Williams allowed a first-inning run because Johnathan Rodríguez misplayed a single in right. The second run came in the seventh, which started with a double and then a Jhonkensy Noel error; Noel, playing first base, had a hard shot go off his glove right to Brayan Rocchio at second base, but Noel slipped off the bag as he rushed back to handle the throw. It was originally ruled a single, but the change to an error came later. Williams was pulled after that, and the run scored on a sac fly off Hunter Gaddis, putting Williams in line for the loss in which had been a 1-1 game. It was still a stellar performance for Williams in his third straight start against the Tigers. He’s allowed a total of two earned runs over 17 innings between the three games.

Williams just dominated the Tigers on Tuesday, allowing just two runs on four hits in six innings while striking out 12. The 26-year-old has been lights out in the second half of the season, posting a 2.18 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 78 strikeouts in 70 1/3 innings. He will need to pitch that well in order for the Guardians to have a chance to beat Tarik Skubal and the Tigers.

The 26-year-old right-hander scattered four hits on the night while issuing two free passes. The Tigers scratched out a run against him in the second inning on an RBI double off the bat of Wenceel Perez. They added another on a solo blast by Riley Greene in the sixth. Williams was able to keep them off the board otherwise though, including working his way out of a bases-loaded one-out jam in the fourth inning. He got 18 swings and misses on 91 pitches on the night, registering an absurd CSW of 44 percent. He now sits a 12-5 with a 3.06 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 173/83 K/BB ratio over 167 2/3 innings on the season. He’ll now wait and see if he’s needed for Sunday’s regular season finale against the Rangers or if the Guardians will hold him back for the start of the postseason.

The Tigers made Williams throw 100 pitches in five innings, but they couldn’t get to him. He’s now pitched 11 scoreless innings with 17 strikeouts against Detroit this year, though the Guardians lost his previous start anyway. Williams moved to 11-5 with a 3.06 ERA. He’ll face the Tigers again next Tuesday. He could also come back for the final game of the season, though that figures to hinge on whether the Guardians are still in contention.

Williams punched out six batters on the night while issuing three free passes. He served up a two-run homer to Vinnie Pasquantino in the opening inning on an 0-2 fastball, then kept the Royals off the board for the rest of his evening. Williams generated 13 whiffs on 105 pitches on the night — six on his sweeper — while posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll bring a 3.16 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 152/79 K/BB ratio (156 2/3 innings) into Thursday’s divisional battle against the Tigers in Motown.

Williams gave up seven hits, walked three and struck out three. The 26-year-old right-hander has allowed one run in seven innings in back-to-back starts. Williams has a 3.17 ERA and 146/76 K/BB ratio in 150 2/3 innings this year. He’s lined up to face the Royals at home next week.

Williams has alternated poor starts with quality ones, and after allowing three runs in 3 1/3 innings against the Rangers on Sunday, he delivered another solid effort. He struck out eight against one walk, with the only run coming on a solo homer from Jorge Polanco. Williams now has a 3.26 ERA to go with a 9-5 record, and he has a chance to improve both solid marks against the Rays in Tampa next week.

Williams gave up three hits, walked four and struck out three. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed at least three runs and didn’t make it out of the fourth inning for the second time in his last three starts. Williams has a 3.36 ERA and 135/72 SO/BB ratio in 136 2/3 innings this year. He’s lined up to face the Mariners at home next weekend.

Williams scuffled against the Marlins and lasted just three innings Wednesday, and while he didn’t exactly get deep Monday, it was a much more effective outing. All four hits he allowed were singles, and he walked one and struck out five. The 26-year-old now has an ERA of 3.24 on the 2025 campaign over 133 1/3 innings with a 132/68 K/BB and 25 starts. He’ll square off against the Rangers on Monday.

This was not a good encore for Williams’ near-no-hitter last week. The Marlins jumped on him for four quick runs in the top of the first and then made him work hard in the following two innings before he was pulled. It should not have come as a surprise to see him not be sharp after a 126-pitch outing, but it’s still disappointing nonetheless. He’ll try to get back on track in what lines up to be a two-start week coming up against the Diamondbacks and Rangers as his Guardians head out west.

Williams was robbed of a 126-pitch complete with two outs in the ninth, when the ump gave Brandon Nimmo a walk on a 3-2 pitch that caught the top of the strike zone. Before that, Juan Soto homered just over Angel Martínez’s glove with one out. Williams finished the day with four walks and six strikeouts. The no-hitter nearly ended before it even started, as Francisco Lindor led off the bottom of the first with a comeback liner that knocked Williams’ glove off. Williams, though, recovered to run down the ball and get Lindor at first. The 126 pitches is an MLB season high for any hurler, but the Guardians have Thursday and Monday off and can give Williams a couple of extra days of rest. We imagine he’ll pitch next Wednesday or Thursday against the Marlins.

Williams gave up four hits, walked two and struck out eight. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 2.54 ERA and 57/30 K/BB ratio in 63 2/3 innings over his last 11 starts. Williams is in the groove heading into next week’s start against the Mets on the road.

Williams allowed five hits, walked two and struck out three. Maikel Garcia’s two-run homer in the fourth was responsible for the damage. Williams’ ability to miss bats varies greatly from start to start, but at least the overall results are getting more consistent. He has a 2.25 ERA in his last four starts, and he hasn’t had any truly bad outings since May. Williams will likely next face the Twins on Friday. Unfortunately, last night’s rainout cost him what would have been a home start versus the Rockies on Wednesday.

Williams gave up four hits, walked one and struck out 11. The 25-year-old right-hander absolutely dominated as he recorded 19 whiffs on the afternoon. His whiff percentage on his curveball was a whopping 78 percent. Williams has a 3.54 ERA and 106/58 K/BB ratio in 104 1/3 innings this year. He’s lined up to face the Royals on the road next weekend.

The 25-year-old right-hander struggled badly with his command in this one, issuing five walks and throwing just 59 of his 102 pitches for strikes. Williams struck out five batters on the evening. Most of the damage done against him came via the long ball — with Lenyn Sosa belting a pair of solo home runs in the first and fifth innings. He got 11 whiffs on the evening, registering a CSW of 25 percent. He finishes an inconsistent first half with a 5-4 record, 3.70 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 95/57 K/BB ratio across 97 1/3 innings through his first 19 starts on the season.

Williams gave up one hit, walked three and struck out eight. The 25-year-old right-hander was excellent against the Tigers Sunday. Williams got into a jam in the fifth inning as he allowed three consecutive baserunners with two outs before striking out Colt Keith to end the inning. He has a 3.61 ERA and 90/52 K/BB ratio in 92 1/3 innings this year. Williams is lined up to face the White Sox on the road next weekend.

Williams also issued four free passes on the night while striking out a pair of opposing hitters. The Cubs jumped on him for three runs in the second inning on an RBI knock by Michael Busch and a two-run single off the bat of Carson Kelly. They tacked on another as Seiya Suzuki clubbed a solo shot in the sixth inning. The 25-year-old hurler got eight whiffs on 96 pitches on the evening, posting a CSW of 22 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he brings a 3.86 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and an 82/49 K/BB ratio (86 1/3 innings) into Sunday’s divisional showdown against the Tigers.

Williams generated only six whiffs and two strikeouts tonight. He walked three. Over his last six outings, he has an ugly 23/19 K/BB in 32 2/3 innings, though he does have three quality starts during the span. It’s just disappointing that he is, at best, the same pitcher now that he was when he entered the leagues in 2023. He’ll be a dangerous play in mixed leagues next week on the road against the Cubs and at home versus the Tigers.

If the Guardians hadn’t won 3-2 and 4-2 the last two nights, Williams, who allowed just two hits, might have gotten a victory today, Alas, with the bullpen having been worked hard, Cade Smith and Emmanuel Clase probably weren’t available in this one, and Matt Festa and Nic Enright combined to give up two runs to blow a 1-0 lead in the seventh. Williams will make his next start Wednesday at home against the Blue Jays.

Williams allowed six hits, and he walked three while striking out just one. He needed 89 pitches to get through those four frames, and to say he wasn’t efficient is quite the understatement. He’ll get a chance to rebound next week and lower a 3.89 ERA against the Giants on Thursday in San Francisco.

Williams held the Astros scoreless until the fifth inning when Houston brought one run in on three hits. Yainer Díaz extended the Houston lead with a two-run homer off Williams in the sixth. Williams would be done after six frames with five strikeouts. The 25-year-old right-hander will take a 3.86 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and a 71/36 K/BB ratio across 65 1/3 innings into a start against the Mariners in Seattle on Friday.

Williams was a big success today even though his velocity was down some. The same thing happened against the Twins two starts ago; he was down about 1-1.5 mph on all of his pitches yet still turned in one of his better starts. Last time out, his fastball was back up to 97.1 mph in a weaker showing against the Dodgers. Today, he averaged 95.6 mph yet allowed just one hit. Williams is already a difficult enough pitcher to get a read on, and the fluctuating velocity isn’t helping. Still, it’s nice that he’s succeeding with his cutter, a pitch he didn’t use at all in his first four starts, used sparingly in his next five and now has featured prominently in his last three outings. He’ll face the righty-heavy Astros next, which makes for a tough matchup given his reverse splits.

He also walked six and struck out three, but the start was far better than the numbers indicate. Williams induced 15 whiffs and posted a 28 percent CSW on the day. He was in good shape until the fifth inning when he wound up throwing 42 pitches and recording just two outs. He wasn’t bad in that inning either; the heart of the Dodgers’ order just fouled off 10 two-strike pitches in that inning. Shohei Ohtani worked a seven-pitch walk, Freddie Freeman and Will Smith both worked eight-pitch walks, and Max Muncy worked a nine-pitch at-bat for a sacrifice fly. Williams has looked like a much better pitcher since bringing his cutter back in, and he should be started with confidence against the Angels this weekend.

Williams allowed four hits and also walked four. It’s the first time he’s made a start without allowing a run since he did so twice against the Tigers last July. The victory makes him 3-2 with a 4.38 ERA and a 45/23 K/BB in 37 innings. He’d a decent play with a home start against the Brewers coming up next week.

Williams served up a solo homer to Bo Bichette on his first pitch of the game. He somehow allowed just one more run in through four inefficient innings despite giving up six more hits and five walks. Nine strikeouts help. Williams would be done after four innings at 100 pitches, just 59 for strikes. The 25-year-old right-hander will take a 5.06 ERA, 1.75 WHIP, and a 37/19 K/BB ratio across 32 innings into a start against the Phillies in Cleveland on Friday.

Williams indicated afterwards that he would have preferred to keep going. He didn’t have much luck on a few of the singles he gave up, and while the homer he allowed was hit 403 feet to center, it would have left only 10 ballparks. Williams has been alternating good starts and bad ones on his way to a 2-2 record and a 5.14 ERA, so that means he’ll be better next time out in Toronto, right?

Definitely the best outing of the year to date for Williams. He did hold the White Sox to one run 11 days ago, but it was the White Sox and he threw only five innings then. Williams topped out at 99.6 mph, struck out eight and produced 21 whiffs tonight. He’ll take a 2-1 record and a 4.15 ERA into his next start versus the Red Sox.

The early season woes continued for Williams who again did not have his best stuff in this one. Truthfully, he was lucky to get out of this outing with just those four runs. Ironically, all four of those runs came on one swing when Jackson Holiday blasted a grand slam. Otherwise, the Orioles made 12 hard-hit outs and Williams did not have many solutions as they attacked him all game. Baltimore stacked their lineup with six of nine left-handed batters and Williams’ response was a heavy dose of fastballs, which forced just three swings-and-misses. Past that, he tried to sneak some sweepers by them too so as to not get predictable with just his fastball and curveball. Most sweepers were noncompetitive and Holliday’s home run came on the only one that actually wound up in the zone through his first five innings of work. Things will not get easier for him either, as he’s scheduled to face the Yankees next time out.
