Tawa started a five-run rally in the second inning with a leadoff single then came around to score on a two-run knock by Ketel Marte. He then tagged Orion Kerkering for a 412-foot (109.2 mph EV) solo shot in the seventh inning that increased the Diamondbacks’ advantage to 8-0. With his two-hit afternoon, the 26-year-old is now hitting .213/.276/.372 with seven long balls and 17 RBI in 205 plate appearances with the Diamondbacks this season.

Many would have loved to see Jordan Lawlar up as Ketel Marte’s replacement earlier this month, but Tawa got the call and has since collected five homers in 19 games. He’s batting just .190, but Statcast thinks he’s been really unlucky there, and he does have nine walks through 69 plate appearances. In spite of his success, he still figures to head back to the minors when Marte is activated.

Tawa also drew a free pass. The 26-year-old has shown off his pop since being recalled from Reno to replace Ketel Marte, and he’s now gone deep four times with a .639 slugging percentage over 13 games and 36 at-bats. If Tawa keeps this up — to a degree, of course, he’s not going to slug .639 all year — the Diamondbacks may need to find a way to get his bat in the lineup.

Tawa added a run for the Diamondbacks in the fifth inning with a solo homer off Zack Littell. It was his third home run of the season while adding two stolen bases over 36 plate appearances as he continues to fill in a second base for the injured Ketel Marte.

Tawa homered in Wednesday night’s game, so it makes sense that the team will keep him in the lineup. The 26-year-old rookie has gone 4-for-18 in his first six games with one home run and five RBI. He remains off fantasy radars with Ketel Marte (hamstring) nearing a return and Jordan Lawlar inching closer to a call-up.
