The 28-year-old righty came over from the Pirates in a small trade back in early July and has tossed three scoreless frames in a pair of appearances for the Braves. He’ll likely head back to Triple-A Gwinnett at the conclusion of the nightcap contest at Truist Park.

The 24-year-old was a third-round pick by the Mariners just last season and projects as a future big league reliever with a high-90s fastball and a tight, gyro slider. He likely won’t pich MLB innings until next season.

Stratton was acquired from the Pirates at the beginning of the month and has posted a 1.69 ERA with a 6/2 K/BB ratio in 5 1/3 innings at Triple-A since coming to Atlanta. He will serve as bullpen depth for at least this week.

The Pirates needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for the addition of Génesis Cabrera on Thursday and unfortunately for Stratton he drew the short straw this time around. The 28-year-old hurler made three appearances at the big league level this season, posting a cringe-inducing 23.63 ERA and 4.50 WHIP over 2 2/3 innings of work. It seems likely that he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Bucs.
