Suzuki has been bumped up to the cleanup spot to face Brewers ace Freddy Peralta, with Ian Happ moved down a couple spots, after going 3-for-11 with one homer and a pair of doubles in Chicago’s Wild Card Series victory over San Diego. The 31-year-old corner outfielder finished the season with an impressive power surge and is clearly building some momentum heading into fantasy drafts next spring. Here’s the full lineup: Michael Busch (1B), Nico Hoerner (2B), Kyle Tucker (DH), Suzuki (RF), Happ (LF), Carson Kelly (C), Pete Crow-Armstrong (CF), Dansby Swanson (SS) and Matt Shaw (3B).

Suzuki delivered a game-tying homer against Padres starter Nick Pivetta to lead off the fifth inning, immediately followed by a go-ahead shot from Carson Kelly. It was his lone hit in three at-bats, but it provided a massive momentum shift for Chicago’s lifeless offense at the time. The 31-year-old slugger’s late-season power surge — five homers in his final four regular-season games — has clearly carried into October.

The 31-year-old slugger crushed a 379-foot (99.1 mph EV) solo shot off of John King in the fifth inning to give the Cubs an early 1-0 lead. Rather than giving him a breather in the season finale, Cubs skipper Craig Counsell kept Suzuki in the lineup and he responded with his fifth home run in his past four games and looks primed for the postseason. He finishes a terrific 2025 campaign slashing .245/.326/.478 with 32 homers, 103 RBI and five stolen bases in 651 plate appearances.

Suzuki has three homers in two days after going 38 straight games without one. It’s his second MLB grand slam. Suzuki was 2-for-16 with the bases loaded in his first two seasons with the Cubs, but he’s 12-for-22 with 27 RBI in those situations since the beginning of 2024. The 30-homer season is his first in MLB, but he had two in Japan, topping out at 38 in 2021.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the 31-year-old slugger. Suzuki has been in a funk at the plate lately, slashing just .216/.355/.257 with zero homers, five RBI and a 20/16 K/BB ratio over 93 plate appearances in his last 21 ballgames. Perhaps a day off to clear his head will do some good. Willi Castro will start in his place in right field and will bat eighth for the Cubs against Zack Littell and the Reds on Saturday evening in Cincinnati.

Suzuki played the role of spoiler in the seventh inning on Thursday, smacking a two-out double that broke up Hunter Greene’s no-hit bid. That would be his squad’s only hit in the ballgame. On the season, the 31-year-old slugger is slashing a healthy .244/.324/.459 with 27 homers, 91 RBI and five stolen bases across his 618 plate appearances.

Suzuki found himself back in Chicago’s lineup for the first time in nearly one week due to an undisclosed illness. He should be good to go for the final week and a half of the regular season.

Suzuki has been out of action for nearly one week at this juncture as he deals with an undisclosed illness. Cubs manager Craig Counsell revealed that he traveled with the club to Pittsburgh, so fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be rookie slugger Moisés Ballesteros continuing to occupy the DH spot with versatile utility specialist Willi Castro patrolling right field in his absence. Hopefully there will be some clarity on his status at some point soon.

There’s little incentive to rush Suzuki back with rookie Moisés Ballesteros swinging a hot bat at the moment. There should be some additional clarity on the 31-year-old’s status before the weekend wraps up. He’s presumably day-to-day heading into Monday’s series opener against the Pirates.

Suzuki opened the scoring in the ballgame with a two-run double off of Tanner Gordon in the top half of the third inning. That would wind up being the extent of the Cubs’ offense in the ballgame. It was also Suzuki’s lone hit. Suzuki will get a day off — at least to begin Thursday’s contest — with Owen Caissie lined up in right field, and Kyle Tucker operating as the designated hitter. It’s been a bit of a rough go for Suzuki in August, as he’s hitting just .207 with a .630 OPS over 77 at-bats.

Suzuki was an unstoppable force in this one. He started the Cubs’ comeback with a run-scoring double in the third and gave them the lead with a single the following inning. Suzuki hit a two-run shot off Ryan Gusto that gave the Cubs an 11-2 lead. He’s tripled three times in 2025, while the homer brings that total up to 22 at just-over the halfway point of the season. Suzuki doesn’t get nearly enough plaudits for how solid of a player he is, but the Cubs are well aware.

Suzuki turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 advantage with one mighty swing of the bat in the fifth inning, crushing a 1-0 sinker from Chad Patrick for a 413-foot (102.8 mph EV) three-run shot. He struck out in each of his three other at-bats on the night, but that’s fine as he still was able to play the role of hero. Here’s an odd one: the Cubs scored six runs today without ever taking an at-bat with a man in scoring position. Besides the homers from Suzuki, Michael Busch, Pete Crow-Armstrong and Matt Shaw, they had just three other players reach. One scored on Busch’s blast, and the other two were stranded at first. Suzuki’s homers were projected at 376 and 395 feet, and he also had a 108-mph lineout that went 350 feet. It’s his sixth career two-homer game. Three of those have come this year.

Except for maybe Fenway, Will Benson would have had zero issue catching Suzuki’s fly in any other ballpark. However, with no foul territory in Wrigley, he was unwilling to challenge the wall, and the ball dropped just fair, giving Suzuki a big hit on a fly with a .010 xBA. It was Suzuki’s 52nd RBI of the year, moving him into a tie with Rafael Devers for most in the majors.
