Kikuchi came out to warm up in the third inning, but he didn’t throw a pitch before the trainer came out, and the two left the field together. Kikuchi had thrown two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and walking one on the day. Mitch Farris is in the game to replace him and could also replace him in the starting rotation if Kikuchi has to go on the injured list.

It seems like a routine day off for Schanuel, who is hitting .271/.323/.390 in his last 15 games with one home run and 11 RBI. Vaughn Grissom will get the start at first base and bat seventh.

Farris has started three games in Triple-A this season, but he has been used only as a reliever with the Angels. He will likely continue to serve a multi-inning relief role, but he could be an option in the rotation if there is an injury or regression for a pitcher like Walbert Urena.

Lucchesi allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings for the Angels this season. However, he does have a 4.15 ERA in 436 1/3 career MLB innings, so there is a chance that some team tries to claim him on waivers.

Joyce is working his way back from last year’s shoulder surgery, and the Angels have been very deliberate with his rehab. Relievers don’t need as long to ramp up as starting pitchers do, but the team won’t rush the 25-year-old either. Expect him to begin slowly with a few appearances in the lower minors before building up to pitching on back-to-back days in Triple-A. That being said, it’s possible Joyce could be up with the Angels in 2-3 weeks, and with Jordan Romano no longer on the MLB roster and Kirby Yates struggling on his own rehab assignment, there is a chance for Joyce to emerge as a late-inning option for a team that desperately needs one.

Soriano has objectively been as good as any pitcher in baseball, but he wasn’t that version Tuesday. He gave up a pair of homers; a solo homer to Colson Montgomery, and a two-run shot to Drew Romo. The command was an issues throughout, as he threw 57-of-97 pitches for strikes and issued three walks against six strikeouts. With the mediocre outing, Soriano’s ERA triples all the way to 0.84. He’ll look to rebound with a rematch against the White Sox on Monday.

As Ben Kenobi once said, now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time. Dunn was universally regarded as one of the premier young pitching prospects in baseball roughly a decade ago when the Mets made him the 19th-overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft. He never quite lived up to his lofty potential, mostly due to persistent shoulder injuries. He’ll get another shot in affiliated ball with the Angels at Triple-A Salt Lake.

Kochanowicz departed with a 5-1 lead in the seventh, but that went away as soon as the Angels bullpen got involved. Still, it was a nice outing for the lefty, who struck out five and walked one. Last year, he had four quality starts in 23 tries. This year, he already has three and two others in which he was pulled just one out shy of qualifying. He’s still not recommended in mixed leagues, but he’s definitely an improved pitcher. He’ll likely face the Mets on Sunday.

The first was a three-run shot from Munetaka Murakami, but since both runners were inherited, Pomeranz was charged with only two earned runs. Still, he’s now given up three homers in two days, which won’t help his chances for picking up saves in a wide-open Angels bullpen. He has an 8.74 ERA in 11 1/3 innings, and while it’d make sense for the Halos to stick with him, there’s the chance they’ll give him the Jordan Romano treatment.

O’Hoppe hit the injured list with a fracture in his left wrist over the weekend. The 26-year-old backstop suffered the injury when he was hit by a foul tip during Saturday’s game against the Royals. It’ll be a combination of veteran Travis d’Arnaud and Sebastian Rivero handling the catching duties in his absence.

Detmers struck out five and allowed one run through five before giving up a two-run homer to Bobby Witt Jr. in the sixth. He was still in line for the win at that point, but the Angels coughed up the lead in the ninth. This leaves Detmers with a 4.28 ERA after six starts, though it seems like he should be doing better with his 36/9 K/BB and three homers allowed in 33 2/3 innings. He’ll face the Mets next weekend.

The Angels already had a lefty in the game in Brent Suter, but they wanted to put in more of a power guy to face Caglianone’s power. What followed was a 109-mph homer. The Angels took another blown save in the 10th, as Joey Lucchesi, pitching with a one-run lead in the Angels debut, gave up a three-run homer to lose the game. The Halos’ pen is even more of a mess now with Jordan Romano gone. Maybe Kirby Yates or Ben Joyce will eventually fix things in the ninth, but no one seems trustworthy at the moment. If one absolutely had to roster a currently active Angels reliever, Sam Bachman, who gave up two runs while getting three outs tonight, is probably the best option.

Fermin will add a fresh arm to an Angels’ bullpen that has been knocked around lately. The 24-year-old hurler did a decent job in his first nine appearances at the Triple-A level this season, compiling a 3.27 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and a 16/9 K/BB ratio across 11 innings. He’ll function in middle relief for the Angels.

Anderson, 31, struggled in his nine appearances out of the Angels’ bullpen, posting a 5.94 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 12/8 K/BB ratio across 16 2/3 innings. There’s a chance that he could slip through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as extra pitching depth for the Halos at Triple-A Salt Lake.

With Logan O’Hoppe heading to the injured list with a fractured left wrist, Rivero will get an opportunity to share the catching duties with Travis d’Arnaud. The 27-year-old backstop was off to a slow start offensively at the Triple-A level, slashing just .239/.275/.283 with no homers, six RBI and a 6/3 K/BB ratio in 51 plate appearances. He can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Oof. O’Hoppe was pulled from Saturday’s game after he was hit by a foul tip and imaging confirmed the unfortunate diagnosis. No word yet on how long the Angels expect him to be sidelined for, but it’s going to be a significant amount of time. Travis d’Arnaud will share the load behind the plate with Sebastian Rivero while O’Hoppe is out.

Lucchesi was re-signed to a minor league contract a couple of weeks ago after he had been released and tested the open market. He’ll add another option to the middle of an Angels’ bullpen that’s desperate for anyone that can consistently get quality outs.

Ouch. Romano had been functioning as the Angels’ closer this season, though he gave up four runs in the eighth inning in mop up duty on Saturday night and that appears to have been the final nail in his coffin. Rather than simply pulling him from the closer’s role, they booted him from the roster entirely. That leaves the ninth inning wide open now with Sam Bachman perhaps the favorite for save chances in the interim until Kirby Yates or Ben Joyce return from the injured list.

Urena gave up just three hard-hit balls tonight, but one of those was a 111-mph homer. The bigger problem, though, was that he was simply all over the place. He now has a 13/10 K/BB over 11 1/3 innings in his four appearances this season. The Angels might send him down after this, especially since they won’t need a fifth starter next time through the rotation.

Ouch. Brought in with the Angels down 8-0. Romano gave up a single, a double, a walk, another single and a HBP before being pulled. Second baseman Adam Frazier replaced him before his pitch count could get too high and, as you might imagine, allowed both inherited runners to score. Just one of the three hits against Romano came in a hard-hit ball. It wasn’t the nightmare performance that the line suggests, but that doesn’t change the fact that his ERA now stands at 10.13. He’s still probably the favorite for saves in the Angels pen for now, but it wouldn’t take much at all to change that.

He was hit by a foul tip. This sounds like a day-to-day situation, but since the Angels don’t have much flexibility to send down someone and add a third catcher, they’ll probably put O’Hoppe on the IL if they think he’ll be unavailable for more than a day or two. Travis d’Arnaud replaced O’Hoppe, who was 0-for-3 on the night.

Grissom had the Angels’ only two extra-base hits of the night, with both doubles coming off Royals starter Noah Cameron. Grissom’s double in the seventh inning would kick-start the best offensive inning for the Angels on the night, and he eventually came around to score three batters later thanks to an RBI single by Zach Neto. These doubles were the first extra-base hits of the season for Grissom, who isn’t known for his power. There’s nothing to get too excited about here.

Kikuchi’s record now sits at 0-3 on the season. The veteran lefty got off to a strong start in this one, retiring the side in order in the first inning while keeping the Royals off the board until the fourth. Things came apart in the fourth frame for Kikuchi after he allowed two of the first three batters he faced to reach base, which led to Bobby Witt Jr. scoring on a fielder’s choice. The Royals would then string together four straight hits, including back-to-back doubles, to push their lead to 5-0. Kikuchi would pitch a scoreless fifth before exiting, but the damage had already been done. He’ll have a good chance to pick up his first win of the season next Wednesday when he takes the mound against the White Sox.

Moncada, a switch-hitter, has now found himself on the bench against three straight left-handers in favor of Oswald Peraza. If he’s now in a platoon situation, expect him to also sit out on Saturday against Cole Ragans. Otherwise, it’s possible that he’s dealing with an underlying physical issue. Fantasy managers may want to get him out of lineups for the weekend if possible.

Yates threw 11 of his 16 pitches for strikes, but both of the hits off of him were hard hits. He was also sitting 90.2 mph on his four-seam fastball, which is 2.6 mph down from where he was last season. It’s still early in his rehab, but he may need a few more outings to get back to a place where we can consider using him in fantasy leagues.

Schanuel, who is getting over an ankle problem that was bothering him earlier this month, is hitting a middling .239/.308/.380, but he’s up to 18 RBI in 23 games on the season. He’s already one-third of the way to his totals of 54 RBI in 147 games in 2024 and 53 in 132 games last year. There should be some mixed-league value here now that he’s back playing every day.

Soriano exited with a 3-0 lead after 84 pitches, but it disappeared in the top of the seventh before the Angels came right back with four in the bottom of the inning. So, no win for Soriano. He did bring his ERA down from 0.28 to 0.24. He settled for four strikeouts, but he generated 16 whiffs. He walked none and gave up just four hard-hit balls. He’ll face the White Sox next week.

Romano gave up two well-struck singles, but he also struck out two before getting Ernie Clement to ground out to end the game. Romano hasn’t had a save chance since blowing two games against the Yankees last week, but he has bounced back with two scoreless innings, striking out five of the eight batters he’s faced.

Manoah had been on the injured list with a right finger contusion for the last month, but this has also given the Angels a chance to continue to work with him and build up his arm strength. Manager Kurt Suzuki said that Manoah was “nearing a rehab assignment,” which could begin as soon as next week.
