Heyman fortifies Boston’s organizational catching depth after a strong collegiate career at the University of Florida led the Mariners to take him in the 14th round of the 2025 MLB Draft. The 22-year-old slugging backstop will make his professional debut this upcoming season and figures to move relatively quickly given his age.

Weaver was tasked with working the ninth inning with the Yankees trailing by a run on Tuesday. He made things interesting by allowing a leadoff double to Brooks Baldwin but battled back to retire the next three hitters in order to strand him at second base. He then became the beneficiary as the Yankees walked it off in the home half of the frame. For the season, the 32-year-old hurler boasts a 3.73 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 70/20 K/BB ratio over 62 2/3 innings on the season.

Devin Williams opened the door for Weaver last night by taking a loss after coming into a tie game, but Weaver walked straight into the wall once again. He’s surrendered seven runs — six earned — in five innings since coming off the IL two weeks ago.

Weaver took over with two on and one out in a tied game in the seventh. He should have had the first guy he faced, Addison Barger, struck out, but Barger managed to hit J.C. Escarra’s glove with a late half-swing and was awarded first base. After that came a single and the slam from George Springer. Weaver retired Vladimir Guerrero Jr. afterwards and was lifted having given up three runs, two of which were earned. Weaver will probably be fine, but since Devin Williams has settled back into the closer’s role nicely, Weaver is droppable in mixed leagues.

As expected, Weaver is back after missing just under three weeks with his hamstring strain. The 31-year-old should return as the closer for the Yankees, and offers significant fantasy upside — for a reliever, anyway — as their stopper.

It had been reported earlier that Weaver could likely skip a rehab stint, and that appears to be the case. He will have beaten his estimated recovery timeline by almost a month, so that causes a bit of fear that there could be re-injury; however, Weaver is worth adding onto your bench if you have space since we have not heard directly from the Yankees how they plan to use him and Devin Williams in the weeks ahead. There may be a closer committee in New York, given how well both have pitched.

Weaver threw a live batting practice session on Tuesday and reportedly looked “excellent.” The session has Boone thinking that Weaver won’t need a rehab assignment after all and could return to the Yankees bullpen this weekend, which would be way ahead of his potential six-week timeline for recovery. It remains to be seen whether he will get the closer’s job back when he returns, but it feels likely that both he and Devin Williams will remain in the mix for saves.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone spoke glowingly about Devin Williams’ recent performance in the closer role, so it seems like the club isn’t going to rush Weaver back. However, it’s worth noting that he’s made remarkable progress already in his recovery from a left hamstring strain. He should be ready to kick off a rehab assignment before the end of June and could make it back to New York’s high-leverage mix shortly afterwards.

Weaver has already completed a pair of bullpen sessions and is trending in a positive direction as he makes a warp speed recovery from a left hamstring strain, which was originally expected to keep him sidelined for at least one month. The 31-year-old stopper is still at least a couple weeks from making it back, but he’s making some real progress. Devin Williams will continue handling the closing duties for New York in his absence.

Weaver, who was hurt warming up during Sunday’s game, is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Devin Williams is slated to return to the closer’s role for the Yankees. He has a 3.29 ERA and a 20/5 K/BB in 13 2/3 innings since being replaced by Weaver in late April. Ironically, he earned his one save during the span in one of the two outings in which he allowed runs.

Passan adds that the official timetable will be determined prior to Tuesday’s series opener against Cleveland, but Weaver will require a trip to the injured list. The 31-year-old closer suffered the injury while warming up on Sunday night at Dodger Stadium. The clear beneficiary here is Devin Williams, who should take over as New York’s primary closing option while Weaver is sidelined.

Weaver had been up as the Yankees had a 6-3 lead heading to the ninth, but ultimately Tim Hill came on once they scored a run in the top half of the inning to run their lead to four. Still, it was noticeable that Hill and Mark Leiter Jr. were warming in a save situation and now we get confirmation on the minor injury for Weaver. It’s something fantasy managers should certainly keep an eye on as lineups are set for the upcoming week.

Weaver came in to pitch with the Yankees leading 5-1, so he doesn’t get credited with a save. He also gave up a walk and single, so he takes a bit of a hit in the WHIP category as well. Still, it’s another scoreless outing for Weaver, and he lowers his ERA to a shiny 0.74 for his work. Weaver should remain the closer in New York for the foreseeable future, but Devin Williams may pick up a save chance on Tuesday since Weaver has worked back-to-back games.

Weaver gave up two singles after the homer, but he then got Ezequiel Tovar to fly out and Hunter Goodman to strike out. It’s the closest thing Weaver has had to a misstep in a while, and he still has a 0.76 ERA for the season. Still, the door might have cracked open a little for Devin Williams today. Williams worked a scoreless eighth, striking out three of the five batters he faced, for his sixth hold.

The Yankees entered the ninth inning with a 5-0 advantage, so it didn’t look like Weaver’s services would be needed. Things got tighter though after Jonah Heim crushed a two-out, two-run homer off of Ian Hamilton. Hamilton then allowed a triple to Sam Haggerty, after which Yankees’ skipper Aaron Boone went to his stopper to close it out. He quickly got Josh Smith to pop out to second base to end the threat, picking up his sixth save in the process. On the season, he holds a spectacular 0.44 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and a 22/6 K/BB ratio over 20 2/3 innings.

The save was Weaver’s fifth of the season. While the Yankees won 6-2, a save situation arose in the top of the ninth inning when the Mets scored a run and put two men on base. Weaver came in and got Juan Soto to fly out to center for the final out in Soto’s return to Yankee Stadium after signing with the Mets in the offseason. While Devin Williams has pitched better since losing the closer’s job and logic might tell us that the Yankees plan to move him back to the ninth inning role eventually, Weaver has excelled since given the job much like he did last year.

It’s the first save chance that Weaver has had since taking over the closer’s role from Devin Williams and he made it look extremely easy — getting Chandler Simpson on a line drive to right before striking out Yandy Diaz and Junior Caminero to end it. Weaver has yet to allow a run through his first 15 innings on the season while registering a 0.56 WHIP and a 16/5 K/BB ratio. For as long as he keeps the closer’s gig, he should be treated as one of the truly elite closers in the game.

With Devin Williams unavailable, Weaver stepped back into the ninth inning role and didn’t miss a beat, getting Brandon Lowe and Christopher Morel each on swinging third strikes before retiring Kameron Misner on a pop out to second base to end it. Weaver has been a major weapon out of the Yankees’ bullpen this season, firing 10 innings of shutout baseball with a 0.70 WHIP and an 11/5 K/BB ratio.
