Roberts added that he believes last season was an outlier since Scott never felt right from a physical standpoint all year. The 31-year-old southpaw’s sudden decline after establishing himself as one of the premier late-inning relievers in baseball over the past couple seasons certainly feels like it was injury-related. We’re anticipating a bounce-back campaign, assuming he enters spring training with a clean bill of health, but his role remains a bit unclear, especially since the Dodgers have been linked to several prominent free agent closers. Stay tuned.

Scott was removed from the team’s roster during the NLDS after undergoing a lower body abscess procedure. The Dodgers were hopeful that he would be ready to return for the start of the World Series, but he isn’t quite there yet. Vesia is still away from the team while navigating a deeply personal family matter. Ben Casparius was removed from the roster along with Vesia while Edgardo Henriquez and Will Klein were added. Michael Conforto remains off the roster as well. The Dodgers will kick off the Fall Classic in Toronto on Friday evening against Trey Yesavage and the Blue Jays.

Scott, who was away from the team last night, underwent a lower body abscess procedure, according to manager Dave Roberts. The roster move means that he’ll be ineligible to return prior to the World Series. Wrobleski will join the pen in his place. He had a 4.32 ERA and a 76/17 K/BB in 66 2/3 innings over two starts and 22 relief appearances this season.

Scott threw 21 pitches on Tuesday and 20 pitches on Thursday, so it was a little surprising that he was the choice to close out Seattle. Still, he succeeded in protecting a one-run lead for his fourth save in 14 appearances since coming off the injured list last month. If the Dodgers have another save chance on Saturday, it’ll probably go to Alex Vesia or Jack Dreyer.

Scott took the mound in the bottom of the ninth to close things out with a one-run lead. He hit the leadoff man and issued a walk to put the first two runners on. A sacrifice bunt would move the runners over before a sacrifice fly brought the game-tying run home. Geraldo Perdomo would then walk it off with a base hit. Scott is now 22-for-32 in save chances after suffering his tenth blown save.

Scott made it somewhat interesting because of course he did, but he was able to get a pair of clutch strikeouts to keep the Giants from pulling off the comeback win. It also gives Scott 22 saves and lowers his ERA to a still-disappointing 4.64 in 2025.

Oof. Scott walked a pair of batters and also allowed a single, but the big blow — big blow doesn’t nearly do it enough credit — was a grand slam by Patrick Bailey to walk-off the Dodgers in the first of the three-game series. Scott has had some decent moments, but his ERA is now above 5, and while he likely will get more save chances, one can’t help but wonder how the Dodgers will go about attacking the ninth inning come October.

Scott allowed a hit, but he was able to escape without giving up a run while throwing 7-of-9 pitches for strikes. The 31-year-old has saved 21 games in his first campaign with the Dodgers, which helps compensate for — but doesn’t erase — a 4.47 ERA over his 50 1/3 innings across 53 appearances.

Scott was summoned in the ninth inning to close out the game against the Reds with a three-run lead. He worked around a base hit, inducing a ground ball double play to end the game with his 20th save and first since coming off the injured list.

As Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts had mentioned on Thursday, Scott returns to the team’s bullpen corps on Friday with Kirby Yates (back) expected to join him on Saturday. Before landing on the injured list in the middle of July with inflammation in his elbow, Scott had posted a 4.14 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a 50/11 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings while securing 19 saves for the Dodgers. He should jump right back into the driver’s seat for saves at the back end of the bullpen.

The club has been rolling with a committee approach in the ninth inning while Scott has been sidelined, so expect that he’ll jump right into that mix upon his return. The 31-year-old southpaw had compiled a 4.14 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a 50/11 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings while securing 19 saves before landing on the injured list shortly after the All-Star break.

After four weeks off due to shoulder inflammation, Scott showed maybe his best stuff of the season last night, averaging 97.7 mph with his fastball and 90.9 mph with his slider. That’s up from season norms of 96.3 and 88.2 mph, respectively. He struck out two and walked one in his inning. The Dodgers won’t have him spend much time in the minors while he’s throwing like this.

Scott will be joined by Kirby Yates (back) on that assignment. Scott has been out since near the end of July because of inflammation in his left elbow, and he’ll likely make a couple of appearances before rejoining the Dodgers in the latter part of August. Once back, there’s a good chance he’ll receive the bulk of the save opportunities.

Scott’s rehab should progress pretty quickly unless he experiences a setback, and he could rejoin the late-game mix in L.A. in a couple of weeks.

Smith was a 15th round selection of the Padres from the 2024 draft class. He has impressed in his first professional season, compiling a 3.46 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and a 34/14 K/BB ratio over 26 innings between the Padres’ Rookie League affiliate and Single-A Lake Elsinore. He’s likely a couple of years away from helping out at the big league level.

It’s a notable development with the trade deadline looming. Scott underwent an MRI last week that didn’t reveal any structural damage in his left elbow after hitting the injured list with inflammation. The 31-year-old lefty closer figures to need at least a couple weeks to ramp up again, but should make it back to Los Angeles at some point in August. It’ll be a mix of Blake Treinen, Alex Vesia and Ben Casparius handling the closing duties in his absence.

That’s great news for Scott. He’ll rest up for a few days, but if all goes well, he might be able to return not long after his 15 days are up. Scott was placed on the IL on Tuesday after leaving Monday’s game with forearm soreness.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said they’re still waiting for Dr. Neal ElAttrache to evaluate Scott’s MRI before determining next steps. He also added that he’s a lot more optimistic after Scott felt much better when he woke up on Tuesday morning. There should be a definitive update on his potential return timeline at some point in the coming days. The 31-year-old stopper’s absence throws the Dodgers’ bullpen into flux, with veteran Kirby Yates the most likely fill-in thanks to his prior closing experience.

Manager Dave Roberts said it’s “more than likely” that Scott will go on the injured list. Kirby Yates and Alex Vesia could both be worth using in mixed leagues for now. Blake Treinen could also enter the mix for saves once he comes off the injured list.

Scott came on with a 2-0 lead to protect and made things interesting by allowing a one-out single to Matt Chapman that brought the tying run to the plate. Matos then entered as a pinch-hitter and crushed an 0-1 slider for his game-tying two-run blast. Scott rebounded to get out of the rest of the inning unscathed, but the damage had been done. He finishes the first half with a 4.09 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 49/8 K/BB ratio over 44 innings while converting 19 saves in 25 chances.

Scott entered a 2-1 game to retire Christian Yelich to end the eighth and then stayed on for the ninth, which saw the Brewers string together three singles to tie the game. Kirby Yates later took the loss after allowing the automatic runner to score in the 10th. Scott continues to frustrate Dodgers fan and fantasy leaguers alike, but his 47/7 K/BB in 42 innings is strong and ERA estimators suggest he’s pretty unlucky to be at 3.86 right now. He should keep getting the ball in save situations.

Christian Walker and Yainer Diaz took him deep. That Scott has as many homers allowed as walks allowed (seven) rates as one of the most bizarre stats of 2025. He allowed three homers and walked 36 last year. Over the course of his career, he has 7.2 times as many walks as homers allowed. Clearly, throwing more pitches in the strike zone has made him more hittable, and it doesn’t seem like the tradeoff has been worth it. Still, he had pitching well of late coming into the day; he’d allowed two runs — one earned — over 13 1/3 innings in his previous 13 appearances.

Scott really had his work cut out for him in this one. He loaded the bases with just one out after a sharp single by Maikel Garcia, walk to Vinnie Pasquantino, and bloop by Salvador Perez. Luckily for Scott, that bloop didn’t necessarily look like a hit off the bat, so Garcia could only advance to third base in this one run game. Then, Jac Caglianone rolled over a hanging slider to ground into a game-ending double play and let Scott wriggle out of this jam. While it looked like the returns of Kirby Yates and Michael Kopech could eat into Scott’s save opportunities, he got the Dodgers’ last five save opportunities and converted each.

The 30-year-old southpaw walked Tyler Freeman to open the ninth inning, bringing the tying run to the plate, but he battled back to get Jordan Beck on a swinging third strike and then got Tommy Edman to line into a game-ending double play. Scott has now converted 17 of his first 22 save chances on the season while registering a 3.55 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 41/5 K/BB ratio across his 38 innings of work.

Scott looked every bit the dominant closer that the Dodgers expected him to be in this one, striking out Willy Adames, Heliot Ramos and Jerar Encarnacion in succession — each on swinging third strikes. He needed just 13 pitches (10 strikes) to get the job done in this one. On the season, the 30-year-old southpaw holds a 3.86 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a 38/4 K/BB ratio across 32 2/3 innings while converting 13 of his first 18 save chances.
