Varsho led off the second inning with a double off of Max Fried and rode home on Ernie Clement’s two-run blast. He then smacked an RBI double off of Fried in the third inning that extended the Jays’ advantage to 4-0 before scoring on an RBI single by Clement. The 29-year-old slugger then crushed a 407-foot (106.6 mph EV) two-run shot off of Will Warren in the fourth that made it 11-0. He tacked on a 346-foot (95.1 mph EV) solo shot off of Warren in the sixth that made it 13-2. The 23 runs that the Blue Jays scored set a new MLB record for the most runs scored by any team through their first two games of the postseason.

The Jays entered the sixth inning embattled in a scoreless tie, but they got something going as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reached on an error, Addison Barger drew a walk and then Anthony Santander was plunked to load the bases. That’s when Varsho strolled to the dish and crushed an 0-2 fastball from Justin Wilson for a 371-foot (103.2 mph EV) grand slam that gave the Jays a commanding 4-0 lead. He also singled in the contest, finishing the game 2-for-4. On the season, the 29-year-old slugger is slashing .237/.286/.559 with 20 homers and 55 RBI. He’ll be etched in Jays’ lore forever though if that blast helps them to secure a division title and the top seed in the American League.

Varsho finally broke through against Royals’ southpaw Noah Cameron as he ambushed a first-pitch cutter for a 437-foot (106.2 mph EV) solo shot that pulled the Jays to within a run at 2-1. That would be as close as they would get. For the season, the 29-year-old slugger is now hitting .236/.288/.568 with 19 homers and 51 RBI in only 243 plate appearances.

Varsho gave the Blue Jays the lead in the fourth inning with a two-run homer off Anthony Molina. He’d get to Molina again in the sixth for his second two-run blast, knocking Molina from the game. Varsho will make his return to the lineup after missing two months with his hamstring strain. His defensive aptitude will keep him in the lineup everyday, and he’s not bereft of offensive upside. There’s some volatility here, but it’s late enough in the fantasy season to take chances on players like Varsho.

It sounds like Toronto is going to give Varsho a couple additional rehab contests to get back up to speed before bringing him back later this week following the trade deadline. The 29-year-old center fielder has been on the shelf since late May working his way back from a hamstring strain.

The Jays want to get Varsho somewhere between three-to-five innings in the outfield on Friday night as they continue to ease him back into game action. He’s expected to remain at Dunedin through the weekend before moving his rehab assignment to Triple-A Buffalo next week. It remains to be seen just how many games he’ll require before he’s ready to rejoin the Jays.

Varsho had been expected to start on Monday, and there have been no indications as to why it got pushed back a couple of days, but he did finally see live game action on Thursday — albeit as the designated hitter. There he went 0-for-3 with a couple of groundouts. He’s likely to remain on a rehab assignment through the weekend at a minimum before potentially being cleared to rejoin the Jays at some point during the following week.

No word yet on why Varsho did not appear in the Florida Complex League game on Monday, along with other rehabbing players such as Alek Manoah, Easton Lucas, and Joe Mantiply. Perhaps he’ll get back onto the field at some point this week, which would still put him on track for a late-July return to the big league lineup.

The 29-year-old outfielder is expected to need a week’s worth of games before he’s ready to rejoin the Blue Jays, which means that he would miss the first series coming out of the All-Star break. If he looks sharp through Thursday though, don’t be surprised if the Jays opt to bring him back right away. He has been sidelined since the end of May due to a left hamstring strain.

It wound up being a brief shutdown for Varsho after experiencing some renewed hamstring soreness while running the bases over the weekend. The 28-year-old outfielder underwent a precautionary MRI earlier this week that didn’t reveal any structural damage. He should be ready to start a minor league rehab assignment at some point in the coming days.

Over the weekend, Varsho ran the bases without any pain, which was a big step for him. He’s been on the IL since June 1 and might need a week of rehab games before returning to Toronto at the beginning of July.

He has yet to be cleared to begin running, but it’s an encouraging sign that he’s already doing baseball activity again. The Blue Jays are hopeful that he won’t require much longer than a minimum stint on the injured list, but it will all depend on how quickly he can get through his running progression.

Varsho hits the injured list after suffering the ailment during Saturday’s contest against the Athletics at the Rogers Centre. No word yet on the severity, but fantasy managers should anticipate a multi-week absence, even if it’s a relatively mild strain. His absence should lead to increased playing time for rookie Alan Roden, who is the most interesting beneficiary for fantasy purposes.

Varsho was clearly in pain while moving from second to third and was unable to continue. There’s a very good chance he’ll miss at least Sunday’s game, but his status going forward will largely be determined by the results of testing and potentially imaging.

Varsho is selling out for power this year, and it’s working out so far, as he’s homered eight times in 20 games since coming off the IL. He’s sporting a fascinating .218/.238/.603 line with a career-high 31 percent strikeout rate. He was a big flyball hitter the last couple of years, too, but he didn’t have the exit velocity to make it work. Right now, he has a 45 percent hard-hit rate, up from 33 percent last year.
