The Rockies had designated Blalock for assignment when they signed Michael Lorenzen, so it’s nice that they were able to get anything in exchange for him. The 25-year-old has thrown at least 110 innings in each of the last three minor league seasons and has impressive control, but he has a below-average fastball, so it remains to be seen how he would handle Coors Field. He should begin the year in Double-A.
