Having fallen out of the Knicks’ rotation recently, Alvarado started Sunday’s regular-season finale and logged 34 minutes. Acquired from the Pelicans at a time when the Knicks were shorthanded on the perimeter, his opportunities may be limited during the playoffs. That said, Alvarado does not need much time to be a nuisance on the defensive end of the floor, so there may still be a role for him in the Knicks’ first-round series against the Hawks.

Among the players expected to be in the Knicks’ postseason rotation, McBride was one of the few to play credible minutes on Sunday. And to the delight of head coach Mike Brown and his staff, Deuce looked sharp in his 24 minutes on the court. Given the amount of time he missed following sports hernia surgery, that’s more important than the stat line that he recorded. The Knicks will face the Hawks in the first round, which begins next weekend.

Newell got the starting nod for Atlanta with the typical starters getting a rest night in Game 82. The rookie took advantage of the opportunity and recorded the first double-double of his young career. The Hawks’ first-round pick hasn’t played a significant role for them, but he still has plenty of upside and could take on more minutes in his second season. He likely won’t see the floor much during the playoffs, but he is still worth stashing in dynasty formats.

Hield has only made a few appearances since the Hawks acquired him, mostly during blowouts. However, with the Hawks resting their rotation players, Hield was able to supply plenty of offense off the bench in just 21 minutes. He isn’t going to be part of their rotation during the playoffs, but he is still a capable floor spacer. Unless the Hawks move him this offseason, he’ll likely remain in a limited role again next year.

The Hawks rested their core pieces for this game, which allowed Kispert to return to the starting unit. He provided plenty of offense, mostly from beyond the three-point line. Since they acquired him from the Wizards, Kispert has been a solid floor spacer, but he hasn’t been a large part of the rotation recently. He’ll be a depth option for Atlanta during the postseason, and he is certainly capable of getting hot and swinging a game.

This was his third-highest scoring game since he was traded to Atlanta, and it was enough to help them clinch a playoff spot. Towns recorded his league-leading 55th double-double of the season on Thursday, and he did so on 50 percent shooting from the field. Against the Celtics, KAT appeared to have a better feel for when to pop for jumpers and when to attack the basket in the two-man game, especially with Jalen Brunson. One game removed from recording a 30-point double-double in a win over the Hawks, Brunson recorded his third double-double in as many games on Thursday. Over his last three games, the Knicks’ point guard has been responsible for 34 assists and six turnovers. While Brunson is a more than capable scorer, the Knicks are at their best offensively when everyone plays a part in the action. If the Celtics were going to give up anything defensively on Thursday, it was going to be Josh Hart’s three-point attempts. Unfortunately for Boston, the strategy backfired, as he shot 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, including two fourth-quarter daggers. The 26 points were the most in a game for Hart since he scored 33 in a March 17 win over the Pacers.
