Winn was shut down for the rest of the season back on September 13 with a torn meniscus in his right knee that he played through for the majority of the year. The 23-year-old shortstop wrapped up his second big-league season with a .253/.310/.363 triple-slash line with 72 runs scored, nine home runs, 51 RBI and nine stolen bases in 537 plate appearances over 129 games. He’s expected to be fully recovered in time for spring training.

Winn has been shut down for the final two weeks of the season and is slated to undergo arthroscopic surgery in near future to repair damage to the meniscus in his right knee. The 23-year-old likely upcoming Gold Glove Award-winning shortstop is expected to be ready for spring training. He finishes his second big-league campaign with an underwhelming .253/.310/.363 triple-slash line with 72 runs scored, nine home runs, 51 RBI and nine stolen bases in 537 plate appearances over 129 games. It’ll be Thomas Saggese and José Fermín taking over at shortstop in his absence to wrap up the season.

Winn had been playing through a meniscus tear in his right knee, but it seemed inevitable that he would ultimately be shut down — especially after he was scratched from Friday’s lineup. The 23-year-old shortstop finishes with an underwhelming .253/.310/.363 slash line with nine homers, 51 RBI and nine stolen bases in 537 plate appearances. He’s expected to have a normal offseason after undergoing surgery and will be ready to go for the start of spring training.

The 23-year-old shortstop had been slated to return to action after missing the last two games due to a meniscus tear in his left knee, but wound up being a late scratch to the lineup after experiencing renewed soreness. If this continues to linger, the Cardinals may be better served just shutting him down for the remainder of the season.

There was optimism Winn would return to St. Louis’ lineup for this contest, but the Cardinals are going to give him some extra time off to rest. The 23-year-old shortstop will play through a small meniscus tear in his left knee for the final two-plus weeks of the season before undergoing surgery.

Winn was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup with left knee soreness, which has been an ongoing issue throughout the season. The 23-year-old shortstop told reporters there’s no risk for further damage if he continues playing through the small meniscus tear and expects to have a normal offseason following the procedure. It doesn’t sound like there are any plans to shut him down for the rest of the season.

It’ll be Thomas Saggese taking over at shortstop. Winn has been battling through a lingering left knee issue this season, which has required the occasional maintenance day. There should be an additional update on his status following the contest.

It’s a rare off day for Winn, who has been playing through a lingering left knee issue for the majority of the season. Thomas Saggese is at shortstop on Sunday afternoon in his place. The 23-year-old shortstop has made six straight starts since missing a game last weekend with left knee pain.

Winn chipped in big hit after big hit in what became a fun, back-and-forth affair through the late innings here. It started out with an RBI single third inning single that put Reds starter Zack Littell on the ropes. Then, a run-scoring double in the eighth that put his Cardinals back ahead just after the Reds tied this game up. Finally, a back-breaking single in the 10th inning that stretched St. Louis’ lead to two runs. It’s been a brutal month for him with a .588 OPS, so here’s to hoping a few timely hits can help build his confidence back up.

Marmol added that Winn’s knee showed signs of improvement and that he’s at no risk of further damage by continuing to play. The 23-year-old shortstop is back in Monday’s lineup after sitting out Sunday’s game with left knee pain. The lingering issue, which required an injection during last month’s All-Star break, may need to be addressed in the offseason but he’s not at risk of missing time going forward. The latest development seemingly closes the door on the possibility of top prospect JJ Wetherholt ascending to the big leagues this week.

The Cardinals haven’t yet said what Winn’s MRI today turned up, but it was good news, obviously. Ivan Herrera is out of the lineup tonight, which is probably why Winn is hitting second instead of his usual fifth.

MLB’s John Denton reports that Winn “received a pain-killing injection in his left knee during the All-Star break and has been dealing with persistent soreness for weeks.” Winn said that he had an MRI in July, which “showed a little something,” and he expects this one to as well; however, he does plan to play through it. “Whatever it shows, I’m going to be ready to play tomorrow and going forward. It sucks that I’ve had to miss two of the last four games, but going forward, I’m going to have to play through it and suck it up.” At some point, the Cardinals may decide to shut down their 23-year-old shortstop, but it doesn’t seem like that’s imminent.

Winn ultimately requiring a trip to the injured list would pave the way for top prospect JJ Wetherholt to ascend to the majors in an everyday role. There should be some clarity on his status before the weekend wraps up. He’s been playing through a lingering knee issue that required an injection during last month’s All-Star break. It’s a situation that fantasy managers should monitor closely. Wetherholt is already rostered in most fantasy leagues, but he needs to be stashed in those where he’s still available.

Winn gave the Cardinals a 5-2 lead with his three-run blast off an ineffective Max Fried in the second inning. He’s now homered nine times in 2025, and it’s the second he’s hit in the month of August. Winn obviously needs to show more consistent offense to be a reliable fantasy player, but it’s worth noting that this is a player who doesn’t turn 24 until near the end of March. There’s enough success to have optimism. Cautious optimism, but optimism.

Winn has mostly batted towards the bottom of the lineup since Brendan Donovan took over the leadoff spot back in mid-June. The 23-year-old shortstop’s long-term future remains bright, but he has just seven homers and six steals through 97 games this season. It’ll be rookie Thomas Saggese taking over at shortstop on Wednesday night.

After a down month of June, Winn is now 26-for-86 (.302) in July but has just nine RBI and six runs scored as the Cardinals have faltered. The lack of counting stats is a bit of a concern, but Winn is putting up solid enough numbers to be useful in the middle infield spot in most formats.

Winn capitalized on two walks issued by Nick Pivetta ahead of his at-bat in the Cardinals’ half of the fourth inning on Friday. The 23-year-old shortstop lined a double that drove in two runs to centerfield. It was the big hit in the Cardinals’ 3-0 victory. Winn is hitting .267 with a .707 OPS and 36 RBI on the year and remains more valuable in “real-life” than fantasy.

Winn doubled home Nolan Arenado to tie the game at 2-2. The shortstop also singled twice. At this point in his career Winn is a much better “real-life” shortstop than a fantasy one, but there’s just enough games like this to suggest he could be a legitimate starter in redraft leagues in the coming campaigns.

The 23-year-old shortstop plated Victor Scott II with a run-scoring double in the sixth inning that extended the Cardinals’ lead to 7-0. He has done a nice job at the dish for the Cardinals this season, slashing .263/.324/.391 with seven homers, 32 RBI and four stolen bases.

Winn’s Cardinals could not get anything going against MacKenzie Gore in this one. He had a late single to score a run against reliever Cole Henry in what was otherwise a lackluster game for their lineup. His double earlier in the game was more of a cue shot that he only hit 56.5 mph off the bat. It was also just his third extra-base hit over the last two weeks as he’s been trapped in a bit of a power outage.

Winn tagged Cubs’ right-hander Jameson Taillon for a 383-foot (97.2 mph EV) two-run shot in the third inning that pulled the Cardinals to within a run at 5-4. He then smacked a go-ahead two-run double the following inning that put the Cardinals ahead to stay. With his two-hit attack, the 23-year-old shortstop is now hitting .256/.324/.391 with seven homers, 29 RBI and four stolen bases on the season.

Winn led off the fourth inning with a double and scored on a hit by Willson Contreras. He later added a base hit in the eighth for his third multi-hit game in his last four contests. The 23-year-old shortstop is hitting .304 with five home runs since moving to the second spot in the batting order on April 30.

The Cardinals stormed all the way back after falling behind 3-0 early in this game and Winn led the charge. He scored their first run, hit a RBI double the following inning, and set the table for their final insurance run late. It’s been a tale of two seasons for Winn so far: first struggling before his stint on the injured list with a sprained ankle and then having an .830 OPS with 13 extra-base hits in 32 games since.

Winn was in a little 4-for-24 slump with no extra-base hits and no walks in his last six games. That doesn’t seem like a big deal, but any extended run of futility could result in Winn being dropped to the bottom of the Cardinals lineup and losing most of his fantasy value. He’s still batting a fine .262/.345/.413 overall.

Winn’s one hard-hit ball today actually turned into a double play. His doubles came on a 59-mph flare over the first baseman’s head and an 89-mph grounder down the left field line. Both drove in runs, giving him 10 RBI through 27 games.

Winn will get some extra time to rest and recover after making an early exit from the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Mets with a mild left ankle sprain. The 23-year-old shortstop told reporters he’s aiming to return to Tuesday’s lineup after waking up feeling better than expected. It’ll be Jose Barrero at shortstop on Monday night in his absence.

The 23-year-old shortstop sustained the injury as he tripped rounding third base in the third inning. No word yet on the severity of the injury — or how much time Winn may stand to miss. Expect the Cardinals to provide an update on his status after the game.
