Initially questionable for Game 5, Huerter is now officially out. Given Detroit’s lack of consistent perimeter shooters, Red Velvet’s absence could be more impactful than many expect, even with limited playing time. The Pistons will need their “others” on the perimeter to offer more consistent shooting to supplement Cade Cunningham.

While Jalen Duren had been the poster boy for the Pistons’ struggles in this series, Cunningham seemed to takeover the mantle from Duren in Monday’s Game 4 loss to the Magic. The 24-year-old superstar had eight turnovers and was 7-of-23 from the field as the No. 1 seed Pistons fell behind 3-1 in the series. It was the third consecutive game where Cunningham had at least seven turnovers, tying James Harden’s playoff record. Cunningham and the Pistons will have their backs against the wall as they try to avoid elimination at home in Game 5 on Wednesday.

Cunningham carried the Pistons’ offense, but also was just 3-of-10 from behind the three-point line and had nine turnovers. Detroit is hoping to avoid falling behind 3-1 in Game 4 on Monday.

Bane helped the Magic build a lead in this game. He made his seventh three-pointer at the beginning of the fourth quarter to put the Magic up by 11. Orlando squandered what was a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter before coming back and winning anyway. Game 4 against the Pistons is on Monday.

Banchero was excellent in the Game 3 win over the Pistons on Saturday, especially in the biggest moments of the game. With a five point lead and less than a minute remaining in regulation, the 23-year-old power forward shot a three-pointer from the top of the key that bounced in after hitting the back of the rim and going straight up. It put the game away for Orlando as they took a 2-1 series lead. The Magic will be at home for Game 4 on Monday as they look to extend their lead in the series.

Banchero’s production on Wednesday wasn’t as spectacular as Sunday’s in the series opener. However, the former first-overall pick pieced things together throughout his 34 minutes, ultimately leading to a solid stat line. He shot inefficiently from the field and struggled greatly at the charity stripe, but still finished as one of Orlando’s top scorers in the game. Banchero also contributed on the glass and as a passer before the final horn sounded. The Magic will go home for Game 3, where Banchero could be poised for a bounce-back performance.

Decent production at the free-throw line ultimately helped him sneak into double figures as a scorer, but otherwise, the majority of his success came on defense in this game. Wagner led all players in steals on the evening in his 32 minutes, but he will look for a more balanced effort in Game 3.

He shot inefficiently, especially from beyond the arc, but made contributions as a rebounder and facilitator to help round out his final stat line. Suggs and the rest of the Magic will need to shoot much better in Game 3 than the 33 percent they tallied on Wednesday. Perhaps the familiarity of the home rims could help them get back into rhythm.

Cunningham followed an impressive 39-point outing with another stellar showing in Wednesday’s win. The former first-overall pick continued to fill it up efficiently as a scorer, but his impact as a facilitator more closely resembled his dominant ways during the regular season than in Game 1. He was the only player in Wednesday’s contest to reach double figures in assists, which, combined with his team-high in points, led to a double-double. Cunningham’s seven turnovers in this game are notable. Yet, the positives outweighed the negatives in the decisive bounce-back victory.

Carter was one of Orlando’s most efficient players in Sunday’s win. In 37 minutes, he tied a team-high in assists, doing so without committing a turnover. Additionally, the veteran center missed just one of his nine shot attempts, was one of the team’s leading rebounders, and chipped in defensively with two stocks. Carter’s number wasn’t often called, but he seemed to always make a play when the situation called for one. He’ll have a chance to land strong production again in Wednesday’s Game 2.

Wagner was fairly quiet offensively through the first three quarters of Sunday’s contest, having totaled just eight points on 2-of-8 shooting. Yet, he served as Orlando’s closer. In the fourth quarter alone, the fifth-year forward consistently attacked the rim and ultimately converted all five of his field-goal attempts, scoring 11 of the Magic’s 31 points in the frame. Wagner ended as the team’s second-leading scorer on the evening and was one of five Magic players to log at least four assists. He was effective and timely in the victory, which is what Orlando hopes he can duplicate in Game 2.

As a result of efficient shooting, the former first-overall pick led Orlando in scoring and was the only one to reach the 20-point mark, even without tallying any points in the fourth quarter. Still, his scoring contributions through three periods helped the Magic build and mostly maintain a lead from start to finish. He also chipped in as a passer and came within one rebound of a double-double. Banchero played a strong game on Sunday and has Orlando in position to potentially steal two games on the road to open the series.

The Pistons posted their first 60-win season in 20 years en route to securing the Eastern Conference’s No. 1 seed. Carter was nearly perfect from the floor in his 27 minutes on Friday, with two of his six makes coming from beyond the arc. A blowout victory for the Magic limited Wagner to only 25 minutes of game action on Friday. Still, he made good use of his time on the floor by posting one of the more balanced performances on the team. Nearly half of the fifth-year forward’s points came from the charity stripe, with the rest falling inside the arc, before eventually finishing as Orlando’s second-leading scorer. He also tied team highs in assists and rebounds, highlighting his well-roundedness for the evening. Wagner and the Magic will have just a short amount of time to get ready for Sunday’s opening-round Game 1 against the Pistons.

The NBA ruled in favor of Cunningham and Doncic on their Extraordinary Circumstances Challenge for the 65-game award rule. Both players will now be eligible for season honors such as MVP and All-NBA teams. Doncic missed two games in December due to the birth of his child and Cunningham suffered a collapsed lung. Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards also filed a challenge, but was denied and is not eligible for awards, according to Charania.
