Soto has missed the majority of April while recovering from his strained right calf, and the Mets have clearly missed the slugger over the past few weeks. The 27-year-old may get some days off to stay fresh and avoid an aggravation, but fantasy managers need to be prepared to have Soto in their lineup starting Wednesday.

Buried in that positive news is the somewhat-ominous “the Mets will want to do a supplemental MRI to ensure he’s OK before activating him.” Soto’s progression to return from his calf injury has appeared normal from the outside. Assuming things check out, he’ll be back at some point next week.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Soto won’t return until at least the club’s next homestand, which begins next Tuesday against the Brewers. The 27-year-old fantasy superstar is working his way back from a calf strain that put him on the shelf back on April 3. It’s possible he’ll skip a minor league rehab assignment altogether and jump right back into New York’s lineup next week.

Soto has been participating in baseball activities, including batting practice in an indoor cage, but he had not begun a running progression until Tuesday. Soto strained his calf on April 3rd and was expected to only be out for three weeks. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza hinted that the team would get “creative” with Soto’s rehab, which might mean that they simulate at-bats for him and don’t send him out on a rehab assignment. We’ll keep you posted, but Soto could return before the month is out.

Mendoza added that Soto has yet to start a running progression, but they’re still expecting him to be ready to return before the end of the month from a calf strain that put him on the injured list last week. The 27-year-old generational talent was hitting .355 (11-for-31) with one homer and five RBI through eight games prior to the injury. There should be a definitive return date once he resumes baseball activities and is ready for a rehab assignment.

Brito was called up Tuesday by the Guardians, and he made an immediate impact. The 24-year-old laced a double for his first MLB hit, and he added a single for good measure. The 24-year-old will likely handle second base with Gabriel Arias on the injured list due to a hamstring issue, and he’s worth monitoring in AL-only formats. It’s hard to see mixed-league relevance for now, however.

Brito was called up earlier in the morning with Gabriel Arias (hamstring) landing on the IL, and he will be right into the starting lineup. He flashed 20-home run power in the minors, but that doesn’t feel sustainable at the MLB level, so he can be avoided in fantasy leagues for now.

Brito was 11-for-35 (.314) in Triple-A this season with five doubles, five runs scored, and four RBI. Injuries limited him to just 31 minor league games last year, but he hit .256/.365/.443 with 21 home runs and 13 steals in 144 games at Triple-A in 2024. His quality of contact numbers are not great, so we wouldn’t expect much power in the big leagues, and Brito remains more of an AL-only type of fantasy asset. It will be his MLB debut when he gets into a game.

Soto said over the weekend that he believed he could avoid the injured list and called himself “day-to-day.” Unfortunately, the injury was more severe than that. The team has said that a typical return for this type of injury is between two and three weeks. The Mets would like Brett Baty to take most of Soto’s innings in left field, but Baty jammed his left thumb on Saturday night and didn’t play on Sunday. Baty was allegedly able to pinch hit, so he should be good to go, which would also open up first base at-bats for Mark Vientos, who has been swinging a hot bat lately.

It’s the second straight start that Soto has missed after suffering a mild right calf strain during Friday’s contest. It’s encouraging that he has yet to be placed on the injured list, but that could change if he’s not ready to go for Tuesday’s series opener against the Diamondbacks.

Soto is not in the lineup for Saturday’s bout against the Giants with the strain. The 27-year-old left Friday’s game with tightness, and the good news is it doesn’t appear that the slugger will need a trip to the injured list. He still likely will miss a couple of games at least, and Jared Young will get the start in left field in Soto’s absence.

Not great. With MJ Melendez off to a bad start, Nick Morabito would seem to be the likely choice to come up from Triple-A Syracuse if Soto requires an IL stint. Soto left Friday’s game in the first inning after pulling up while running from first to third on a single.

Soto singled in his lone at-bat and then came up a little lame running from first to third before being replaced by Tyrone Taylor in left field. He’s probably day-to-day, but he could DH a couple of times if it remains an issue this weekend.

As the Mets offense has had a quiet start to the season, Soto just keeps producing. This was his first home run of the campaign and it was a strange shot with a 42° launch angle and barely wedged itself inside the right field foul pole. Francisco Lindor was picked off first base just before the blast, so this should have been a two-homer. Alas, Soto is inevitable.

Soto also drew a pair of walks, because of course he did, he’s Juan Soto. The 27-year-old picked up his RBI with a free pass in the fifth to extend the Mets’ lead to 4-1. He’s hitting .353 with a .450 on-base percentage and four RBI to open the campaign.

Brito, 24, had a rough time at the plate during Cactus League play, hitting just .154 (4-for-26) with a homer and six RBI. Stephan was always facing an uphill battle in a crowded bullpen mix for the Guardians, but he should get an opportunity at some point during the 2026 campaign.

The win means the D.R. will avoid a matchup against Japan and face Korea in the quarterfinals. Ketel Marte, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Fernando Tatis Jr. also homered tonight, and Austin Wells reaches three times. The game got interesting in the ninth, when Abner Uribe, working with a 7-3 lead, walked all three batters he faced, and Elvis Alvarado committed an ugly error on a comebacker after taking over on the mound. However, Salvador Perez grounded into a double play to end the game.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Junior Caminero and Austin Wells also homered for the Dominican Republic. All of the homers came with one man on base, except for Caminero’s, which came with two. The short game saw Luis Severino, Albert Abreu and Abner Uribe combine to strike out 11 over seven innings. The Dominican Republic improved to 2-0 in pool play, while The Netherlands fell to 1-2.

The D.R. seemed to have this one wrapped up, but Oscar De La Cruz and Jimmy Cordero combined to give up three runs to minor leaguers in the ninth, resulting in the tie. Soto has homered against the Tigers on back-to-back days. The Dominican Republic also got two hits from Junior Caminero today. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reached twice.

Soto finished 2-for-4 with three RBI in the lopsided contest. While the United States and Japan enter the World Baseball Classic as the consensus favorites, overlooking the Dominican Republic would be a mistake. Their lineup isn’t just formidable — it’s the kind of relentless, star-laden construction that can tilt a short tournament in a matter of innings. In an event where momentum compounds quickly, they have more than enough firepower to be the last team standing when the hardware is handed out. Soto put the metaphorical exclamation point on a five-run fourth inning, which also included homers by Manny Machado and Junior Caminero, by taking lefty reliever Brant Hurter deep to right-center field for a gargantuan round-tripper. The Dominican Republic kicks off the international tournament on Friday in Miami with a pool play matchup against Nicaragua.

With Fernando Tatis Jr. in right, Soto is already set to play left field for the Dominican Republic in the WBC, and the Mets believe it makes sense to simply keep him there. Soto came up as a left fielder and it’s been his primary position in three of his eight big-league seasons, so it’s not much of a change for him. For the Mets, it just means that Carson Benge and Brett Baty are now battling for the starting job in right, rather than left. Maybe it helps Benge a bit, since he has the stronger arm of the two.

Soto’s homer was part of a six-run fourth inning that gave the Mets an 8-4 lead. He has 10 of those in his last 20 games. It also sure looks like he wants to go 40/40; he’s up to 34 steals to go along with 42 homers. 23 of his steals have come in his 56 games during the second half.

A slow April by Soto had some thinking his best days, power-wise, could have been behind him. Well, this long ball tied the career-best he set last season with 10 games to go. He missed another one later in this game by about two inches – literally – as it sliced just before the left field foul pole off Padres flamethrower Mason Miller. That could have tied the game, but Soto had to settle for just the one home run.

Soto went deep off Hoby Milner in the seventh inning and knocked a base hit in the ninth in New York’s loss to the Rangers on Saturday. The home run brings Soto to 40 on the year for his second straight 40-homer campaign. The 26-year-old outfielder is hitting .264/.398/.529 with 113 runs scored, 97 RBI, and 32 steals across 655 plate appearances.

The Mets continue to lose games, but Soto’s doing everything he can to pull them from the doldrums. They’d scored just two runs before a futile ninth inning rally when they were already behind by more than a touchdown and Soto scored each of them. His home run was 39th and stolen base his 31st as he’s somehow become the best power-speed threat in the entire league in his first season as a Met.

Soto’s home run was his 38th this year. The 26-year-old outfielder has six home runs and 14 RBI over his last eight games. Soto is enjoying one of the best fantasy campaigns of his career thanks to his career-high 28 stolen bases. He’s hitting .262 with a .928 OPS and 93 RBI this year.

Soto, who tied a career-high with six RBI, also walked twice and scored two runs. It was his first grand slam of the season and also his first triple, the latter of which pushed the Mets ahead in the sixth. Soto is on an a rampage at the plate in recent days, hitting .467 (7-for-15) with four homers, 11 RBI, three steals, and seven runs scored. His OPS sits at .915 for the year, his highest point since early July.

After he was hit by a pitch in the first inning, Soto drew a walk, stole second, and scored a run in the second inning. He then took Edward Cabrera deep for a solo homer in the fourth before going yard for a second time with a two-run blast in the sixth. Soto walked in the eighth to reach for a fifth time. The 26-year-old outfielder is hitting .254/.395/.508 with 35 homers, 102 runs scored, 84 RBI, and 24 steals across 596 plate appearances.

Things started out great for Soto and the Mets in this one. They jumped all over Braves’ starter Carlos Carrasco for six runs through two innings, capitalized by Soto’s 407 foot laser beam over the center field fence. Then, the wheels fell off when they allowed 11 unanswered runs and were shut out over the final seven innings of this game. Soto had multiple at-bats with men on base during that stretch, and struck out each time. He’s still having an excellent season with 29 homers and an .878 OPS, but this Mets team is in freefall.

Soto has now hit solo homers in two straight games as the Mets’ lineup (and possibly season) completely unravels. Despite his noted struggles with runners in scoring position, he’s still having an excellent season with 27 home runs, 65 RBI, and a shocking 17 stolen bases through 114 games.
