Rangers placed RHP Cole Winn on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to September 24, with a right rotator cuff strain.

That will obviously end the 25-year-old hurler’s 2025 campaign. He was terrific in 33 appearances out of the Rangers’ bullpen on the season, compiling a 1.51 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and a 35/17 K/BB ratio over 41 2/3 innings. No word yet on the severity of the injury and how it’ll impact his offseason routine.

Rangers activated RHP Cole Winn from the 15-day injured list.

The 25-year-old right-hander had been shelved since August 20 due to nerve irritation in his right hand. Before landing on the injured list he had registered a brilliant 1.45 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 26/15 K/BB ratio over 31 innings (25 appearances) out of the Rangers’ bullpen. Danny Coulombe (shoulder) landed on the injured list in a corresponding move on Thursday.

No word yet regarding how much time Winn misses. With only five-plus weeks left in the year, there’s a decent chance he’s done for the season. The 25-year-old righty has compiled a sparkling 1.45 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 26/15 K/BB ratio across 31 innings (25 appearances) this season at the highest level.

Rangers optioned RHP Cole Winn to Triple-A Round Rock.

Winn has been shipped back to the minors to enable the Rangers to bring in a fresh arm to bolster their overworked bullpen, which has been asked to shoulder an immense workload during four consecutive extra-inning games. He should be back in a couple weeks, if not sooner.

MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer reports the Mariners are planning to call up top prospect Cole Young after pulling from Friday’s game for Triple-A Tacoma.

The Mariners have gotten quality production from their second basemen this season, but they obviously — and probably correctly — don’t trust that the same will hold true going forward. Young, who hit .278/.391/.463 with five homers and four steals in 53 games for Tacoma, will likely get most of the starts there for now. The 21-year-old top prospect has been on fire lately, hitting .366 since the start of May. It’s quite possible he’ll be an upgrade, but since he’s unlikely to be a particularly strong source of homers or steals, he probably won’t be of much use in shallow mixed leagues. Miles Mastrobuoni figures to lose much of his playing time with Young up. Leo Rivas could be demoted to Triple-A Tacoma to clear space.

Mariners SS prospect Cole Young went 5-for-6 with two runs and two RBI for Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Young is the Mariners’ 2nd-ranked prospect and the 43rd-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. The 21-year-old is hitting .277/.384/.465 in 52 games at Triple-A this season with five home runs, four steals and a 28/27 K/BB ratio. The Mariners have J.P. Crawford entrenched at shortstop for this season, but it seems likely that Young will be starting there by 2026 at the latest.

Rangers optioned RHP Cole Winn to Triple-A Round Rock.

Winn was up with the Rangers for the past few days and wound up tossing 2 1/3 scoreless frames in his lone relief appearance during that span. He’ll head back to the minors to allow the club to bring up a fresh arm to re-stock their injury-depleted relief mix.
