Wheeler who suffered from a blood clot in his shoulder and underwent thoracic outlet surgery to remove a rib one month ago today. The surgery has a 6-8 month recovery window, and Dombrowski thinks Wheeler will be on the short end of that. Whether that means Wheeler’s stuff comes all of the way back obviously isn’t something we’ll know until March at the earliest.

Wheeler is expected to miss 6-8 months following the procedure, putting his potential return sometime early next season. The 35-year-old veteran workhorse faces an uncertain path back to fantasy ace status given the checkered history of pitchers who’ve previously undergone the surgery.

It’s a devastating development for one of the most impactful pitchers in the fantasy landscape. The 35-year-old veteran ace, who finishes with a stellar 2.71 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 195/33 K/BB ratio across 149 2/3 innings (24 starts), will be sidelined into the early stages of next spring following the surgery, which comes on the heels of a procedure earlier this week to remove a blood clot from his shoulder.

The blood clot was near Wheeler’s right shoulder. The Phillies didn’t announce any timeline for Wheeler to return to pitching. The ace was placed on the injured list on Saturday after pitching against the Nationals on Friday.

Wheeler is headed back to Philadelphia for further evaluation and testing after hitting the injured list earlier this weekend with a blood clot in his right shoulder. There should be a clearer timetable for his return at some point in the coming days and fantasy managers should brace for the possibility that the 35-year-old ace requires an extended absence.

How long Wheeler will be out is still unknown, but this is obviously a very serious injury that Philadelphia will need to take every necessary precaution with. The right-hander was scheduled to start against the Mariners next week, but Philadelphia will need to make that change, and likely back off their planned six-man rotation. There should be more information on Wheeler in the coming days, if not sooner.

Wheeler gave up four hits, walked two and struck out six. The 35-year-old right-hander, who has been dealing with shoulder stiffness, threw 97 pitches and was effective against the Nationals Friday. Wheeler has a 2.71 ERA and 195/33 K/BB ratio in 149 2/3 innings this year. He’s lined up to face the Mariners at home next week.

Wheeler gave up three hits, walked three and struck out seven. The only runs against the 35-year-old right-hander came on a Joc Pederson two-run home run in the first inning. Wheeler complained of shoulder soreness earlier this week and had his start pushed back to Sunday, which is why it’s noteworthy that he was removed after only 83 pitches. It’s certainly possible the Phillies decided to do that in an abundance of caution, though the situation continues to be worth monitoring. Wheeler is lined up to face the Nationals on the road next weekend.

Wheeler “complained of some shoulder stiffness,” so the team sent him for an MRI. The results came back clean, so the team is opting to just give him a little extra rest. Wheeler still being scheduled to start is a good sign, but this is certainly a situation to monitor.

Wheeler worked two scoreless innings before Colt Keith took him deep for a solo homer to put the Tigers on the board in the third. Kerry Carpenter followed two batters later with a solo shot to make it two runs in the inning. Wheeler would start the seventh as the leadoff man reached on an error. Javier Báez followed with a two-run shot to knock Wheeler from the game at 98 pitches with ten strikeouts. The 35-year-old right-hander will take a 2.64 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and a 182/28 K/BB ratio across 139 2/3 innings into a start against the Rangers in Texas on Friday.

Wheeler gave up five hits, walked two and struck out eight. The 35-year-old right-hander was staked to a 2-0 lead, but got into trouble in just the second inning. After a Giancarlo Stanton single to start the inning, Wheeler hit back-to-back batters to load the bases with no outs. The Yankees went on to score four runs in the inning and Wheeler took his fourth loss of the season. He’s lined up to face the Tigers at home next weekend.

The game started with Wheeler allowing a solo home run to Jarren Duran, but the 25-year-old settled down quickly. He struck out 10 and didn’t walk a single batter while registering a 37 percent whiff rate and 30 percent CSW. It’s just another game of brilliance for Wheeler, who will face the Yankees this weekend.

Wheeler gave up three of his runs in the second inning, with two of those coming on a two-run blast by Jackson Merrill. He finished the first half with a 2.36 ERA, 154/26 K/BB ratio and 9-3 record over his 122 innings. Wheeler will get a chance to pitch in the All-Star Game in Atlanta on Tuesday, and then face off against the Angels to begin the second half.

Wheeler coughed up a solo home run to Austin Hays in the fifth inning, but was pretty much flawless apart from that. He had 21 whiffs on the day with a 40 percent CSW. He did a tremendous job locating the fastball up in the zone and got plenty of whiffs on his sweeper low and away from righties. Wheeler will now take a 2.17 ERA into a start against the Padres next week. Obviously, he never leaves your lineup.

Wheeler authored a dominant performance on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park, limiting San Diego’s lineup to just six hits and one extra-base knock over eight stellar frames. The 35-year-old fantasy ace generated an eye-popping 19 swinging strikes, including nine on his fastball alone, to record his third double-digit strikeout performance of the year. He continues building a strong case to start the upcoming All-Star Game with a stellar 2.27 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 136/25 K/BB ratio across 107 innings over 17 starts. He’ll face the Reds on Sunday in his next outing.

In the first inning, Wheeler allowed a run on an infield single to Isaac Paredes. The Astros wouldn’t score again, but it was enough for Wheeler to pick up a loss. Seems like baseball may be an unfair sport sometimes. Wheeler did walk three and gave up four hits, but he was certainly good enough for a win. The offense behind him was not. He’ll take a 2.55 ERA into his first start of July; scheduled for Tuesday against the Padres.

The Mets did manage to make Wheeler work hard despite not scoring a run. They loaded the bases in the first and put someone on base in every inning he pitched. Wheeler got his as well, striking out six of seven batters he faced in the middle innings. Yet, all that drove his pitch count to 98 through five and he didn’t come back out for the sixth. This was only the third time all season Wheeler was unable to complete six innings. His next start is scheduled to come on the road against the Astros.

Wheeler gave up four hits, walked none and struck out nine. It was a walk in the park for Wheeler against the Blue Jays. He struck out nine in a game where the Phillies never trailed on the scoreboard. Wheeler has a 2.76 ERA and 110/19 K/BB ratio in 88 innings this year. He’s lined up to face the Mets at home next weekend.

He left with a one-run lead, but it was blown by Matt Strahm in the eighth. Wheeler had a little extra velocity tonight after missing a turn for the birth of his child, averaging 96.6 mph with his fastball. He got 17 missed swings, including nine on his 42 fastballs, and he struck out seven. He’ll probably make his next start Sunday against the Blue Jays.

It’s official. Rookie sensation Mick Abel and struggling southpaw Jesús Luzardo will take the ball on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, to close out a three-game series against the Cubs. Wheeler has been away from the club on paternity leave over the past few days, but was able to throw a bullpen session on Sunday, and is good to go for Monday’s opener in Philadelphia.

Thomson added that Wheeler, who has been on paternity leave since Wednesday, is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday, but will need some extra time before he’s ready to take the ball again. Technically, the club will need to transfer him off the paternity list at some point this weekend, but that will merely be a procedural move. Fantasy managers should anticipate him being ready to take the ball early next week against the Cubs.

The 34-year-old right-hander punched out six batters on the night while issuing four free passes. After three scoreless frames to open the game, the Braves got to him for four runs in the fourth inning — including a two-run blast off the bat of Ozzie Albies. Wheeler then issued a pair of one-out walks before exiting in the sixth inning and both runners ultimately came around to score. He generated 14 swings and misses on 107 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 25 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he carries a 2.96 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and a 94/18 K/BB ratio (76 innings) into Tuesday’s battle against the Blue Jays in Toronto.

It’s the fourth straight start in which Wheeler has allowed exactly two runs and, dating back to last year, the 10th in a row in which he’s given up precisely one homer (Yandy Díaz came through against him tonight). Wheeler will take a 3-1 record and a 3.35 ERA into his next start Sunday against Cleveland. We’ll guess that Kyle Manzardo delivers the homer in that one.

Eric Wagaman’s homer in the sixth did the damage, as Wheeler continued his streak of allowing exactly one homer in every start this season. It’s just the second time in his career that Wheeler has struck out so many batters. His high is 14, which he established against the Rays four years ago. Because of the homers, Wheeler’s ERA sits at 3.73, but he has an exceptional 41/6 K/BB in 31 1/3 innings over five starts. He’ll face the Mets next.
