Yelich’s original injury designation with hamstring tightness, but imaging revealed the strain. The 34-year-old will be out for at least the next week-plus, and it seems more likely than not this will be a longer stint on the injured list than that minimum stint. Greg Jones has called up to take Yelich’s spot on the roster.

Yelich was unable to continue after the fifth inning due to the injury, and manager Pat Murphy said after the game that there would likely be further bad news here. If Yelich lands on the IL, Jeferson Quero could be called up, allowing the Brewers to use Gary Sánchez at DH fairly regularly.

No word yet on what occurred, but Yelich was lifted for pinch-hitter Gary Sanchez in the fifth inning of a one-run ballgame, which is never a good sign. Expect Brewers’ skipper Pat Murphy to provide an update on Yelich’s status after the game if we don’t hear anything before then.

The Brewers are going righty-heavy Tuesday, which makes sense because they’re facing one of the toughest lefties in baseball in Garrett Crochet. That means that not only Yelich will sit, but Brice Turang will also get his first day of rest of the season as well. Luis Matos will be the designated hitter, and David Hamilton gets the start at second base.

Yelich has only one home run so far this season, and the exit velocities have been down, but he’s still slashing .395/.439/.579, so nobody is mad about that. At 34 years old, some of the power may be fading from Yelich’s game, but it’s too early to call that for sure.

Yelich came through with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, poking a seeing eye-single into right field to put Milwaukee ahead for good in a rare low-scoring affair at American Family Field. He finished 2-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. The 34-year-old veteran is off to a strong start, hitting .381 (8-for-21) with one homer and one steal through six contests this season.

The Brewers entered the home half of the eighth inning on Sunday trailing 7-3. They went to work though as they loaded the bases with one out and then Brice Turang delivered an RBI single to cut into that deficit. That’s when the White Sox called upon their closer, Seranthony Dominguez. He got William Contreras to pop out for the second out, but Luis Rengifo followed with a two-run single and then Yelich pinch-hit for Gary Sánchez and clobbered a 421-foot (111.1 mph EV) three-run shot that gave the Brewers their first lead of the day. He’s off to an outstanding start to the season, hitting .600 (6-for-10) with a homer, five RBI and a stolen base.

Yelich will get a breather for Sunday and also with left-hander Anthony Kay on the bump for Chicago. William Contreras will operate as the designated hitter with Jeferson Quero getting the start behind the plate.

Yelich is 34, mostly serves a DH now and has a history of back troubles, but he still likes stealing bases, having finished with 28, 21 (in 73 games) and 16 the last three years. The Brewers were 7-for-7 stealing as a team tonight. Yelich was actually the lone player with one, while Garrett Mitchell, Joey Ortiz and David Hamilton all swiped two bags apiece against Reese McGuire.

Yelich did his damage during a seven-run uprising in the third inning, crushing a 2-2 changeup from Dane Acker for a 398-foot (102.9 mph EV) three-run shot that increased the Brewers’ lead to 11-1. Yelich struck out in each of his other three plate appearances in the ballgame. He has had a very rough spring overall at the plate, hitting just .130 (3-for-23) with a pair of homers, four RBI and a 13/6 K/BB ratio.

Break out the bubble wrap. With three weeks left in spring training we’ve seen everything we need to from Yelich already. The 34-year-old veteran figures to come at a discount as a utility-only option in fantasy drafts this spring, especially considering his checkered health history. His 150 games last year were his highest single-season total since 2022. There’s a strong possibility last year was the high-water mark from a production standpoint but forecasting 20 homers and at least 15 stolen bases doesn’t seem outlandish.

Milwaukee had some scoring chances, but they were unable to mount a serious comeback effort after falling behind right away when Cubs outfielder Ian Happ connected for a three-run homer in the opening frame. Yelich was the lone Brewers hitter to reach base safely multiple times as they were shut out at Wrigley Field by Chicago starter Matthew Boyd and a quartet of relievers. They’ll need to get their bats going again in Saturday’s decisive Game 5 showdown in Milwaukee if they’re going to keep their season going.

Yelich’s first game as a leadoff hitter can be qualified as a success, even if it comes in an extra-inning loss. His single to center in the second pushed his RBI total to 102, and the four-reach game increased his on-base percentage to .346. Long story short, it seems likely that this isn’t the last time we see Yelich hit leadoff in 2025.

Yelich has been moved up to the top of Milwaukee’s batting order with Jackson Chourio hitting fifth and Sal Frelick moved down to the fifth spot. The 33-year-old has been on a roll lately, batting .296 (8-for-27) with one homer and four RBI over his last seven games.

Yelich got the scoring started in the home half of the first inning with an RBI double off of Caden Dana that plated Jackson Chourio. He then chased Dana from the game with a 409-foot (103.4 mph EV) two-run shot in the fourth inning that increased the Brewers’ lead to 5-0. The 33-year-old outfielder is having an outstanding season in the middle of the Brewers’ lineup, slashing .267/.346/.467 with 29 homers, 99 RBI and 16 stolen bases.

Yelich’s home run was his 28th of the year and first in four games since returning from a five-game absence due to a back injury. Yelich is hitting .267 with an .811 OPS and 95 RBI this year as he looks to put his back issues behind him and finish the season strong.

Yelich rejoins Milwaukee’s lineup following an extended five-game absence due to lower back soreness. It’s an extremely encouraging development that the 33-year-old veteran managed to avoid a trip to the injured list given his lengthy history of back issues. He’s batting cleanup on Monday night when the Brewers face Rangers southpaw Jacob Latz at Globe Life Field.

“We’ll see,” Yelich said when asked about potentially pinch-hitting Sunday in Pittsburgh. The 33-year-old, who has battled back problems for several years, is dealing with renewed soreness but was able to take swings earlier this weekend. That’s a step forward, though he’s not ready for game action yet. A clearer update should come before Monday’s matchup with the Rangers.

Yelich was able to take swings before the game though, which is an encouraging sign. It’s possible that he could return to action on Sunday, but it’s going to depend on how he feels in the morning. Fantasy managers should be sure to check his status prior to Sunday’s series finale.

The Brewers hold a comfortable lead on the top spot in the National League, so there’s no reason to rush Yelich back into action here. They’re going to take it day-to-day and make sure that he’s feeling well enough to go as opposed to rushing him back and risking further aggravation. Jake Bauers will function in his place as the team’s designated hitter on Friday evening and will bat seventh against Johan Oviedo and the Pirates.

Yelich has dealt with persistent back issues throughout his career, and underwent back surgery last summer, so there’s some legitimate cause for concern here. It sounds like a precautionary measure, but he’ll presumably undergo further evaluation to determine the severity of the issue. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day heading into Thursday’s series finale. It’ll be Jackson Chourio, who was originally sitting out for precautionary reasons with hamstring stiffness, entering the lineup at DH in his place.

Yelich doubled to lead off the top the seventh inning and scored Milwaukee’s first run on a groundout to tie the game. He then took Jeff Hoffman deep for a solo homer in the ninth inning, going back-to-back with Jackson Chourio to put the Brewers on top. The 33-year-old outfielder is hitting .270/.351/.470 with 27 homers, 81 runs scored, 92 RBI, and 15 steals across 555 plate appearances.

Yelich, who entered in a little 3-for-27 drought, had the three hardest-hit balls in the game tonight: a 110.5-mph single off Logan Webb, a 106.5-mph, 384-foot lineout to center off Webb and a 102.8-mph single off Spencer Bivens. Seems like a good sign.

Yelich is up to 25 home runs on the year now. The 33-year-old outfielder hit two solo home runs on Friday. Yelich tied the game 1-1 with a home run in the second inning and put the Brewers up 9-8 with a home run in the sixth inning. He’s hitting .272 with an .825 OPS and 86 RBI this season.

Yelich took Yohan Ramirez out of the park in the fifth inning to give Milwaukee a 6-0 lead and Yelich his 23rd homer of the season. He also drew a walk to push his OPS on the season to just a tick above .800. It’s not the MVP version, but it’s pretty darn good.

It’s the second time this season that the Brewers have put together a winning streak of 10 games or longer, which is incredibly impressive. Yelich singled in the first inning, but wound up getting stranded at third base. He then tagged left-hander Andrew Heaney for a 395-foot (104.7 mph EV) solo shot in the third inning that gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish. With his two-hit attack, the 33-year-old outfielder is now slashing .259/.338/.446 with 22 homers, 75 RBI and 15 stolen bases on the year.

Sal Frelick is also on the bench with lefty Sean Manaea taking the ball for the Mets in this one. It’s a rare off day for Yelich, who has managed to avoid any extended absences this season, splitting time between right field and DH. The 33-year-old veteran is hitting .247 (19-for-77) with two homers and one steal in 19 games since last month’s All-Star break.

Yelich got the scoring started in the contest with an RBI infield single with two outs in the third inning, sparking a four-run uprising that would also see him score on a two-run single by Andrew Vaughn. Yelich also drew a walk in the seventh inning and raced around to score on Isaac Collins’ two-run single. The 33-year-old outfielder is now slashing .261/.343/.446 with 21 homers, 74 RBI and 15 stolen bases (in 20 attempts) in what has been a very strong under-the-radar campaign.
