There simply isn’t a spot for Vivas within New York’s infield mix following the acquisition of veteran third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Rockies. The 24-year-old rookie has batted .161 (9-for-56) with one homer and five RBI in 29 games this season at the big-league level.

Vivas has been summoned to join New York’s active roster in a bench role with DJ LeMahieu being jettisoned a couple days after losing his starting job at second base. The 24-year-old infielder got into 22 games earlier this season in the big leagues, batting .156 (7-for-45) with one homer and four RBI during that span. He’s unlikely to garner enough playing time to make an impact for fantasy purposes.

Pablo Reyes survives Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s return. Vivas has played much more than Reyes, but he was hitting .156/.255/.267 in 53 plate appearances and had lost time to DJ LeMahieu lately. He’ll return to starting regularly in Triple-A.

Vivas has earned a shot at the highest level after seven seasons in the minor leagues dating back to 2018. The 24-year-old infielder, who walked more than he struck out this season at the Triple-A level prior to Friday’s promotion, doesn’t offer a ton of power/speed potential. However, he makes enough contact to be interesting in deeper mixed leagues, especially in on-base formats.

Vivas was in the majors for two days last months, but he’s yet to make his debut. That should change this time around. The 24-year-old was hitting .319/.426/.436 with just eight strikeouts in 116 plate appearances in Triple-A, and while he’s unlikely to have any fantasy value, it’d be worth seeing what he can do over the likes of Oswald Peraza and Pablo Reyes.

Vivas was called up earlier this week, but didn’t end up getting into a game for the Yankees. The 24-year-old infielder will head back to the minors with Trent Grisham back from paternity leave for Friday’s series opener against the Blue Jays.

Trent Grisham landed on the paternity list this morning, and Vivas will come up to take his place. It’s an interesting swap since Vivas is strictly an infielder and Grisham is the Yankees’ best defensive outfielder, but Vivas was always likely just going to be a bench player for the next three games anyway. The 24-year-old is off to a great start at Triple-A, slashing .342/.432/.493 in 20 games with two home runs, four steals, and a 4:10 K:BB ratio. He could get a shot to push for the Yankees’ third base job at some point this season.
