At this stage in his career, fantasy managers know what they’re going to get from Barnes. While his fantasy ceiling is limited, the floor is stable, and availability won’t be an issue. He finished Thursday’s victory a blocked shot shy of a complete stat line, but over the last two weeks, Barnes is ranked outside the top-200 in eight- and nine-cat formats. Even with his performance against the Thunder, fantasy managers can afford to leave Barnes on the waiver wire.

Wembanyama and Oklahoma City’s Chet Holmgren may not say much about a “rivalry” between them, but the matchups bring added juice whenever their teams meet. Wemby, who is still on a minutes restriction, recorded a double-double in just 25 minutes off the bench. The Spurs aren’t going to rush anything with their phenom, so Luke Kornet (six points, four rebounds, one assist and one block in 22 minutes) remains in the starting lineup. The lone negative for Castle on Christmas Day was the turnover count, as he was responsible for four. However, he shot the ball efficiently and led the Spurs in assists. Limited to six points in Tuesday’s win over the Thunder, Fox was outstanding in Thursday’s rematch. Finishing with a game-high 29 points, he shot 9-of-11 from the field in the first half. Some of Fox’s teammates took over in the second half to help San Antonio move to 3-0 against the Thunder this season. Castle hit the metaphorical turbo button in the second half, knocking down 5-of-6 shots from the floor during that span, helping topple the injury-riddled Thunder with an impressive scoring display. The 21-year-old second-year guard has recorded at least 17 points in seven consecutive contests since December 8. He’s made a noticeable leap this season, averaging 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.4 blocks through 20 games. Through three games since returning from an MCL sprain, Young has played 20, 26 and 31 minutes. His season high for minutes allowed him to have his second-most assists in a game this season, with the most coming in his final game before injuring his knee. He had 17 assists in that game, which was also against Chicago. Young is getting closer to playing a full workload consistently, and the most impressive part is that he has a total of six turnovers since returning. Last season, he averaged 4.7 per game. It seems unlikely that he’ll continue to keep the turnovers in check, but if he can at least keep them down, he’ll become far more valuable in category formats.

Johnson fell one rebound shy of a triple-double just two days after finishing one assist shy of one. Both were also one-possession losses to the Bulls. In the three games Trae has played since returning, Johnson is averaging 34.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game. That may not hold, but he clearly won’t see his value tank with Young back.

Fox served as San Antonio’s primary offensive catalyst, delivering a robust all-around effort in a stat sheet-stuffing performance. He knocked down 5-of-7 from three-point range and shot 52.6 percent from the floor on a team-leading 19 attempts. The 28-year-old guard has been in a little bit of a rut from a scoring standpoint over the past week so it was a positive sign to see him get back on track in this one. Young showed few signs of rust in just his second game back since October 29 due to a knee injury, heating up down the home stretch of a high-scoring slugfest. He buried a clutch three-pointer with 23 seconds remaining to pull it back to a one-possession game, then had a chance to force overtime on the final shot of regulation, but his fallaway 16-footer came up short. It’s possible Atlanta will keep a governor on his workload for the next few games but he remains an elite scoring threat even in that scenario. This was the second straight game that Castle put up this exact stat line. Seriously. The only difference was one fewer field goal attempt and one fewer free throw attempt in this one. Young was understandably a little rusty in his first game action since October 29. Young was assigned to the G League for a practice on Tuesday and has now been recalled to Atlanta, with the team set to practice on Wednesday. If Young’s knee responds well to a practice with the team, he could certainly make a return this weekend. They have a back-to-back on Thursday and Friday, so he’d likely only play in one of those games if he’s made available by then. If not, they host the Bulls on Sunday. Young may have his minutes limited in his first game back, but he has never come off the bench in his career, so Nickeil Alexander-Walker will likely return to a reserve role when the time comes. However, NAW saw plenty of usage early on before Young’s injury, so having Trae back in the lineup shouldn’t decimate his value. However, NAW, Dyson Daniels and Jalen Johnson will all take a slight usage hit when last season’s assists leader returns.
