It’s not a surprise, as Tucker is one of — if not the — top overall option available on the open market this winter. The Dodgers consider their outfield to be an area of need, at least relative to their completely stacked roster, so the two sides linking up would seem to make a great deal of sense. If the 28-year-old outfielder is serious about winning, joining a team that has been to two straight World Series while winning at least one of them, seems like a tremendous opportunity.

“We’ll see,” said Tucker when asked about potentially staying in Chicago following Saturday’s season-ending loss to the Brewers in the NLDS. The impending free agent wrapped up his Cubs debut slashing .266/.377/.464 with 91 runs scored, 22 homers, 73 RBI and 25 stolen bases over 136 games. He played through a hairline fracture in his right hand after being diagnosed with the injury back in June, which played a significant role in his second-half slump at the plate. It makes sense for the 28-year-old corner outfielder to test the open market since he’ll be one of the offseason’s most coveted free agents despite a bit of a checkered injury history the past two seasons. He’ll be an early-round selection in all fantasy drafts next spring regardless of where he ends up.

Tucker’s first big fly of the postseason came off Brewers reliever Robert Gasser and gave Chicago a commanding five-run advantage in the late stages of the contest. The 28-year-old fantasy force has notched back-to-back multi-hit efforts after reaching base safely in four of his five plate appearances in this one.

Just as the Padres did, the Cubs’ skipper feels like he has used his best possible lineup in the first two games of the series, so despite a tough loss on Wednesday they’ll roll with the same starting nine in Thursday’s elimination game. Here’s what it will look like against Yu Darvish and the Padres: Michael Busch (1B), Nico Hoerner (2B), Ian Happ (LF), Kyle Tucker (DH), Seiya Suzuki (RF), Carson Kelly (C), Pete Crow-Armstrong (CF), Dansby Swanson (SS), Matt Shaw (3B).

Tucker is back at DH for the second straight contest after going 1-for-4 with a walk and a pair of runs scored on Friday in his return to Chicago’s lineup following a three-week absence due to a calf issue. It’s been a frustrating, injury-marred campaign for the impending free agent, but he remains one of the most productive power/speed combo fantasy contributors, when healthy. The omnipresent durability concerns aren’t going to vanish, but he’ll remain a borderline first-round pick in all drafts next spring, regardless of where he lands this offseason. The Cubs enter their penultimate regular-season contest having already clinched a postseason berth. They need one additional win or a Padres loss to lock up the top NL Wild Card spot.

Tucker, returning from a strained calf, is DHing and batting cleanup Friday in his first appearance since Sept. 2. Carlos Santana was sent down to make room for him. Moisés Ballesteros, who has been doing much of the DHing of late, heads back to the bench today.

The official transaction, which will probably see Kevin Alcántara get sent down, should come in a bit. Tucker has missed more than three weeks with a strained calf.

“I think we’re trending toward Kyle playing this weekend,” Counsell said. The 28-year-old outfielder has been out of action since September 6 because of his calf strain, and while his injury updates have — once again — but frustrating, it does sound like his left-handed bat will be because for Chicago before the start of the postseason.

Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but a team is unclear about when Tucker will be able to return to the field as he manages an injury. The Athletic’s Patrick Mooney reports that Tucker “continued agility work on the bases before Tuesday’s” game against the Mets. After the game, Tucker said, “There’s probably a few more boxes that I got to check off before everyone’s comfortable with me going out there. Myself, the coaching staff, training staff and everyone, we just got to work through that the next couple days and try to get back out there as soon as possible.” That makes it seem as though any possible return during the regular season is unlikely, and there could even be a chance that Tucker isn’t ready on Monday, which would be Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Round.

Tucker headed to Tampa last week to seek additional treatment for his calf. After multiple sessions of additional physical therapy, he will travel to Chicago on Monday and then be reevaluated before Tuesday’s game at Wrigley Field. Cubs manager Craig Counsell “is essentially ruling Tucker out of that night’s lineup,” but Tucker could conceivably return at the end of this week if he’s able to begin running.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said that Tucker’s recovery has “plateaued,” so he is going, with members of the Cubs medical staff, to try and find additional treatment options. That’s never a great sign, and while the Cubs outwardly have expressed optimism that Tucker will rejoin the team next week, it’s hard to have confidence that we’ll see him back on the field for any meaningful action this fantasy season.

Tucker has resumed hitting and fielding, but the outfielder won’t begin a running program until the weekend. The 28-year-old should be back before the end of the regular season and help the Cubs in their presumed playoff push, as well.

Finally. There was some optimism that Tucker would make it back to Chicago’s lineup early this week based on comments from Cubs manager Craig Counsell over the weekend, but he simply didn’t make enough progress to avoid a trip to the injured list. The 28-year-old fantasy stalwart figures to make it back when first eligible to return, but that’s hardly a lock considering how glacial his rehabilitation progress has been since suffering the injury earlier this month.

There was some optimism that Tucker would make it back to Chicago’s lineup early this week based on comments from Cubs manager Craig Counsell over the weekend. The 28-year-old fantasy stalwart remains on the bench as he continues to battle a lingering left calf issue. It’s a perplexing situation for fantasy managers, but there’s been no indication the Cubs are considering sending him to the injured list.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said over the weekend that Tucker is “starting to approach availability” after showing progress in pregame work. The 28-year-old has been battling a lingering left calf issue for the past week, but he appears on track to rejoin Chicago’s lineup at some point this week. It’s a frustrating situation for fantasy managers, but at least Tucker seems to be nearing a return.

Tucker remains out for the fourth consecutive contest due to a lingering left calf issue. Meanwhile, Crow-Armstrong takes a seat following an early exit from Saturday’s game with a right knee contusion. There should be a definitive update regarding the status of both power/speed fantasy standouts heading into Monday’s series opener against Atlanta.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters prior to Friday’s series opener that they were hoping to get Tucker back in the lineup at some point this weekend. The 28-year-old fantasy star is dealing with left calf tightness. Top prospect Owen Caissie has joined the club’s taxi squad in the event that Tucker winds up requiring a trip to the injured list. There should be a final decision on his status before the weekend wraps up.

As expected, Tucker is going to sit out Wednesday’s series finale for some extra rest prior to Friday’s road tilt against the Nationals. The 28-year-old fantasy superstar made a precautionary exit from Tuesday’s contest with left calf tightness. Seiya Suzuki is heading out to right field with Carlos Santana taking over at DH in his place. He’ll be re-evaluated later this week to determine whether he’ll require a trip to the injured list.

Tucker was replaced in right field by Willi Castro in the seventh inning after going 2-for-3 with a three-run homer. The 28-year-old fantasy star took Atlanta starter Joey Wentz deep for his 22nd round-tripper of the season. It sounds like a precautionary exit, but he’ll presumably undergo further evaluation and testing prior to Wednesday’s series finale.

Tucker broke out with two home runs against the Angels on Saturday. Angels pitching mostly stayed away from Tucker after his RBI single in the third inning as he was issued two walks. He’s hitting .262 with an .839 OPS and 69 RBI this year.

Tucker’s homers were projected at 399 and 394 feet. Both came off guys who ought to have been in Triple-A, but Tucker is far from the first to advantage of such a situation this year. It’s his ninth career game with two homers and fifth with five RBI.

Tucker took Angels veteran lefty Tyler Anderson deep for his lone hit in four at-bats. It was an extremely encouraging sign to see the 28-year-old fantasy star drive the ball with authority after being mired in a prolonged offensive tailspin for the better part of the last two months attempting to play through a hairline fracture in his right hand. The hope for the Cubs, and fantasy managers, is that he’s fully healthy again and was able to clean up his swing mechanics during his recent mental break.

It’s going to take some time for Tucker to get back on track after playing through a hairline fracture in his right hand adversely impacted his swing mechanics and led to a prolonged slump at the dish. The 28-year-old fantasy superstar is reportedly healthy at this point after suffering the injury back in early June, which means there’s some reason for optimism he’ll revert to form at some point soon.

What’s the rush? It was revealed last night that Tucker has been dealing with a hairline fracture in his hand since June, and the Cubs won all three games with him out of the lineup, including a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday. Top propsect Owen Caissie, who went 3-for-8 with a homer and four RBI over those three games, is on the bench during Thursday’s series finale at Wrigley Field. The encouraging news is that the Cubs believe Tucker is fully recovered from the injury and the time off was spent attempting to fix his swing mechanics, which were impacted by playing through the lingering issue.

Rogers adds that Tucker suffered the injury while sliding into second base on June 1. Initial X-rays came back negative, but subsequent imaging revealed a slight fracture. This certainly helps explain Tucker’s prolonged struggles since the start of July as playing through the lingering issue began to impact his swing mechanics and led to an offensive tailspin. The 28-year-old impending free agent sat out his third consecutive game on Wednesday in an effort to reset mentally and hopefully get him back on track heading into the final five weeks. Cubs manager Craig Counsell confirmed the report during Wednesday’s postgame media availability and added that Tucker is completely healed at this point.

As expected, Tucker will sit out both games of Tuesday’s twin bill as the Cubs attempt to give him an extended mental break. The 28-year-old fantasy superstar has been mored in an extended second-half slump, batting .182 (16-for-88) with one homer and three steals in 26 games since the All-Star break. His extensive track record of elite production suggests he’ll turn things around soon. He went through a similar slump a couple years ago during one of Houston’s postseason runs before getting back on track.
