Thomas will report to Triple-A Sugar Land as organizational depth for Houston after getting into three games with the Mariners last year. The 26-year-old has hit .260/.313/.328 with two homers and six steals in 31 games at the Triple-A level this season.

Thomas was exceptional this spring with a 1.319 OPS over 19 games, but he was never going to make the Opening Day roster barring an injury or something unforeseeable. The 25-year-old will be the first outfielder up if needed.

Thomas, 25, is back with Tacoma with Leodys Taveras officially on the active roster after being claimed off waivers. Thomas could get another chance if the Mariners need extra outfield depth, but it seems unlikely to be soon.
