Ward got the O’s on the board with a 394-foot (107.4 mph EV) three-run blast off of Joey Cantillo in the fifth inning, trimming their deficit to two runs at 5-3. The 32-year-old outfielder also singled in the contest. He has done a very nice job in his first year with the Orioles, slashing .295/.388/.445 with a homer, 11 RBI and one stolen base in his first 103 plate appearances.

Ward smacked a two-out single off of Adrian Houser in the fifth inning then raced around to score on Pete Alonso’s two-run double. He also singled to lead off the seventh and scored on an infield single off the bat of Colton Cowser. Ward is still looking for his first home run of the season, but is slashing a terrific .356/.435/.525 with 10 doubles, seven runs scored and eight RBI in his first 69 plate appearances with the O’s.

Ward had 36 homers and 31 doubles last year. Through 11 games this season, he has zero homers but an MLB-high nine doubles. A bit of a reversal was expected there with Ward trading Angel Stadium for Camden Yards, but it’s not a ballpark thing at all so far; none of Ward’s doubles would have been homers in any ballpark. In fact, his farthest pulled flyball to date this season was a 260-foot single. It’s probably all pretty meaningless at this point. Ward is hitting .383/.464/.574 and has eight RBI despite hitting only first and second.

As a team, the Orioles had eight hits in the contest, with Ward the only member of the O’s to tally more than one. He led off the fourth inning with a double off of Braxton Ashcraft then scored his club’s first run on an RBI double off the bat of Pete Alonso. While he has yet to hit a home run, Ward is off to a nice start with his new ballclub, slashing .343/.429/.457 with five RBI and a 9/6 K/BB ratio in his first 42 plate apperarnces.

Ward didn’t seem like the ideal choice to open as the Orioles’ leadoff hitter, but he done just fine there so far, batting .300 with a 4/3 K/BB. He is still looking for his first homer. Last year, he had 36 of those for the Angels, though he hit .228 with 175 strikeouts in the process.

Even against a right-handed pitcher, Ward will man the top spot in the lineup. That figures to be a valuable place in the order, given the caliber of hitters behind him. Ward was likely going too late in drafts and could be in for a big season in Baltimore. The rest of the Orioles’ lineup is: Taylor Ward LF, Gunnar Henderson SS, Pete Alonso 1B, Adley Rutschman C, Samuel Basallo DH, Tyler O’Neill RF, Colton Cowser CF, Coby Mayo 3B, and Blaze Alexander 2B.

Ward broke open the scoring with a three-run blast off of Noah Davis in the fifth inning. It was Ward’s first home run and RBI of the spring, but the 32-year-old remains a boring upside pick in fantasy baseball drafts since it seems like he will be the leadoff hitter for a good Orioles lineup.

Newly minted Orioles skipper Craig Albernaz told reporters Ward is a candidate to lead off this season, particularly against left-handed pitchers. The 32-year-old offseason acquisition’s fantasy value would increase with a permanent move to the top of the order, especially since he would be getting on-base ahead of superstars Gunnar Henderson and Pete Alonso. It’s an intriguing development that fantasy managers should continue monitoring as Grapefruit League action gets underway.

Ward was just traded to the Orioles in the offseason and will hit in the middle of their lineup for at least one more season. He did hit 36 home runs and drive in 103 runs for the Angels last season, so if he can come close to producing that in 2026, he would be a tremendous bargain at this cost.

Ward is a perfectly solid first-division regular, coming off a season in which he hit .228/.317/.475 with 36 homers and 103 RBI. Still, moving on from Rodríguez’s considerable long-term upside when they could have more easily signed a veteran bat suggests that the Orioles just don’t feel very good about his long-term outlook. Ward, who has one year left of arbitration before free agency, figures to step in as Baltimore’s starting left fielder, leaving two outfield spots and some DH at-bats to be divided among Colton Cowser, Dylan Beavers, Tyler O’Neill and anyone else who might emerge like Heston Kjerstad or Enrique Bradfield Jr. From a fantasy standpoint, it’s a slight downgrade for Ward. Camden Yards sis a less appetizing ballpark for right-handed power hitters, despite recent changes to end the “Walltimore” era in left field. While the Orioles’ lineup is unquestionably stronger than the Halos’, Ward likely hits lower in the order than he would have in Anaheim, which could cap his counting-stat upside in the short term. He’s a top-40 range outfielder heading into fantasy drafts next spring.

Ward is obviously a fine enough regular, having hit .228/.317/.475 with 36 homers and 103 RBI last season. Still, giving up on Rodriguez’s potential when they could have more easily signed a veteran bat suggests that the Orioles just don’t feel very good about his outlook. Ward, who has one year left of arbitration before free agency, figures to step in as Baltimore’s left fielder, leaving two outfield spots and some DH time for Colton Cowser, Dylan Beavers, Tyler O’Neill and anyone else who might emerge (Heston Kjerstad?). It’s a bit of a downgrade for his fantasy value; Baltimore’s a worse ballpark for right-handed hitters, and while the Orioles should have a better lineup than the Angels, Ward figures to hit lower than he would have with the Halos.

20 times in major league history has a player hit at least 35 homers with an OPS less than .800. Incredibly enough, the Angels outfield could add two to that total this season, as Ward has 36 homers with a .792 OPS and Jo Adell has 35 with a .778 OPS. But those are still solid enough campaigns, particularly with offense down some from when most of the previous such seasons took place. And neither OPS compares to that of Dave Kingman’s 1986, when he finished with 35 homers and a .686 OPS.

Ward got the Angels on the board and provided all of the run support that they would need with his 410-foot (103.8 mph EV) solo shot off of Germán Márquez in the second inning. If you look past the poor batting average, the 31-year-old slugger is having a very productive season for fantasy purposes, slashing .228/.316/.472 with career-highs of 34 homers and 101 RBI to go with four stolen bases.

Ward’s two solo shots brought home the only two runs for the Angels in this one as the rest of their lineup was stymied by Brandon Woodruff and the Brewers’ bullpen. That brought Ward up to 33 home runs and an even 100 RBI on the season, each career-highs by a decent margin.

It seemed unimaginable that Ward would return to Los Angeles’ lineup after just two games when he collided with the left-field wall over the weekend resulting in a scary-looking cut above his eye that required stitches. The 31-year-old may be limited to DH for a couple games, but it’s remarkable that he’s back in the lineup so quickly after a major injury scare.

Ward will sit out his second straight game as he continues to recover from a scary-looking collision with the left-field wall at Daikin Park that required stitches to address a laceration above his right eye. The 31-year-old told reporters he’s feeling better and is expected to hit off a batting tee and play catch during pregame warmups. It’s possible he’s ready to return at some point this week, but that decision is ultimately up to the Angels medical staff.

Ward was bleeding profusely on the field after suffering the injury and had to be carted off. He did not sustain any damage to his eye, though the cut may require stitches. Montgomery did not speculate on whether Ward would also be evaluated for a concussion or not. While it sounds like he was able to avoid significant injury after the scary collision, the Angels should have another update on his status and a clear timeline for his return at some point on Monday. Fantasy managers should have a contingency plan in place in the event that he’s unable to go.

Ward was tracking a line drive off the bat of Ramon Urias in the eighth inning when he crashed face first into the metal on the scoreboard. It’s unclear where exactly he took the brunt of the damage, but he was bleeding profusely and immediately called for medical attention, ultimately getting carted off the field. He’ll head for further evaluation and treatment. Look for the Angels to provide an update on the 31-year-old slugger’s status as soon as more information becomes available.

Ward blasted his 29th homer of the season off Shohei Ohtani in the second inning. The 31-year-old also drew a couple of walks to push his slash to .236/.318/.496 in 2025. When he’s hot, he’s hot. There’s just such large spans where Ward is anything but.

The White Sox carried a 5-0 lead into the sixth inning of this one, but it was all downhill after that. They entered the ninth inning tied at five runs apiece but got to work as Nolan Schanuel smacked a one-out double off of Tyler Alexander. Mike Trout was then walked intentionally, setting the stage for Ward’s heroics. After a six-pitch battle, he swatted a 397-foot (103.1 mph EV) three-run shot that sent the Angels’ home faithful into a frenzy. Ward also had an RBI single in the sixth inning, finishing the day 2-for-5 with four RBI. On the season, he’s now slashing .230/.305/.483 with 26 homers and 82 RBI.

The Angels fought back against Jesús Luzardo after falling behind early to tie this game in the fifth inning. Ward would eventually put them ahead with his homer in the seventh and they’d hang on to that lead. It was Ward’s 22nd home run of the season, which leads his team and is tied with Byron Buxton for 12th-most in the entire league.

Ward hit a solo homer off Patrick Corbin in the fifth inning, but he needed it to be an eight-run homer for it to matter since the Angels were trailing 9-1. The 31-year-old now has 21 roundtrippers, 64 RBI and a .785 OPS on the season.

All of Ward’s hits were singles, and none of them left the bat harder than 91 mph, but they count all the same in the scorebook. Ward had a rough month of June, hitting .204/.312/.430, but he has come out of the gates hot in July, going 9-for-23 in his first six games. Perhaps his bat is waking up with the California heat.
