Taylor was a late addition to the Angels’ lineup after Mike Trout was scratched due to a skin infection. He made the most of his opportunity. The versatile 35-year-old led off the seventh inning with a double and scored on an RBI double by Oswald Peraza. Taylor also started the ninth inning with a single and scored the game’s final run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bryce Teodosio. With his two-hit night, Taylor is now hitting .211/.268/.342 with one homer, six RBI and one stolen base in 82 plate appearances on the season.

The versatile 35-year-old returns to action for Monday’s series finale against the Astros in Houston after missing six weeks with a fractured left hand. He’ll see action all over the diamond for the Halos but his days of mixed league viability from a fantasy perspective are in the rearview mirror.

It’s the second time this season that the veteran has suffered a fractured left hand. The injury occurred on a diving catch against the Mariners on Friday. The outfielder is hoping that the injury isn’t season-ending, but will assuredly cost him the majority of the rest of the campaign. Scott Kingery is up to take Taylor’s place on the roster.

The HBP in the ninth was a 96-mph fastball from Edwin Diaz that hit him square in the helmet. Fortunately, he was able to remain in afterwards. Taylor started and finished at third base today, though he also played some right field in between.

Taylor rejoins the Angels six weeks after suffering a broken hand on a HBP. He was hitting .200/.294/.400 in 10 games for the club before getting hurt. He should see most of his at-bats against lefties, starting in either the outfield or in Yoán Moncada’s place at third base.

Taylor was hit on the hand by a pitch last night, though he stayed in afterwards and there was no indication after the game that it led to an injury. A fractured hand is typically at least a four- to six-week injury, though it could be less for Taylor if it’s a hairline fracture. This isn’t the way the Angels were intending to make room for the newly acquired LaMonte Wade Jr. on the roster, but it works out that way all the same. Matthew Lugo was probably in line for a demotion, but he gets to stick around now.

Taylor will make his Angels debut in center field during Monday night’s series opener against the Yankees with struggling youngster Kyren Paris demoted to Triple-A. The 34-year-old veteran utility specialist was cut loose earlier this month by the Dodgers after spending a decade with the organization. He’ll provide the Angels with a multi-position bench option capable of filling in across the diamond as they attempt to snap a playoff drought that spans back to 2014.

It’s a vote of confidence in rookie Hyeseong Kim that Taylor, the longest-tenured position player left in the Dodgers clubhouse, has been jettisoned in the final year of his four-year, $60 million contract. The 34-year-old veteran’s defensive versatility and postseason experience should attract some interest on the open market. The two-time World Series champion leaves Los Angeles after spending a decade with the organization dating back to 2016.
