There clearly wasn’t another organization out there willing to trade for Winckowski, which left Boston with no alternative besides cutting him completely. The 27-year-old righty was limited to just 11 2/3 innings over six appearances this past season due to elbow inflammation.

The 20-year-old Adamczewski is just 6-for-33 for the Saguaros, but five of those hits have gone for extra bases and he’s walked seven times. A 15th-round pick in 2023, Adamczewski was limited to 71 games this year, with the bulk of them coming in Low-A ball, but he hit .320/.420/.490. Unfortunately, it looks like he’s not going to make it as a second baseman, and he’s been playing left field in the AFL. Still, the bat is pretty interesting.

It’s a procedural move to create a spot on the 40-man roster for Robert Stock. Winckowski won’t be eligible to return to the Boston pitching staff until after the All-Star break while working through right elbow inflammation.

Winckowski threw 80 pitches in relief on Wednesday, so the Red Sox will send him back to the minors and bring up Luis Guerrero as a fresh arm in the bullpen. Winckowski has allowed five earned runs on 11 hits in 11 2/3 innings this season with nine strikeouts and five walks.
