The 31-year-old hurler just joined the Jays’ bullpen as a September call-up, but he’ll head back to Triple-A after working a scoreless inning in his lone appearance. Braydon Fisher was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move and will take his place in the Jays’ bullpen.

The Jays are also adding waiver claim Isian Kiner-Falefa to the roster today, so Tate is their only official callup. Tate made five appearances for the Jays in April and May, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings. He had a 2.06 ERA and a 34/19 K/BB in 35 innings as a reliever for Buffalo.

The Blue Jays needed to free up a spot on their 40-man roster for Michael Stefanic on Friday and unfortunately Tate drew the short straw this time around. He has flashed serious potential in the past, so it’s possible that another bullpen-needy team is willing to take a chance on him on waivers.

Tate was the fourth-overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft and eventually became a quality high-leverage reliever for the Orioles before injuries derailed him a couple seasons ago. The 30-year-old righty has looked outstanding this season at Triple-A Buffalo, posting a microscopic 1.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 7/1 K/BB ratio across six innings (five appearances).
