Fry underwent surgery to repair a deviated septum and fractured nose and missed the postseason after being hit in the face by a fastball from Tarik Skubal. Jones will likely be a platoon outfielder for Cleveland in 2026, while Festa should again work in the middle innings.

All three players now free agents. Brennan underwent surgery to repair the UCL in his left elbow back in May, but should be ready to go early in the 2026 season. Both Hentges and Enright will likely see non-roster interest to help needy bullpens.

Cleveland’s decision to move on from Enright qualifies as a surprising one since he posted a strong 2.03 ERA and 30/12 K/BB ratio across 31 innings over 27 appearances last season in his first taste of the majors. The 28-year-old reliever, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, figures to draw some interest on waivers in the coming days.

Vogt received 17 first-place votes to edge John Schneider, who got 10 first-place votes to finish second. Dan Wilson came away with a pair of first-place votes and Alex Cora also received one to finish third and fourth, respectively. The 41-year-old skipper, who helped guide the Guardians to an improbable late-season comeback to wrestle the AL Central division crown from Detroit this past season, earns the honor for the second straight season, joining Bobby Cox, Kevin Cash and Pat Murphy as the only repeat winners since 1983. He’s gone 180-143 (.557) in two seasons at the helm in Cleveland.

Passan adds that Ortiz was arrested earlier this weekend, while Clase is not currently in custody. The pair could face up to 65 years in prison if convicted on all charges, which include fraud, conspiracy, and bribery. Prosecutors allege that Ortiz was paid $5,000 for throwing an intentional ball June 15, with Clase receiving the same amount for facilitating it. The indictment also claims they repeated the scheme on June 27, earning $7,000 apiece. The pair of Guardians pitchers were placed on administrative leave in late July amid MLB’s ongoing sports-betting investigation and both appear highly unlikely to ever pitch in the majors again. A final decision on their status won’t come until the criminal proceedings play out. We’ll have updates on the developing situation as it unfolds.

Hernández, who spent much of 2020-24 in the majors with the Royals, made five appearances for the Guardians in the second half, allowing three runs in seven innings. He has a lifetime 5.14 ERA in 25 starts and 166 relief appearances.

It’s notable that all three finalists are former catchers with Vogt checking in as one for the second consecutive campaign after guiding Cleveland to an improbable late-season comeback to wrestle the AL Central division crown from Detroit. Schneider finds himself among the finalists for the first time in his six seasons at the helm while Dan Wilson is one in just his second year as Seattle’s skipper. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, November 11.

Barstad, a former Marlins prospect, will spend a second year in the Guardians organization after hitting .208/.290/.309 in 70 games in Double-A in 2025. He’ll likely compete for a job as Cooper Ingle’s backup in Triple-A.

Clase is on non-disciplinary paid leave and will not be allowed to take part in the winter-ball festivities. He and Luis L. Ortiz are both being investigated for potential ties into sports-betting, and there’s no timetable for either to return to the mound at this point.

The 24-year-old southpaw has spent the first seven seasons in his minor league career in the Guardians’ organization, and he’ll stay there for at least another year. In 2025 he registered a scintillating 1.83 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and a 70/20 K/BB ratio over 69 innings between High-A Lake County and Double-A Akron. Don’t be surprised if he winds up debuting with the Guardians at some point during the 2026 campaign.

Heyman adds that Hedges will receive $500,000 in performance-based incentives. The 33-year-old backstop will return for his sixth season in Cleveland. He’s been a complete non-factor at the plate, but he’s remains a sublime defender from a pitch-framing perspective. He’ll serve as Bo Naylor’s primary caddy next season.

It’s been a long road back for Espino, who has barely pitched over the last four years due to persistent shoulder issues. The hard-throwing 24-year-old was arguably the top pitching prospect in baseball back in 2022 before injuries derailed his development. He returned to minor league game action in late September and will make up for lost time in the fall circuit. It’s challenging to forecast his future given the extended layoff, but his stuff has looked formidable in the brief glimpses we’ve gotten lately. He averaged 96.9 mph on his four-seam fastball in his AFL debut and generated five swinging strikes on 16 pitches. He’s a fascinating pitching prospect to monitor heading into next season.

Ramírez evened the score in the fourth inning as he lined a 3-2 offering from Jack Flaherty into right field to make it a 1-1 ballgame. He was then cut down attempting to steal second base. The 33-year-old superstar then reached on an error that allowed the Guardians to scratch closer with two runs in the eighth inning, but he was thrown out at second base trying to advance on a ball that got away from Will Vest. Ramírez will find himself squarely in the middle of the first round of fantasy drafts once again in 2026 after another unbelievably productive season.

Cecconi struck out three batters in the abbreviated outing while issuing one base on balls. He kept the Tigers off the board through the first two innings but allowed back-to-back one-out singles to Parker Meadows and Gleyber Torres in the third inning before turning the ball over to the bullpen — and Meadows ultimately scored against the Guardians’ bullpen. The 26-year-old hurler got six whiffs on 47 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 30 percent. He should have the inside track at a spot in the Guardians’ rotation to open the 2026 campaign.

DeLauter was making his MLB debut in as big a moment as one can have, and it didn’t get off to a good start. On his first chance in center, he dropped a flyball that certainly had some movement due to wind, but still was an obvious error. He drew a walk in his first plate appearance, however, and he made a huge throw to get Zack McKinstry out at third to prevent another run from scoring and kept the game 1-1. DeLauter will likely be back in the lineup against righties for as long as the Guardians are able to keep playing.

Valera took Casey Mize deep to give the Guardians a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The 24-year-old has shown flashes of why he was once widely considered one of the best prospects in baseball, but this was obviously the biggest hit of his (very) young career.

Naylor put the game to bed with a three-run shot that extended the lead from 3-1 to 6-1. The 25-year-old did almost nothing in the regular season at the plate, but he’s helped Cleveland get to within a game of the ALDS against Seattle.

Rocchio came up huge again not long after his three-run homer against the Rangers on Sunday helped the Guardians clinch the division. This one might have been bigger, as it kept Cleveland’s season alive, although it’s worth noting that the Guardians scored four more runs in the eighth. Rocchio and Cleveland will play a winner-moves-on game Thursday against Detroit, with the victor earning a trip to play Seattle on Saturday.

Bibee issued a pair of walks, and the second free pass saw him leave the contest. The right-hander did strike out five, but after 87 pitches Cleveland decided to turn to their bullpen. It wasn’t a terrible start, and it certainly kept the Guardians in the must-win game. Bibee will likely start Game 3 in Cleveland against the Mariners if the Guardians win Thursday.

This will be the top prospects, MLB debut, and it couldn’t come in a bigger spot with the Guardians facing elimination. The guardians have easily the lowest team batting average of any team in the postseason, so manager Stephen Vogt has been pretty clear that DeLauter is playing for his offensive upside: “He can hit -- everywhere he’s ever been, he’s hit. We’re looking for offense. We have been all year. And this gives us a really good opportunity to have an impact bat.”

DeLauter’s major-league debut couldn’t come in a bigger spot with the Guardians facing elimination. The 23-year-old top prospect becomes just the sixth player ever to debut in the postseason. He’s talented enough from an offensive upside standpoint to provide an immediate spark for a Cleveland lineup that owns the lowest team batting average of any team in the playoffs. “He can hit -- everywhere he’s ever been, he’s hit,” said Guardians manager Stephen Vogt. “We’re looking for offense. We have been all year. And this gives us a really good opportunity to have an impact bat.”

Williams allowed a first-inning run because Johnathan Rodríguez misplayed a single in right. The second run came in the seventh, which started with a double and then a Jhonkensy Noel error; Noel, playing first base, had a hard shot go off his glove right to Brayan Rocchio at second base, but Noel slipped off the bag as he rushed back to handle the throw. It was originally ruled a single, but the change to an error came later. Williams was pulled after that, and the run scored on a sac fly off Hunter Gaddis, putting Williams in line for the loss in which had been a 1-1 game. It was still a stellar performance for Williams in his third straight start against the Tigers. He’s allowed a total of two earned runs over 17 innings between the three games.

He also committed a key error that helped allow the go-ahead run to score in the seventh, which was probably the bigger issue today than him failing to reach base against a dominant Tarik Skubal. Noel and Jonathan Rodríguez, who also committed an error in right, will probably head to the bench now with the Guardians set to face right-handers for the remainder of the series against the Tigers.

The Guardians will be going with their typical lineup against left-handed pitching, which means Rodríguez will start in right field, with Jhonkensy Noel starting at first base, Austin Hedges catching, and Angel Martinez in center field. Rodríguez is slashing .240/.309/.460 against lefties this season with two home runs in 55 plate appearances, so his presence doesn’t move the needle a huge amount.

Allen had a solid season, with a 4.25 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and a 122/62 K/BB ratio in 156 2/3 innings. However, with the Guardians not needing as many starting pitchers, they will carry guys like Matt Festa and Kolby Allard instead. Joey Cantillo should serve as the bulk reliever in this series.
