This was a lackluster effort by the Phillies’ offense against Tyler Mahle and what’s been a poor Giants bullpen so far this season. They were shutout and couldn’t muster up a single extra-base hit. Schwarber was on base often as he has been early this season, he’s just not getting many actual hits. He’s now drawn 11 walks to go along with three home runs and two doubles, but just two singles.

Schwarber swatted a solo homer off Zack Littell to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead, and Schwarber his second homer of the season. The power has been present, but the 33-year-old has hit just .158 over the first five games of the season. Don’t expect Schwarber to be among the average leaders in 2026, but that number is sure to increase in the coming weeks, if not days.

As Passan notes, it’s incredibly rare for a 33-year-old player who is a DH-only to get so much money. Especially one with a career track record of high strikeout totals and poor batting average; however, he plays every day and leads the National League in home runs and RBI. While a return to Philadelphia feels likely, Passan believes that plenty of teams - Like Texas, San Diego, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, and Cincinnati - might be willing to pay top dollar for Schwarber.

Schwarber followed up his historic four-home run performance with a much more tame outing here. Yet, he scored both of the Phillies’ runs on their way to a grind-it-out victory over the Braves where they were out-hit 12 to six. He came home with the winning run after a seven-pitch battle against reliever Dylan Lee that ended with him muscling a single to right field, advancing from first to third on a single, and coming home on a sacrifice fly. That’s called range, folks.
