Straw went into Saturday’s contest with eight career home runs over 2223 plate appearances. He did the unlikely against the Rangers, going deep not once, but twice for his first career multi-homer game while driving in five runs in the blowout win. He added two more hits on the day for a four-hit outing. The 30-year-old outfielder has been limited to a short-side platoon against left-handed pitching, slashing .260/.303/.363 with four homers, 39 runs scored, 27 RBI, and nine steals across 248 plate appearances.

Straw tallied three hits in the game, and that’s the first time he’s done that since April. The 30-year-old is not exactly known for his power, but he was able to connect on a two-run blast off José Berríos for just his second homer of the 2025 campaign. Straw can still safely be avoided in fantasy leagues, but he probably doesn’t care about our feelings, if we’re being honest.

Straw is back in center field and batting ninth following a three-game absence after suffering a right ankle sprain during Wednesday’s showdown against the Diamondbacks. The 30-year-old is a non-factor for fantasy purposes at this stage of his career, but he’s a decent bench option for the Blue Jays.

The bad news is Straw will be out for another game after being removed Tuesday with his ankle injury. The good news is that Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters that Straw’s injury isn’t likely to necessitate a trip to the injured list. He’ll take a seat with Jonatan Clase (knee) back in the lineup in center and Alan Roden playing left field.

The Blue Jays will play short-handed with Straw and Jonatan Clase (knee) also out of the lineup. Straw’s ankle sprain will keep him out of action after leaving Tuesday’s game, and George Springer will get a start in the outfield in his absence.

Straw will continue to undergo further evaluation and testing after suffering a sprained ankle during a scary-looking collision with the center-field wall. He’s presumably day-to-day for now, but could wind up requiring a trip to the injured list depending on the severity of the sprain.

Straw had just entered the contest as a defensive replacement after Jonatan Clase was hit by a pitch in the right knee. The 30-year-old was attempting to track down Josh Naylor’s fifth-inning fly ball when he slammed into the center-field wall at full speed. He was replaced by rookie Alan Roden in center field. He’ll presumably undergo evaluation for a possible concussion. There should be an update on his status following the contest.

It’s just the third three-RBI game of his career; he had one with the Astros in 2021 and one with the Guardians in 2022. That Straw is batting .286/.318/.371 in 114 plate appearances for the Blue Jays is pretty remarkable. Before spending almost all of last year in the minors, he hit .229/.296/.284 for the Guardians between 2022 and ’23. He came in at .240/.321/.329 in 123 Triple-A games last season.

Straw is off to a good start for the Blue Jays, slashing .326/.370/.465 so far in the season. However, Daulton Varsho (shoulder) is set to return from the IL on Tuesday, which will force Straw to a bench role in Toronto.

Straw has started three straight games in center field prior to Wednesday and has gone 4-for-11 with a home run over that stretch. If he continues to produce at the plate, he’s likely to keep starting in center field until Daulton Varsho (shoulder) is back.
