cubs INF prospect Cole Mathis went 2-for-4 with two walks, a home run, and five RBI in Arizona Fall League action on Tuesday.

The 54th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, Mathis tore his ACL at the end of the 2024 season and only played in 29 games in High-A this season. However, the 22-year-old has looked good in Arizona, going 12-for-33 (.364) with two home runs, 14 RBI, and a 7/6/ K/BB ratio in 10 games. He was a two-way player in college, but will play either corner infield spot as he rises through the Cubs’ minor league system.

Cole Sands slammed the door on the Rangers on Tuesday evening, working a perfect frame to protect a three-run advantage.

Sands picked up his third save of the season for his efforts. He was incredibly efficient in this one, needing just nine pitches (six strikes) to get Jake Burger on a foul out to the catcher, Adolis Garcia on a bouncer to second and Josh Jung on a fly ball to left field. For the season, he now holds a 4.63 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 63/19 K/BB ratio over 70 innings on the season.

Cole Sands allowed four runs, was charged with a blown save and got the win against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Sands allowed four runs in the top of the ninth inning as he blew the save, but he was awarded his fourth win of the season when the Twins came back in the bottom of the inning. Despite the poor outing personally for Sands, he’s likely still first in line for saves in Minnesota with Justin Topa going on the injured list.

Cole Sands gave up two runs while getting just one out in the seventh to take a blown save Sunday against the Royals.

Vinnie Pasquantino hit a two-run homer. Sands looked like he might be the favorite for saves in the Minnesota pen after the Twins traded all of their better arms, but he’s yet to be held back for the ninth, and he’s now given up four runs in four innings this month. Justin Topa, who threw a scoreless ninth in a tie game today, might be the better bet at this point.

Cole Sands allowed one run in two innings and got a no-decision against the Nationals on Sunday.

Sands managed to give the Twins two innings as the opener for the bullpen game. The 28-year-old right-hander allowed a solo home run to CJ Abrams and struck out two batters. Later in the game, Travis Adams allowed five runs and took the loss.

Cole Sands will start on Saturday against the Rays.

It’s going to be a bullpen game for Minnesota on Saturday afternoon at Target Field with Sands drawing the starting assignment. The 27-year-old is unlikely to work more than an inning or two before turning things over to the rest of the Twins’ relief stable.
