This fits with the Mets’ stated goal this offseason to improve their team defense. Vientos has been a below-average defender for much of his professional career, but he also took a step back offensively this year, hitting .233/.289/.413 with 17 home runs and 61 RBI in 121 games. He did make more contact, lowering his strikeout rate below 25 percent, but he was essentially a league-average player for the Mets. With Brett Baty outplaying Vientos at third base and Jorge Polanco now in town, there may not be room for Vientos, so the Mets could deal him to acquire an impact starting pitcher.

There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong physically with the 25-year-old slugger, it’s just a routine night off. Francisco Alvarez will slide into the designated hitter spot in the Mets’ lineup while Luis Torrens will start behind the dish and bat ninth against Marlins’ right-hander Sandy Alcantara.

Vientos was called out by the first base ump on a borderline check swing call to end the sixth and then was tossed by the home plate ump for slamming his bat into the ground, even though he held on to the bat and didn’t toss it. It’s not the kind of thing that typically gets one ejected. Vientos was serving as a DH today, so the Mets didn’t have to immediately replace him.

Vientos will get a breather after scuffling over the last handful of games for the Mets. The 25-year-old will take a seat with Starling Marte hitting fifth as the designated hitter and Brett Baty the starting third baseman.

Vientos hit a 412-foot homer off David Robertson. That ball left his bat at 110 mph, and he also had a strong 103-mph lineout in the eighth. Vientos is batting .277/.329/.582 with 11 homers in 39 games during the second half.

Vientos officially has his swagger back. He hit his long ball an impressive 427 feet to the opposite field – the fifth furthest opposite field homer by any player this season. Despite a horrific first half where he lost most of his playing time, he’s now up to 16 homers on the season with a .739 OPS. If he stays as hot as he’s been over the past month, he may wind up getting close to matching his preseason projections.

Vientos’ only hit of the day left the yard as he took Edward Cabrera deep for a three-run blast in the third inning. The 25-year-old slugger is up to 15 homers and 53 RBI while hitting .246/.293/.439 across 375 plate appearances.

Does Vientos have his swagger back? With a clutch, two-out, run-scoring single in the fifth inning and two-run homer to break this game open in the seventh it sure feels like he’s back to being the trustworthy run producer we saw last season. He has six home runs to go along with a 1.035 OPS over his last 15 games and is undoubtedly one of the hottest hitters in the league at the moment.

The homers were both projected at 414 feet. He now has four during a little six-game hitting streak that’s raised his OPS from .633 to 688. We wouldn’t get too excited just yet, but it’ll definitely keep him in the lineup through next week.

It was a two-run shot off Jake Irvin. Vientos had been 4-for-26 with one RBI and no walks this month before going 2-for-4 with a homer on Sunday. It seemed like his playing time was set to dwindle with Brett Baty outperforming him of late, but now the Mets figure to keep him in the lineup and see if this turns into a legitimate hot streak. That’s bad news for Ronny Mauricio, who was out of the lineup for a second straight game tonight.

The 25-year-old slugger drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second inning that increased the Mets’ lead to 3-0. He then broke the game wide open with a 385-foot (103.5 mph EV) two-out, three-run blast off of George Kirby in the fifth inning. He finished the evening 2-for-3 and is now hitting .232/.276/.372 with eight long balls and 36 RBI in 322 plate appearances on the season.

Vientos will sit again, and hasn’t played since Saturday. The 25-year-old begins another game on the bench with Brett Baty hitting eighth while playing third base, and Ronny Mauricio lined up as the designated hitter and hitting seventh.

Vientos also sat Friday, so with off days last Thursday and yesterday, he’s started just once in six days. Vientos actually put together an 11-game hitting streak from July 19-Aug. 3, and he’s hit a decent .286/.291/.429 with 11 RBI in his last 21 games. Still, he’s clearly not inspiring much confidence in the eyes of the Mets. They haver Starling Marte DHing and Brett Baty at third tonight.

There doesn’t appear to be anything wrong physically with the 25-year-old slugger, it’s just a routine day of rest. Ronny Mauricio will start in his place at the hot corner and will bat eighth for the Mets against Brewers’ right-hander Brandon Woodruff.

USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale reported Sunday that the White Sox want Vientos in return for Luis Robert Jr., but it’s unclear if the Mets are considering that. Martino, who says the Mets are actively discussing Vientos deals, mentions Diamondbacks starters Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly as possibilities for the Mets, and Arizona definitely has room for Vientos with Josh Naylor gone and Eugenio Suárez almost sure to follow. The Mets could also keep Vientos and trade either Brett Baty or Ronny Mauricio, but it appears they value the other two more highly at the moment. Of course, both of them would be in line to benefit from a Vientos trade.

Vientos has surfaced in trade rumors ahead of Thursday’s deadline, with USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale reporting this weekend that the White Sox have made it clear they want him included in any potential deal for Luis Robert Jr. It’s been a disappointing season overall for the 25-year-old third baseman, but moving on from him could prove short-sighted for New York unless it’s part of a deal for a bona fide star. The Mets have the infield depth to consider such a move, making this a situation worth monitoring closely.

Vientos has had a season to forget. The 25-year-old third baseman became a household name with an excellent performance in the playoffs last year, but has been one of the bigger fantasy busts this season. Vientos is hitting .233 with a .641 OPS, but could help fantasy teams in the second half of the year if he regains his form from last year.

Vientos is back after missing most of June with his hamstring strain. The 25-year-old will be the everyday option at third base, and offers a good chance to provide some power production now that he’s eligible to do so.

Vientos has missed the majority of June with his hamstring strain, but the 25-year-old is ready to roll after completing his rehab assignment. He should hit near the middle of the Mets’ lineup. It’s likely Ronny Mauricio will be optioned back to Syracuse to make room for Vientos on the active roster.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was noncommittal regarding whether Vientos will be activated on Thursday or if they’ll wait until Friday’s series opener against the Pirates. The positive news is that he’ll make his return to New York’s lineup at some point in the next 48 hours. The 25-year-old corner infielder has been out since early June recovering from a hamstring strain. It’ll likely be Ronny Mauricio heading back to the minors in a corresponding move to continue playing everyday, but that is purely speculation.

Vientos needs a few additional rehab contests before returning to New York’s lineup. He’s scheduled to play on Tuesday and Wednesday in the minors, which puts him on track to be activated for Thursday’s series finale against Atlanta at Citi Field. It’s notable that Luisangel Acuña has already been optioned to the minors and Ronny Mauricio seems to be the logical move to get him back on the active roster.

Vientos is working his way back from a right hamstring strain and should be ready to return by the end of the month. The big question for fantasy purposes is how New York’s infield mix will shake out once he’s back in the fold. It’ll likely be Ronny Mauricio heading back to the minors with Brett Baty ceding some at-bats to facilitate his return.

The 25-year-old slugger has been sidelined since early June due to a right hamstring strain. He should only require a couple of games to get his timing back at the plate before he’s ready to rejoin the Mets. If all goes well, he could be ready to return at some point during next weekend’s series against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

The strain looked bad when it happened, but it turned out to be quite a bit milder than expected, and it’s starting to sound like Vientos might be back next week. Meanwhile, Ronny Mauricio is getting more of Vientos’s at-bats and is hoping to prove indispensable by the time Vientos is ready to return.

It’s the best-case scenario as Vientos will continue receiving treatment for the next two weeks before he’s ready to resume baseball activities. The 25-year-old third baseman is still facing a multi-week absence, but it sounds like there’s a chance he’s back before the end of June. It’ll be Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio handling the hot corner in his absence.

No word yet on the severity, which will determine how much time Vientos misses. The 25-year-old third baseman heads to the injured list after suffering the ailment during Monday’s series opener against the Dodgers. He’s struggled this season at the dish to a lackluster .230/.298/.380 triple-slash line with just six homers and 21 RBI through 53 games. His absence opens the door for a surging Brett Baty to play every day at the hot corner.

It’s Vientos’s first homer since May 11 and his first RBI since May 17. His average actually increased a bit during his power drought, but a few more strikeouts would be OK if they came with some more homers and doubles. He’s at .235/.305/.385 right now.

Vientos is back at third base and batting second on Sunday night as the Mets face off against the powerhouse Dodgers at Citi Field in primetime. The 25-year-old returns following a two-game absence due to abdominal soreness. The other notable variable here is that red-hot Brett Baty is getting a turn at second base instead of heading to the bench.

Vientos had three straight multihit games last week, but he hasn’t been able to build on that since. He’s hitting .276/.295/.345 with one homer and three RBI in 16 games this month. Trading power for fewer strikeouts, if it’s something he’s doing intentionally, just is not working for him.
