It’s getting to that point in the spring where teams are trying to get their rosters ready for Opening Day, so large batches of cuts are the norm. There are no major surprises in this group though. Jonah Bride could’ve possibly won a bench spot with a strong performance in the spring. Alexis Díaz will stay with the Rangers and try to work through his issues at the Triple-A level.

It’s likely that the decision came down to either Eovaldi or Jacob deGrom, so expect deGrom to get the nod in the Rangers’ home opener. Eovaldi is certainly deserving of the honor after posting a brilliant 1.73 ERA across 22 starts during the 2025 campaign.

The Rangers scored 13 runs in the third, making it an 18-2 game at that point. Nimmo was 3-for-14 with no homers this spring before the ridiculous showing today. He hit the ball hard every time up, and the homers were projected at 410 and 422 feet.

Eovaldi struck out five and walked none while dealing with some lengthy waits as the Rangers racked up 18 runs over the first three innings. He has a 4.11 ERA through four starts, and his stuff looks much like it did while he was going 11-3 with a 1.73 ERA in 22 starts before hurting his shoulder last season.

Smith played third base for the second time this spring. His other 12 starts have come at second, which is supposed to be his position this year, but the Rangers do want him to stay fresh at the hot corner in case they need him to take over for Josh Jung.

Pretty much everyone feasted on Padres pitching today, but McCutchen especially needs the hits after his late addition to the competition for a spot on the Rangers bench. He’s opened up 6-for-9 with three doubles and four walks.

Osuna has no extra-base hits this spring, but he does have six singles and five walks in 24 plate appearances, giving him a .458 OBP. He’s also 3-for-3 stealing bases. The Rangers figure to send him down instead of carrying him as a fourth outfielder, but he could be called up to serve as a starter if one of the guys ahead of him goes down.

Smith delivered an RBI double in the third inning that increased the Rangers’ advantage to 4-2. He then tacked onto that lead with a 427-foot (106.1 mph EV) two-run blast off of Jimmy Herget in the fifth inning. The versatile 28-year-old has been locked in at the plate this spring, hitting .387 (12-for-31) with three long balls, seven RBI and a stolen base.

Nimmo capped off a seven-run uprising in the third inning with a bases-clearing double. He’s still off to a slow spring start with his new ballclub, hitting just .214 (3-for-14) with zero homers and four RBI, but there’s no reason to doubt that he won’t be ready to go when the regular season kicks off.

Latz allowed three hits and three walks on the afternoon. The damage done against him all came in the opening inning as Mickey Moniak hit a sacrifice fly and Charlie Condon added a run-scoring single. Latz settled in nicely afterwards and kept them off the board for the next three innings. He got 14 swings and misses on 66 pitches on the day, posting a strong CSW of 36 percent. For the spring, the 29-year-old hurler holds an uninspiring 5.11 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 10/6 K/BB ratio across 12 1/3 innings.

The deal, which was agreed upon on Thursday, is official now that the 32-year-old hurler has passed his physical. He’ll try to ramp up quickly in an effort to be ready for Opening Day. Alexis Diaz was designated for assignment in a corresponding move on Friday.

There was some hope that Díaz could pitch his way into the Rangers’ bullpen plans this season, but he has allowed eight runs on three hits while walking four and striking out one in just 1 2/3 innings this spring. His numbers, both in the majors and Triple-A last season, were also bad, and he has never quite been able to recapture that 2022 season magic. He’s only 29 years old, so some team will undoubtedly give him another chance, but we wouldn’t bank on him being a fantasy-relevant closer any time soon.

Langford reached on a single off of J.T. Ginn in the opening inning, but was cut down attempting to stretch it into a double. He then capped off the Rangers’ six-run uprising in the second inning with a 424-foot (111.7 mph EV) three-run blast off of Ryan Magdic. The 24-year-old outfielder has been sizzling at the plate this spring, hitting .455 (10-for-22) with three homers, 10 RBI and a 3/2 K/BB ratio in 24 plate appearances.

The 25-year-old hurler racked up six strikeouts on the afternoon and didn’t walk a batter. All of the damage done against him came via the long ball with Max Muncy belting a solo homer in the opening frame and Henry Bolte adding another in the third. Leiter got 11 swings and misses on 57 pitches on the day — five of those on his slider — while posting a CSW of 30 percent. For the spring, he now sports a 4.50 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and a 12/3 K/BB ratio over 12 innings through his first four starts.

Quantrill got the win as Canada advanced to the WBC quarterfinals. It looked like James Paxton would get the save, but he was lifted after 2 2/3 scoreless innings and 49 pitches in order to keep him eligible to pitch Friday. Quantrill could start again if Canada makes the finals. If not, the veteran big leaguer will go back to trying to win a spot on the Rangers’ staff. He gave up seven runs over four innings in his two spring appearances before joining Team Canada.

Seager’s first-inning homer came off Cubs starter Cade Horton and was his first of the spring. The 31-year-old shortstop has topped 125 games just once in four seasons with the Rangers but he’s still managed to reach the 30-homer mark three times during that span. He’s a back-end starting shortstop for fantasy managers in shallow mixed leagues based on leaps by younger alternatives like Geraldo Perdomo and Jeremy Peña at the position.

Rocker is one of the more challenging pitchers to evaluate for fantasy purposes since he seems likely to open the year back at Triple-A Round Rock and has been all over the place from a performance standpoint in the big leagues over the past two years. The 26-year-old former top prospect looked outstanding in this relief outing, piling up 11 swinging strikes and averaging 96.4 mph on his sinker. It’s possible he’ll break camp in the big leagues as a swingman capable of gobbling up multiple innings but that would certainly limit his fantasy appeal.

It was a vintage deGrom outing as he scattered three baserunners and got his pitch count up to 43 (28 strikes) in his second Cactus League outings. The 37-year-old veteran fantasy ace generated nine swinging strikes and averaged a crisp 97.4 mph on his heater. The ever-present durability concerns remain, but few fantasy arms are more impactful on a per-start basis than deGrom. He’s a back-end SP1 in fantasy drafts this spring.

Jung is trending towards getting back into spring contests later this week after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 adductor strain back in late February. The power-hitting third baseman managed to play a career-high 131 games last year, but finished with just 14 homers.

Nimmo smacked a Randy Vásquez offering for an RBI triple in the second inning, increasing the Rangers’ early advantage to 2-0. That would be all of the offense that they would need in the ballgame. The 32-year-old outfielder also drew a walk, reaching base safely in two of his three plate appearances. He looks to be locked into the leadoff spot in the Rangers’ lineup to open the season, which should lead to ample opportunities to score runs for fantasy managers.

The 29-year-old hurler didn’t walk a batter or record a strikeout in the ballgame. The only hit that he allowed in the contest came on a leadoff double by Luis Campusano to open the third inning. Supak did not get a single swing and miss in 40 pitches on the day, registering a miserable CSW of only 20 percent. Supak has already been optioned out of big league camp and is expected to open the season in the rotation at Triple-A Round Rock.

Jose Caballero went 2-for-5 and homered for Panama. Both Panama and Colombia finished 1-3 in Pool A play, leaving Puerto Rico (2-0), Cubs (2-0) and Canada (1-1) still alive for the final two spots. Bergner, 28, signed with the Rangers last month after seven years in the Tigers system and joined Colombia after pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings this spring. He’ll be Triple-A pitching depth for Texas.

Otañez was competing for a spot in Texas’ bullpen after a shoulder injury limited him to only 5 1/3 MLB innings in 2025. Unfortunately, he allowed four runs on four hits in 2 1/3 innings so far this spring, so the Rangers will have him begin the season in Triple-A in the hopes of getting back on track.

Blanco was claimed off waivers from the Royals over the weekend, and he will begin his Rangers career at Triple-A. The 32-year-old remains a strong fourth outfielder for his solid defense and elite speed. He will likely be the first man called if any outfielder suffers an injury.

Carter’s first-inning blast against Angels starter Victor Mederos traveled 385 feet with a 108.3 mph exit velocity. The talent has never been in dispute — the bat speed, the athleticism, the power/speed blend all remain intact. The complication has been availability, as back, quad and wrist injuries have limited the 23-year-old former top prospect to just 108 combined games over the past two seasons. When he’s on the field, the skill set still hints at something dynamic. The question isn’t ability; it’s continuity. That tension keeps him in late-round flyer territory this spring — the kind of pick that can quietly outperform cost if the body finally cooperates.

Eovaldi struck out four and issued just one walk while building his pitch count to 68 (49 strikes) in his latest spring tune-up. The 36-year-old veteran has been quietly excellent on a per-start basis over the last three seasons since arriving in Texas, even as injuries have kept the volume in check. Those durability concerns naturally cap his realistic fantasy ceiling, but the underlying performance remains that of a high-end starter when he’s on the mound. He fits comfortably in the top-50 range among fantasy starters this spring — the type of calculated gamble where the risk is obvious, but the sky-high floor is equally tantalizing.

The 33-year-old southpaw is still in the process of recovering from Tommy John surgery and is targeting a return around mid-season. This was done on Sunday as a procedural move to clear a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for the addition of Dairon Blanco.

The 32-year-old speedster has hit .257/.312/.416 with seven homers, 34 RBI and 59 stolen bases over 285 plate appearances in parts of four big league seasons with the Royals. He’ll have a shot at earning a reserve spot on the Rangers’ Opening Day roster.

The 35-year-old backstop was scratched from the Rangers’ lineup on Saturday due to back spasms. It’s encouraging that he’s returning so quickly, but back injuries can tend to linger, so it’s a situation to monitor for Higashioka heading into the season.

Both runners he left on base in the fourth came around to score, hurting his ERA. Kumar Rocker hasn’t been very impressive, so Latz should have the edge for the fifth spot in the Texas rotation, at least initially. Cody Bradford might be a factor come May.
