The Rangers could instead try for Victor Caratini or Danny Jansen to share time with Kyle Higashioka, who was signed to a two-year, $13.5 million deal last winter. Higashioka hit .241/.291/.403 while starting 68 games behind the plate and 16 at DH last season.

Hoopii-Tuionetoa looked like a nice relief prospect when the Rangers traded him to the White Sox for Robbie Grossman in May 2024, but something went wrong; he didn’t pitch at all last season after getting placed on the restricted list, and the White Sox released him in July. Maybe getting back to his original organization will turn things around for him.

Bride reunites with new Rangers manager Skip Schumaker, who he previously played for in Miami during the 2024 campaign. The 29-year-old infielder got into 45 games last season between the Marlins and Twins, hitting .170 (19-for-112) with five RBI during that span. He represents a low-risk insurance policy at both corner infield spots after both Josh Jung and Jake Burger struggled to stay healthy this past season.

The Rangers clearly wanted to move on from the 35-year-old Semien after his offensive production dipped over the last two seasons. Nimmo was the far better hitter last season, slashing .262/.324/.436 with 25 home runs and 13 steals for the Mets. He did play some center field, but he’s been a league-average corner outfielder for most of his career and should get a chance to replace Adolis García for the Rangers. While he doesn’t have the ceiling that García does, García has also failed to reach that season over the past couple of seasons, and Nimmo has been a fairly consistent player. It’s a bit of a lateral move for the 32-year-old from a fantasy perspective heading into 2026.

Smith, who hit .251/.335/.366 with 10 homers in 563 plate appearances in 2025, has played pretty regularly against right-handers the last two years, but he hasn’t really had a spot of his own. That might change now. Semien’s departure also might lessen the chances of Josh Jung being dealt, since Smith having his own spot would take him out of the mix at third base. Of course, it’s still really early, and the Rangers, who non-tendered former All-Stars Adolis García and Jonah Heim, have made it clear they’re willing to make big changes.

It appears that just the two veterans are involved. Nimmo has full no-trade protection, but sources told The Athletic that he has agreed to waive it. Semien, 35, has three years and $72 million left on his contract, whereas the 32-year-old Nimmo is due $101.25 million over the next five years. Jon Heyman is reporting that the Mets are sending the Rangers $5 million to even up the salaries a bit. It seems like an odd deal for a Mets team with Jeff McNeil at second base and young infield talent ready to challenge him, but Semien remains a solid player and the Mets might be worried about Nimmo’s declining athleticism in left and on-base percentage.

Haggerty will stick around after being a relatively solid bench option for the Rangers in 2025. The 31-year-old can play the outfield and infield and will likely do the same in 2026.

Gray has yet to reach the big leagues and spent last season in Texas’ system, compiling a respectable 3.58 ERA and 89/27 K/BB ratio across 73 innings between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. The 30-year-old is merely organizational depth at this stage of his career.

García has been battling injuries the last few seasons and is entering the final year of his contract. He hit .227/.271/.394 last season with 19 home runs and 13 steals. His power production and batting average have fallen off from his 2023 high, and Jonah Heim also regressed back down to earth after his outstanding 2023 season. Passan notes that both of them could be non-tendered if a deal is not made.

It’s the second time deGrom has taken home the award in his career. The 37-year-old veteran ace wrapped up his first 30-start campaign since 2019 with a stellar 2.97 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 185/37 K/BB ratio across 172 2/3 innings of work. He was limited to just three late-season starts during the 2024 season while working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He’ll open next season as a top-10 range starting pitcher and an early-round selection in all fantasy drafts despite his lingering durability concerns.

Supak was a second-round pick in the 2014 MLB Draft and has yet to reach the big leagues. The 29-year-old hurler posted a solid 3.85 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 131/33 K/BB ratio over 128 1/3 innings over 26 starts between Double-A Friso and Triple-A Round Rock this past season. He’s merely organizational fodder at this stage of his career.

This was a given. Pederson struggled to a calamitous .181/.285/.328 slash line with nine homers, 26 RBI and two steals over 96 games in his Rangers debut. The 33-year-old’s track record suggests he’ll bounce back some next year and it’s hard to imagine things could get any worse.

Otañez, 28, had a 3.44 ERA and a 55/20 K/BB in 34 innings for the A’s in 2024, but he missed the start of last season with a shoulder impingement and never was able to contribute. If healthy, he’ll battle for a bullpen spot, but wildness has typically held him back.

MacIver, a longtime Rockies prospect, made his major league debut with the A’s last season and hit .186/.252/.324 in 111 plate appearances as a backup catcher. He has options remaining, so the Rangers are probably looking at him as Triple-A insurance, assuming that they carry on with their Kyle Higashioka-Jonah Heim combo behind the plate.

Hundley had been considered a favorite to land the Giants’ managerial job. Him pulling his name from consideration is likely the reason that the Giants moved on to other candidates — where they are now aggressively pursuing Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello. Expect Hundley to continue in his role as a special assistant to Rangers’ general manager Chris Young.

It’s a two-year pact for Cronin, who will spend all of next season rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. The 28-year-old righty spent all of this season pitching at the Triple-A level after compiling a respectable 4.35 ERA across 70 1/3 innings over 56 appearances for the Marlins back in 2024. He represents a low-risk gamble for the Rangers.

Heyman notes that Hundley spent a couple seasons as current Giants front office architect Buster Posey’s backup. The 42-year-old former catcher retired in 2020 after a 12-year career and has spent the last four seasons as a special assistant to Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young.

He’ll get a four-year contract. The writing had been on the wall that Schumaker was in line to take over once Bruce Bochy exited and it’s now official. The 45-year-old skipper spent two years managing the Marlins in 2023 and 2024 where he posted a 146-178 record and took home National League Manager of the Year honors in his first season at the helm. He joined the Rangers last November as a senior advisor to baseball operations.

Schumaker receives a four-year contract to take over at the helm following veteran skipper Bruce Bochy’s exit after three seasons. The 45-year-old was brought on last year as a senior advisor to baseball operations with the Rangers after spending the previous two years managing the Marlins where he posted a 146-178 (.451) record and took home the National League’s Manager of the Year Award in his first season with the club. He takes over a Texas roster entering a transitional phase after missing the postseason despite a plethora of veteran talent and some up-and-coming cornerstones.

The 27-year-old left-hander underwent surgery in June to repair a UCL injury in his left elbow. He underwent the internal brace procedure instead of the traditional Tommy John surgery, which is why his timeline to return is a bit quicker. Even on the conservative side, it sounds like he’ll be back with the Rangers before the All-Star break in 2026.

Eovaldi was shut down in late September with a right rotator cuff strain, but Young noted that injury is no longer a problem. It sounds like he may need to get the hernia dealt with though at some point over the offseason. The expectation is still that the 35-year-old hurler will be fully recovered and ready to go for the start of spring training.

The former Marlins’ skipper took a job with the Rangers in November as a senior advisor to baseball operations with the expectation that he could take over once Bruce Bochy’s run at the helm was over. While the Rangers haven’t officially announced anything, there are currently no external candidates being considered for the position, leading many to speculate that Schumaker will get the gig. The Marlins went 146-178 in two years with Schumaker as their manager from 2023-2024 — winning National League Manager of the Year honors in his first season as a big league manager in 2023.

Bochy has been offered a front office role with the club in an advisory capacity, according to a team statement. His likely departure comes after just three seasons in Texas after leading the franchise to a World Series title back in 2023. Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young told reporters Monday that while the club isn’t rebuilding, they plan to focus on youth amid “financial uncertainty,” and the sides decided to part ways due to the lack of a “clear picture” for next season. The latest development comes just a few hours after San Francisco fired manager Bob Melvin, seemingly paving the way for the veteran skipper to return to the Bay Area where he guided the franchise to three championships and spent 13 seasons at the helm.

This was a lingering issue for Burger that stems from an injury he suffered in mid-August. The first baseman received a cortisone injection for the wrist injury, “which gave him some relief, but when the anti-inflammatory effects ebbed, he could once again feel the tendon popping in and out of place for the final weeks of the season.” Injuries piled up for Burger this season, as he went to the IL three times with oblique, quadriceps, and wrist injuries. Assuming he heads into spring training healthy, Burger could be a solid value in fantasy baseball drafts, given how injuries derailed his 2025 season
