Walker and Isaac Paredes combined to drive in all seven Houston runs, with Walker knocking in Paredes three times. It’s hard not to wonder where this version of Walker was last year in his first season with Houston. He’s batting .291/.373/.573 with seven homers and 23 RBI through 29 games.

Walker switched up his facial hair and snapped an 0-for-15 slump by taking Guardians starter Slade Cecconi deep in the opening frame as part of a three-hit effort that left him a triple shy of the cycle. The 35-year-old has graded out as a top-12 fantasy option at first base early on, slashing .274/.367/.536 with 16 runs scored, five homers and 18 RBI through 24 games.

Walker continued his scorching start at the plate with another multi-hit game on Tuesday, starting with a solo homer off Michael Lorenzen in the second inning. He reached on a fielder’s choice in the third and scored, then led off the fifth with a base hit. Walker collected his third hit of the game with a single in the seventh. Walker was seen doing work before the game on his leg, with Brian McTaggert of MLB.com reporting that it would help determine his availability for the contest. It’s not known when he picked up the ailment, but he’ll sit Saturday with Isaac Paredes getting the start at first and hitting third.

Walker took Kyle Freeland deep for a solo homer in the second inning to put the Astros on the board. It would be the only run Houston could get across against the Rockies on Tuesday. Walker has been hot at the plate in the early going, with Tuesday’s blast his third in four games.

Walker was a massive disappointment in his first year with the Astros, and while Houston has only played a little under 1/16th of the season thus far, it’s been a much better beginning to 2026 for the veteran. He’s homered in back-to-back games, and already driven in 11 runs while forging an OPS of 1.054. Considering his ballpark and previous offensive success prior to the 2025 scuffles, there’s plenty of reason for optimism with Walker in 2026. Cautious optimism, but, optimism.

Walker had a big day at the plate in Sacramento, starting with a base hit in the first inning to drive in a run. He followed with a leadoff homer in the second off Luis Morales, his first of the season, then drew a walk and scored in the fourth. Walker added a double and his third run scored in the sixth for a three-hit game. The 35-year-old slugger is off to his hard-hitting ways in the early going, coming into this one with a 63.6% hard-hit rate and adding two more batted balls of 108 mph and 105 mph.

Walker drew a one-out walk in the second inning and then came around to score on a two-run knock off the bat of Christian Vazquez. The 35-year-old first baseman smacked a two-run double in the fifth inning that tied the score at 6-6. He’s off to a nice start to the 2026 season, hitting .308 (4-for-13) with a pair of runs scored and three RBI.

Walker was 3-for-32 this spring prior to today. With Jeremy Peña out, all four of Houston’s infielders can play regularly at the beginning of the season, but Walker really needs to take advantage, since he seemed like a worse bet than the competition coming into the spring and he hasn’t helped his cause this month. He hasn’t even been unlucky, as today’s homer, which was second, came on his very first barrel in Grapefruit League play.

Walker opened the scoring in the ballgame, crushing a 336-foot (100.2 mph EV) solo shot off of Kyle Leahy to lead off the second inning. He also singled in the fourth inning and scored on an RBI knock by Taylor Trammell. Even with his two-hit attack, the 34-year-old slugger is hitting just .130 (3-for-23) on the spring, so perhaps this is just what he needs to get his bat going as we inch closer to Opening Day.

With Carlos Correa now back in town and Yordan Alvarez likely spending all of next season at DH, the Astros have a surplus of infielders and likely need to trade one of Walker or Isaac Paredes. The Astros would like to keep Paredes and play him at first base, but they would need to find a way to trade Walker. The 34-year-old did hit 27 home runs last season, but he has two years, $40 million left on his contract and has been declining offensively over the last couple of years. The Astros would likely get back far more in a trade for Paredes, so the question will be whether Houston prefers to make essentially a salary dump trade or tries to bring back players of value.

It’s too little, too late for Walker, as the Astros were eliminated from contention today. Still, he does have four homers in three games, upping his season line to .238/.298/.421. His OPS is back up to .718, barely lower than his season-high mark of .720. One more good game Sunday and he’d be one of the rare players to finish with his highest OPS of the season on the final day of said season.

Walker opened the scoring in the ballgame with a 408-foot (108.3 mph EV) solo shot off of Kyle Hendricks to start the fourth inning. That would be his only hit in four at-bats on the night. The 34-year-old slugger has had a bit of a disappointing season overall at the dish, slashing .236/.296/.410 with 25 homers, 86 RBI and a pair of stolen bases.

Walker plated a run with a fielder’s choice in the top half of the first inning that increased the Astros’ early edge to 2-0. He then punched a two-out RBI single into right field off of Bradley Basso in the fourth inning that made it 7-0. He then put the cherry on top of the victory for the Astros with a 366-foot (107.4 mph EV) solo shot off of Scott McGough on the first pitch of the eighth inning. The 34-year-old slugger has been swinging a hot bat down the stretch and is now slashing .236/.296/.406 with 24 long balls and 85 RBI on the season.

The Astros are giving their 34-year-old first baseman a breather though he’ll undoubtedly be used off the bench in a key spot at some point during Saturday’s battle against the M’s. Instead the Astros will load their lineup with left-handed bats with Victor Caratini starting at first base and batting fifth against Mariners’ right-hander George Kirby.

He then pulverized a 1-2 sinker from Elder for a 431-foot (107.6 mph EV) two-run shot in the third inning that extended the Astros’ early advantage to 6-0.

Walker opened the scoring in the ballgame and gave the Astros a lead they would never relinquish with his 391-foot (102.9 mph EV) two-run blast off of Brandon Young in the top half of the first inning. The 34-year-old slugger also led off the third inning with a double and scored on an RBI double off the bat of Jesus Sanchez. With his two-hit attack, Walker is now slashing .235/.302/.396 with 17 homers, 67 RBI and just one stolen base in what has been a disappointing first season with the Astros.

Walker got the Astros going in this game with a loud 113.2 mph, 417 foot two-run homer in the first inning off Marlins’ starter Janson Junk. His counting stats have slowly been creeping up towards the respectable range and he has six homers and an .851 OPS over his last 30 games. There’s a good chance he maintains that level of production for the rest of the season, which looks much more like the player we expected him to be heading into the year.

Walker was dropped to sixth in the lineup with the Astros adding Jeremy Peña, Jesús Sánchez and Carlos Correa on Friday, but he was back in the cleanup spot today due to Peña’s absence. Obviously, batting sixth would take away a little of what fantasy value Walker has left. However, a well-timed hot streak — he’s now homered in back-to-back games — could keep him batting fourth.

The Astros’ offense was stymied by the combination of Cooper Criswell and Boston’s bullpen here. Walker’s solo home run in the second inning was the only home run they’d score as they wasted a fantastic start from Hunter Brown. While it’s been a disappointing first season in Houston for Walker, he had an .833 OPS in July and could have a nice hot streak in him to end the season.

Walker struck out three times today, but he doubled and singled in his remaining two at-bats as he finished off his return to Arizona. He went 6-for-14 with two RBI in the series, and he’s 9-for-23 with a homer and five RBI over his last five games. His current .681 OPS, while still quite disappointing, is his high mark of the year.

Walker hit a two-run homer off Ben Casparius, and that was one of five homers the Astros procured in an 18-1 drubbing. The veteran first baseman has now homered 11 times in his first year with the Astros after signing a three-year deal,, and he’s started July on a 10-for-19 tear.
