Zastryzny has been out of action since the beginning of July because of a stress reaction in his ribs. He’ll likely need to make a handful of appearances, and he could be an option against left-handed hitters before the end of August.

It may seem inconsequential, but Zastryzny has done an outstanding job in his relatively minor role as a left-handed specialist this season with a sparkling 2.03 ERA across 13 1/3 innings (15 appearances). His absence makes it a priority for Milwaukee to add some additional left-handed relief depth at this week’s trade deadline.

Zastrzyzny will pass the baton to rookie Quinn Priester for a bulk relief appearance after facing a couple lefties at the top of Baltimore’s lineup. The 33-year-old southpaw has worked a pair of scoreless innings for the Brewers since being acquired last Friday in a trade with the Yankees. It’s not a situation where fantasy managers will be able to extract a ton of value.

The 33-year-old southpaw spent the 2024 season in the Brewers’ organization, so they are very familiar with his body of work. He appeared in 13 games at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for the Yankees, registering a 4.50 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 12/0 K/BB ratio over 12 innings of work.
