Sasser was listed as doubtful ahead of the season opener as well. Caris LeVert should fill out the backup guard minutes once again with Sasser expected to remain out, and Ausar Thompson should see extra playmaking opportunities after dishing out seven assists on Wednesday.

LeVert should be good to go once again after also being listed as probable ahead of the season opener. He had eight points in 21 minutes off the bench and should see a similar workload in this game.

The Wizards fell short in Wednesday’s season opener, but the play of reserves Johnson and Cam Whitmore in their respective debuts was encouraging. Johnson shot 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and recorded a complete stat line in 26 minutes. As for Whitmore, he contributed 14 points, five rebounds, one assist and one three-pointer in 19 minutes. Both players got good minutes off the bench, opening the door for them to provide solid deep-league value. And their prospects should only improve as the season rolls on.

Sarr did not provide any defensive stats on Wednesday, but he did have an efficient night on offense. The 7-footer shot 50 percent from the field and finished with more assists than turnovers, steps in the right direction given his issues as a rookie. Sarr played 26 minutes on Wednesday, which should increase as the season rolls on. His fantasy value will ultimately be determined by the ability to provide efficient offensive production and record “stocks” consistently. Sarr did not have any steals or blocks on Wednesday.

George is a player many pinpointed as a fantasy breakout candidate this season, and with good reason. The second-year guard had a productive night in Milwaukee, providing the expected three-pointers and defensive stats. All that was missing were the assists, but that isn’t anything to lose sleep over. George will remain in the starting lineup as long as Bilal Coulibaly (thumb) is out, and Kyshawn may retain the role if he can build on Wednesday’s performance.

Bucks staffers gave Middleton a hero’s welcome upon his arrival at Fiserv Forum for his first game at the arena since being traded in February. The veteran forward played well in Wednesday’s opener. Middleton was efficient on offense, shooting over 50 percent from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Two concerns for Middleton in fantasy basketball are his availability and the Wizards’ full investment in rebuilding. In a perfect world, Middleton will play well enough to boost his value heading into the February trade deadline, with a potential move elsewhere ensuring he’s available for the stretch run. That may not be the case if he remains in Washington for the entire season.

Had the Pistons mounted a comeback and won this game, Stewart would’ve been the player of the game for Detroit hands down. The 24-year-old power forward had 20 points on 14 shots, made both of his three-point attempts, grabbed 10 rebounds and had four blocks. All in 25 minutes of action. Stewart isn’t always going to be this efficient offensively and even when he is he doesn’t play over 30 minutes. He’s still going to be hard pressed to provide standalone fantasy value this year.

Cunningham struggled in the season opener against the Bulls. The 24-year-old point guard had just 23 points on 24 shots. Cunningham did record a double-double as he recorded 10 assists, but he also had three turnovers and fouled out of the game. Cunningham will have more efficient games this season, but his 24 field goal attempts show how much the Pistons need his scoring without Malik Beasley and Jaden Ivey (knee).

With Bilal Coulibaly (thumb) still sidelined, this is the quintet many expected to start Washington’s season opener. George’s inclusion in the starting five increases his chances of achieving fantasy relevance, and he has top-100 potential due to his perimeter shooting ability and defensive production. McCollum and Middleton open the season as starters, but they may be players to watch in the lead-up to the February trade deadline with the Wizards rebuilding.

No surprise here as LeVert was listed as probable. The 31-year-old shooting guard should have a significant role this season coming off the bench for a Pistons team that lost Malik Beasley and will be without Jaden Ivey (knee) for the foreseeable future.

Sasser was initially doubtful for Wednesday’s season opener. His absence does not impact fantasy basketball, as starter Cade Cunningham will get the lion’s share of the available minutes at point guard. Daniss Jenkins may play a few minutes off the bench, but he is not worth streaming in this spot.

Sasser is on track to miss Wednesday’s season opener due to a right hip impingement. Daniss Jenkins played 17 minutes off the bench in the Pistons’ preseason finale and may crack the rotation on Wednesday. However, that isn’t guaranteed, and a likely increase in minutes for Cade Cunningham means there isn’t much to gain from streaming Jenkins.

LeVert has been dealing with a sore right knee but is on track to play in Wednesday’s season opener. He’ll provide depth and production off the bench, especially with the Pistons without Jaden Ivey (knee). Duncan Robinson was the starter during the preseason and should retain that role, giving him a slightly higher fantasy ceiling than LeVert.

Riley is dealing with a sprained right ankle, hence his inclusion on the Wizards’ injury report. With the team amid a rebuild, the first-round pick won’t lack opportunities once healthy. If he’s unable to play, there will be more minutes for fellow reserve Cam Whitmore, who was acquired from the Rockets during the offseason. Whitmore isn’t a streamable player yet, but he’s one of many young Wizards worth tracking in preparation for the “silly season.”

Carrington left Thursday’s matchup with Detroit after only four minutes with knee soreness, so his full practice just three days later is certainly encouraging. It doesn’t appear that he’s in danger of missing the opener against Milwaukee on October 22, but fantasy managers should still keep an eye on his status.

While Sarr made all six free throw attempts, he struggled with the physicality of the Pistons’ bigs, most notably starter Jalen Duren. That was sometimes an issue for the Wizards center during his rookie season, and it’s unsurprising given his build. What will help Sarr is being able to knock down perimeter shots. He made 30.8 percent of his three-point attempts as a rookie and shot 1-of-4 in two preseason games. Sarr has top-100 potential, especially as a focal point for the rebuilding Wizards, but he has to get better at dealing with physicality to truly flourish.

McCollum looked good in his final action of the preseason, playing 24 minutes against the Pistons. He and fellow veteran Khris Middleton (3/4/4 in 24 minutes) are in an interesting spot. Under normal circumstances, both would have solid fantasy value as starters. However, with the Wizards rebuilding, it’s fair to wonder how long that will last, and if the team hopes to showcase McCollum and Middleton before the February trade deadline. That question pushes both players down some boards, with McCollum being the superior fantasy option.

Some have targeted George as a potential fantasy breakout candidate, and with good reason. With Bilal Coulibaly (thumb) unavailable to begin the regular season, George should have the runway to start fast when the regular season begins next week. The second-year wing looked sharp in Thursday’s preseason finale, recording a complete stat line. Does George merit being selected with a top-100 pick in standard leagues? Not necessarily, but those willing to reach cannot be blamed for doing so.

Duren’s preseason started slowly, as he was held out of the Pistons’ first two games. After logging 13 minutes in Tuesday’s loss to the Cavaliers, he played 19 on Thursday and thoroughly outplayed Wizards starting center Alex Sarr. Duren may not be a top-50 caliber player, even in free-throw percentage punt builds, but he can offer solid middle-round value in standard leagues. The concern may be playing time, as he averaged 26.1 minutes per game last season. That does more to limit Duren’s ceiling than the free throws, especially with Isaiah Stewart and Paul Reed being capable contributors off the bench.

While Cunningham was efficient in his scoring, his playmaking stood out in Thursday’s preseason finale. Last season, he reached double figures in assists 31 times, and the star point guard did so against the Wizards while committing only two turnovers. Of the 31 games he dished out at least 10 assists last season, Cunningham recorded two turnovers or fewer on two occasions. The turnovers won’t make Cunningham a player to avoid in fantasy drafts; he should be a first-round pick in standard formats. But cleaning up that category would raise his ceiling.

With Jaden Ivey (knee) expected to miss at least four weeks, the Pistons have a hole to fill in their starting lineup. Robinson started the team’s last two preseason games, and his shooting ability may keep the veteran wing in that role. All eight of Robinson’s field goal attempts came from beyond the arc, and having a credible shooter on the floor can open up space for Cade Cunningham and the other Pistons starters. Ron Holland (4/3/4/1 in 22 minutes) and first-round pick Chaz Lanier (9/0/4/1/1 with three three-pointers in 23 minutes) may also see their roles expand with Ivey out, but Robinson is a safe target for managers seeking a three-point streamer.

Carrington exited Thursday’s preseason finale after playing four minutes. He landed awkwardly after attempting to deflect a pass. The good news is that the Wizards announced the second-year guard is dealing with a sore left knee rather than a more serious issue. Washington opens the regular season on October 22 against Milwaukee. Fantasy managers should not panic and push Carrington down their draft boards, unless the Wizards provide an update that proves more serious than the initial diagnosis.

In their third and final preseason game, the Wizards will roll out the same five-man unit that they began the preseason with. Thursday’s starting lineup, which features a combination of youth and experienced veterans, could presumably be the same one used on opening night by Washington when it faces Milwaukee on October 22. Given the Wizards have neither played many preseason games nor gotten many reps together thus far, it’ll be interesting to see how much playing time the main rotation players receive against the Pistons.

Cunningham, who did not play in the Pistons’ most recent game, is back in the lineup for Thursday’s preseason finale. The player to watch is Robinson, who may be on track to begin the regular season as a starter. Jaden Ivey (knee) underwent an arthroscopic procedure that will sideline him for at least four weeks, opening up a place within the starting five. Robinson also started Tuesday’s loss to Cleveland, potentially a sign that the starting job will be his when the regular season begins next week.

Working his way back from a fractured left fibula suffered during a New Year’s Day game against the Magic, Ivey has been dealing with right knee discomfort during the preseason. While the knee issue is not related to the fractured leg suffered last season, it was problematic enough to result in an arthroscopic procedure that will keep Ivey out for at least four weeks. Duncan Robinson started Detroit’s most recent preseason game, an October 14 loss to Cleveland, and he may be the favorite to hold onto that role when the regular season begins. Ivey’s absence will also boost the fantasy values of Ausar Thompson and Tobias Harris, as both must provide more production.

Harris was excellent against the Cavaliers on Tuesday. Without Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey, the 33-year-old power forward was the primary scoring option for the Pistons. He made 5-of-11 attempts from the field and went 7-of-9 from the free throw line. Harris is in line for another significant role with the Pistons this year, making him a nice selection in the middle rounds of fantasy basketball drafts.

Thompson has to be one of the best players in the league that struggles as much as he does shooting. The 22-year-old small forward didn’t even attempt a three-pointer against the Cavaliers and was 1-of-5 from the free throw line. Thompson is 7-of-17 from the free throw line in three preseason games this year and a 62 percent free throw shooter for his career. He could make a serious leap into stardom with improved shooting, but for now the Pistons will likely have to rely on Jaden Ivey, Duncan Robinson and Caris LeVert for outside shooting.

Monday’s game was the second in as many days for the Wizards, resulting in a day off for Alex Sarr. Bagley moved into the starting lineup, and the 2018 lottery pick took advantage of his opportunity. He recorded a double-double in 24 minutes, with the final stat line only missing a three-pointer. Tristan Vukcevic (15/4/3/1 with three three-pointers) also played well, logging 17 minutes off the bench. The backup center competition is unlikely to make waves in fantasy basketball, as Sarr will play significant minutes as the starter. However, Bagley and Vukcevic boast different skill sets, making it possible for both to get their chances during the regular season, depending on the opponent.

Like fellow first-round pick Tre Johnson, Riley looked far more comfortable in his second preseason appearance than in Sunday’s opener against the Raptors. In addition to shooting the ball well, the former Illinois wing took on some on-ball playmaking duties during Monday’s victory. Riley did not take on that role much in college, as he was teammates with Heat rookie Kasparas Jakučionis and current Illinois guard Kylan Boswell. However, that’s something to watch during the regular season. If Riley can do more offensively as a playmaker, that would raise his long-term ceiling.

Carrington and fellow second-year Wizard Kyshawn George (11 points, two assists and one three-pointer) were the only holdovers from the lineup that started Sunday’s loss to the Raptors, as Alex Sarr, CJ McCollum and Khris Middleton all rested on Monday. Bub made the most of his limited shooting opportunities, not missing any of his three attempts from the field. George also shot well, going 3-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line. Carrington and George being starters make both solid late-round fantasy options, with the latter offering a slightly higher ceiling due to his defensive ability.

After shooting 3-of-9 from the field in Washington’s preseason opener on Sunday, Johnson looked more comfortable on Monday. The rookie guard shot efficiently and took on some playmaking responsibilities, dishing out three assists without a turnover. With the guards currently on the Wizards’ roster, Johnson appears likely to begin the season with the second unit. However, with the franchise in the midst of a rebuild, he will play plenty. Johnson is worth the gamble in deep leagues, especially for those willing to exercise some patience. It would be unsurprising if Johnson figured more prominently in the rotation after the February trade deadline.

McCollum looked sharp in his Wizards debut, hitting 7-of-14 shots, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Washington started Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Khris Middleton and Bub Carrington, potentially showcasing an opening night starting five. McCollum will likely have the green light on offense, and fantasy managers can expect plenty of points and triples. The Wizards are the last NBA team to open their preseason schedule, and they’ll do so without an expected starter. Bilal Coulibaly remains out after undergoing thumb surgery a few weeks before the start of training camp, opening up a spot in the starting five. George and Middleton will start at the forward spots on Sunday, with the former potentially being the player more likely to move to the bench once Coulibaly returns. Stewart, who missed the final five games of the Pistons’ first-round playoff series with the Knicks due to a knee injury, has started both of Detroit’s preseason games. Starter Jalen Duren has been out, so this is not a case of Beef Stew taking the lead in a competition for that role. Having failed to crack the top 100 in any of his first five seasons, the best-case scenario for Stewart would be to provide consistent late-round value. However, he isn’t a player who should be selected in standard league drafts.

Detroit was without Jaden Ivey and Tobias Harris on Thursday, so Holland and Duncan Robinson (7/3/3/1 with one three-pointer) moved into the starting lineup. Holland did play in all 82 games as a rookie, but he provided limited fantasy value in a reserve role. And with the Pistons being even deeper this season due to the additions of Robinson and Caris LeVert, and Ivey’s return from a fractured leg, Holland faces a challenging climb to achieve fantasy relevance in 2025-26.

Based on his performances in Detroit’s first two preseason games, Cunningham could be in for a massive 2025-26. Thursday night, he only needed 19 minutes to do his damage, playing efficiently as a scorer and playmaker for his teammates. Detroit did not have its full rotation in Milwaukee, as Jalen Duren, Jaden Ivey and Tobias Harris were all inactive. Yet that did not keep Cunningham from having another excellent outing. Turnovers have been an issue in the past, lowering his value in nine-cat formats. But managers competing in eight-cat leagues should not hesitate to select Cunningham with a first-round pick.

The Pistons have made two changes to the lineup that began the preseason opener against the Grizzlies. Holland and Robinson are in the starting lineup, filling the voids left by Jaden Ivey and Tobias Harris. While both will be in the rotation when the regular season begins, performing well during the preseason may improve their standing within the bench unit. Also of note is Stewart making a second straight start, as the Pistons remain without Jalen Duren.
