Like clockwork, Stanton is red-hot just in time for the postseason. He smacked his first home run to put his Yankees on top in the first inning and then demolished a 451 foot no-doubter two frames later. On a per at-bat basis, he’s been one of the best hitters in baseball season with a .926 OPS and 23 long balls in just 242 AB. That’s better than a 50-homer pace for the 35-year-old slugger who still clearly has a lot left in the tank.

Stanton did his damage in the third inning, crushing a 3-2 slider from Sawyer Gipson-Long for a 429-foot (108.9 mph EV) solo shot that increased the Yankees’ advantage to 5-1. That would be Stanton’s only hit in five at-bats on the evening while striking out three times. For the season, the 35-year-old slugger is hitting an impactful .271/.345/.596 with 20 homers and 49 RBI in only 203 plate appearances. It’s the 14th time in his career — and the fifth consecutive season — in which Stanton has clubbed 20 or more long balls.

There’s turning back the clock, and then there’s whatever Stanton is doing this season. He has 19 home runs in just 59 games with a .987 OPS. His solo shot in this game was the only run Kevin Gausman gave up and Stanton hit it at an obscene 112.7 mph. This is an elite power hitter that looks like he hasn’t missed a beat and suddenly started seven of the Yankees’ last eight games after being stuck in a part-time role for most of this season.

This will be the first time Stanton has played left field since September 14, 2023, in Boston. While the Astros’ left field is shorter because of the Crawford Boxes, that can also make it harder to navigate and judge balls off the wall. The Yankees need to keep playing Stanton in the outfield because Aaron Judge is “getting close” to playing the field, but the team still doesn’t have a set date for when that will happen.

No day game after a night game for Stanton, who is being treated like a catcher since being forced to play the outfield by Aaron Judge’s injury. Jasson Domínguez is playing left field today, with Cody Bellinger sliding over to right.

It’s Stanton’s eighth career five-RBI game and second in which he’s collected five while driving in all of his team’s runs; the other occasion was on July 5, 2016 against the Mets, back when he was still with the Marlins. Stanton now has 46 RBI in 51 games this season, which is easily his best rate since his final year in Miami in 2017.

Stanton led off the second inning with a single off of Dustin May and then rode home on a two-run shot by Jazz Chisholm Jr. The 35-year-old slugger then led off the fourth inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jose Caballero. It’s been a minute since Stanton was asked to patrol right field on a regular basis so the Yankees are understandably approaching his workload cautiously. However, they desperately need his bat in the lineup at this juncture as they’ve dropped three straight games to fall behind the Red Sox in the AL East standings.

Stanton’s fourth-inning homer — his 16th round-tripper of the season — came against Boston ace Garrett Crochet represented New York’s lone tally in a one-sided contest that got completely out of hand by the late stages.

Stanton remains stapled to New York’s bench for the sixth time in the last eight games with Aaron Judge limited to DH due to an elbow issue. It’ll be Cody Bellinger and Jasson Domínguez in the outfield corners with Trent Grisham patrolling center field. It’s a frustrating situation for fantasy managers, but it’s likely the correct approach here by the Yankees not to push Stanton too much from a physical standpoint by having him play right field on an everyday basis.

As a team, the Yankees crushed nine home runs in the ballgame, with Stanton, Cody Bellinger and Jose Caballero each leaving the yard twice while Aaron Judge, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Ben Rice got into the fun as well. Stanton hit the third of three consecutive home runs off of Shane Baz in the opening inning, with his 386-foot (104.4 mph EV) increasing their early lead to 3-0. He then tagged Ian Seymour for a 376-foot (103.4 mph EV) three-run shot in the fourth inning that made it a 9-2 ballgame. On the season, the 35-year-old slugger is hitting an impressive .306/.386/.619 with 14 homers and 38 RBI in only 166 plate appearances.

Someone seems to be enjoying playing the outfield. Stanton had the three hardest-hit balls of the game tonight in the form of a 114.7-mph double, the 113.9-mph homer and a 110.8-mph single. Stanton’s second homer in two days with the 441st of his career, moving him out of a tie with Jason Giambi and leaving him all alone in 44th place on the all-time list.

Stanton had exactly one hit in each of his previous nine starts, so he ruined that streak tonight. He’s up to 31 RBI in just 151 plate appearances this season, which is a nice improvement over what he’s done in recent years. He averaged one RBI every 6.3 plate appearances while posting a .744 OPS from 2022-24. He’s at one RBI every 4.9 plate appearances right now, and he has a .910 OPS.

Stanton takes a seat after making his first appearance in the outfield earlier this weekend since the late stages of the 2023 season. The 35-year-old’s playing time is going to be slashed over the final seven weeks with Aaron Judge limited to DH as he recovers from a flexor strain in his right elbow. It’ll be Cody Bellinger in right field on Sunday afternoon with Trent Grisham patrolling center field and Jasson Domínguez in the opposite corner.

Stanton returns to New York’s lineup after remaining stapled to the bench for three consecutive contests with Aaron Judge limited to DH in his return from an elbow injury. The 35-year-old’s stratospheric over-the-fence pop remains firmly intact, but it’s uncertain how he’ll hold up from a physical standpoint over the final seven-plus weeks now that he’s back in the outfield. The other wrinkle in Saturday’s lineup is Ben Rice drawing another start at catcher with Paul Goldschmidt at first base.

It will be Stanton’s first game in the outfield since the 2023 season. He has been relegated to the bench since Monday as Aaron Judge has been serving as the club’s designated hitter since his return from the injured list. We’ll see if he’s passable enough out there to see regular playing time.

Stanton will sit again with Aaron Judge as the designated hitter. The 35-year-old should be available off the bench, but it doesn’t appear the Yankees are comfortable playing Stanton in the outfield.

The Yankees had reportedly been discussing trying Stanton out in right field now that Aaron Judge (elbow) is back, but unable to play the outfield. So far, Judge has been back for two games, and Stanton has sat both. Given Stanton’s history in the outfield and how he looks when he’s running the bases, we would assume it’s a long shot that he gets any meaningful time in the outfield. That makes it hard to roster him until Judge is healthy enough to play the field, and even then, the Yankees figure to give Judge more time at DH throughout the final two months.

Stanton started the scoring of what would be a 13-12 game with a three-run home run in the fourth inning. The 35-year-old continues to DH, though the plan is for him to play right field when Aaron Judge returns from the injured next week. All nine of Stanton’s home runs this year have come in his last 21 games. He’s hitting .267 with an .862 OPS and 26 RBI this year.

Stanton launched a towering 432-foot homer off Rays starter Ryan Pepiot in the opening frame, marking his eighth round-tripper in his last 21 games since the start of July. The 34-year-old slugger’s prodigious power clearly remains intact, but he’s likely to face additional physical strain once he transitions to right field with Aaron Judge (elbow) expected to occupy DH duties upon his return next week from the injured list.

With Stanton getting the night off, Yankees manager Aaron Boone will give Ben Rice a look against Rays righty Joe Boyle. Stanton has recently begun outfield work as the team prepares for the possibility that Aaron Judge (elbow) may need to DH exclusively once activated from the injured list.

Stanton’s seventh-inning dinger against Phillies reliever Daniel Robert slashed New York’s deficit to six runs at the time. He’s gone deep seven times in 16 games since the start of July. He capped off the multi-hit effort with a ninth-inning single. The big question heading into next week is the health of Aaron Judge, who underwent imaging on Saturday for a right elbow issue. It’s unclear whether Stanton would be able to play right field if Judge is limited to DH duty for an extended period.

Stanton takes a seat after starting six of the previous seven games for New York at DH. The 35-year-old veteran slugger is hitting .292 (14-for-48) with five homers and 14 RBI in 15 games since the start of July. It’ll be Aaron Judge getting a break from the field on Wednesday evening with Cody Bellinger heading out to right field with Trent Grisham and Jasson Domínguez rounding out the rest of the outfield.
