Sborz underwent right shoulder debridement surgery in the off-season and didn’t appear in a minor league game until mid-July. Ultimately, he made 12 appearances between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock, compiling a 5.25 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and a 12/8 K/BB ratio over 12 innings. Bochy noted to reporters that Sborz has still had trouble regaining his velocity and with time running out in the season it was an easy decision to shut him down. While the Rangers are hopeful that he’ll be recovered and ready to go for spring training, that’s no certainty given the disappointing end to his season.

McMahon was a near lock to be flipped before the trade deadline so the Rockies found a deal that was to their liking, adding a pair of starting pitching prospects in return. Grosz, 22, was an 11th-round selection from the 2023 draft class. He has spent the entire season thus far at High-A Hudson Valley where he registered a 4.14 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a 94/35 K/BB ratio across 87 frames in his 16 appearances (15 starts).
