Hayes has missed the Lakers’ last three games, resulting in Jarred Vanderbilt playing the center position when starter Deandre Ayton was on the bench. If Hayes cannot play again, that should remain the arrangement on Wednesday. Vanderbilt started Monday’s loss to the Trail Blazers, as the Lakers were without Marcus Smart and Gabe Vincent. He’s worth streaming when allowed to start.

Ayton didn’t have his most productive game of the season on Monday, but logged 36 minutes and nearly landed a double-double against the Trail Blazers. He made more than half of his field goal attempts before finishing as one of the Lakers’ top scorers for the game. The former first-overall pick continues to shoot the ball well and perform decently on the glass early in his tenure with the Lakers. Although he hasn’t often been dominant, Ayton is a nightly double-double threat.

Wth Luka Doncic (finger) and Gabe Vincent (ankle) both sidelined, Vanderbilt earned his first start of the season. He played well with the opening unit — he shot with accuracy, was one of the Lakers’ better rebounders on the evening, and was active on the defensive end to accumulate several steals. His stint in the starting unit may not be permanent, but he made a strong impression despite the loss on Monday.

Reaves followed up his 51-point outing against the Kings with another dominant scoring performance on the second night of a back-to-back. Free-throw production served as a boost on Monday, as it did on Sunday. Yet, Reaves was still efficient on high volume from the floor and could retain with an ultra-high usage until Luka Doncic and LeBron James eventually return from injuries and get back on the floor.

Moody knocked off the rust in his second game back in the lineup to log his first 20-point game of the season. He shot the ball efficiently in his 22 minutes of game action and produced a very strong 12-point third quarter to help Golden State build a double-digit lead and a nice cushion the rest of the way. Moody enjoyed a career-best 2024-25 season as a scorer and could have a similarly productive campaign in his fifth NBA season.

Podziemski utilized the three-point shot to conclude the victory as one of four Warriors to score at least 20 points on Monday. He was most productive as a scorer in the opening quarters of each half, but he also contributed throughout as a facilitator. Kuminga had a productive outing against the Grizzlies on Monday. He made moderate contributions to the scoreboard throughout the first three quarters before finishing strong, closing with 10 fourth-quarter points to conclude the game as Golden State’s leading scorer. The fifth-year forward has shot over 50.0 percent from the field, scored at least 14 points, and secured five or more rebounds in each of the Warriors’ four games thus far. He’s currently averaging career highs in rebounds and assists per game as he continues his encouraging start to the season.

Due to a sore left knee, Hayes was not in uniform for a second consecutive game. His absence meant more minutes for starter Deandre Ayton (22/15/2/1/1), who played 36 and had arguably his best game of the season’s first week. The Lakers went small when Ayton was not on the floor, using Jarred Vanderbilt (9/5/2/2 in 27 minutes) at the five. Expect a similar approach if Hayes cannot play in Monday’s game against the Trail Blazers.

Vincent rolled his left ankle while attempting to challenge a layup attempt during the third quarter, exiting with just over eight minutes remaining in the period. While X-rays on the ankle were negative, Vincent wore a walking boot following the game. With the Lakers hosting the Trail Blazers on Monday, it feels safe to assume he won’t be available. Jake LaRavia (11/6/5/1 with two three-pointers), who played 33 minutes off the bench, may be the player most likely to move into the starting lineup. Dalton Knecht (two points, two rebounds and one block in 13 minutes) is another possibility, but LaRavia would be the player to stream in this spot.

As expected, Smart was Lakers head coach JJ Redick’s choice to replace the injured Luka Dončić in the starting lineup. And there weren’t any surprises regarding the veteran guard’s production. Smart didn’t have a great night shooting the basketball, but the foul line boosted his point total, and he dished out five assists with just one turnover. The Lakers play four games during Week 2, and Dončić won’t be re-evaluated until before the last contest. Smart isn’t a must-add; fantasy managers would be better off with Rui Hachimura, even if he isn’t a point guard.

After putting up 23 points in Friday’s win over the Timberwolves, Hachimura followed that up with another solid performance against the Kings. The only issue was that he did not provide much value in the rebound category. However, Hachimura is in a spot where he can produce more offense, as the Lakers will be without Luka Dončić for at least one week. Hachimura is rostered in just 24 percent of Yahoo! leagues, and he’s worth picking up ahead of the Lakers’ four-game Week 2.

Sunday’s game was the first for the Lakers since losing Luka Dončić to finger and leg injuries, meaning Ayton needed to step up and be a more consistent force than in the first two games. The 7-footer lived up to his self-made nickname of “DominAyton,” recording a double-double and outplaying Sacramento’s Domantas Sabonis. Nights like Sunday will have to be the norm for Ayton during the Lakers’ four-game Week 2, as Dončić could miss all four games.

One game removed from recording his first double-double of the season, Reaves made some personal history on Sunday. Not only was this his first 50-point game, but it was also the second in which the Lakers guard surpassed 40 points. Reaves became the third player in Lakers history to record at least 50 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in a single game, joining Kobe Bryant and Elgin Baylor. In addition to an efficient night from the field, Reaves made a living at the foul line. He made more free throws (21) than the Kings attempted as a team (18), a stat that will undoubtedly raise some eyebrows in Sacramento. However, with Luka Dončić and LeBron James out due to injury, Reaves will have the ball in his hands even more. For those who have him rostered, don’t give in to the temptation to sell high. The Lakers play four games during Week 2, starting with Portland on Monday.

The Lakers are without Luka Dončić for Sunday’s game. He will miss at least one week with finger and leg injuries. He’ll be replaced in the starting lineup by Smart, a solid defender whose offensive production tends to be inconsistent. Horford remains on a plan that has him sitting out one game of back-to-backs. With Tuesday’s game against the Clippers being a nationally televised matchup, the veteran center not playing on Monday is unsurprising. Dončić suffered a sprained finger on his left hand during Friday’s win over the Timberwolves, and he’s also dealing with a lower left leg contusion. While it’s unclear which injury is considered more serious, he will miss at least four games, beginning with Sunday’s matchup with the Kings in Sacramento. Marcus Smart is the player most likely to move into the starting lineup, but he can be a mixed bag offensively. Hachimura excelled in one area statistically on Friday: scoring. He shot efficiently and added a couple of three-pointers en route to finishing as one of four players to score in double figures. The production remained high on Friday for Reaves, who scored 25 points and tallied at least nine assists for the second time this season. His scoring total was a result of efficient shooting both inside and outside the arc, while his growth as a passer during the early part of the season has been fun to watch alongside Luka Dončić. Dončić found a way to one-up himself on Friday after logging a 43-point performance in the season opener against the Warriors. He tallied nearly 50 points in the win over Minnesota and utilized both the three-point shot and the charity stripe to help land the monster scoring total. The veteran guard made his usual impact on the glass and as a passer as well, ultimately falling just shy of a triple-double for the second straight game. Fantasy managers should expect Dončić to continue putting up stellar stat lines as he remains the lead option for the Lakers while LeBron James is sidelined with an injury.

One of the bright spots for the Warriors’ offense on Friday was their ability to produce from the three-point line. Green trailed only Stephen Curry in total made threes on the night and has now made six threes this season. He also functioned well as one of the main facilitators, although his five turnovers are notable in regard to fantasy basketball. Butler logged his least productive outing of the season thus far in the loss to the Blazers. On the second night of a back-to-back, the former league MVP dazzled from beyond the arc and scored efficiently overall before finishing with his second straight game of at least 35 points. After being under restrictions regarding his availability for back-to-backs in recent seasons, Horford was limited to 20 minutes on Tuesday. That factored into the Warriors’ decision to start Jonathan Kuminga, shifting Draymond Green (8/7/9/1/2 with one three-pointer) into the starting center role while Horford came off the bench. The approach worked against the Lakers, but fantasy managers invested in Horford aren’t in a great spot. One has to assume that his availability for back-to-backs will remain in doubt, but the playing time may be something that few bargained for. Starting for the injured LeBron James in Tuesday’s season opener, Vincent could not get going against the Warriors. While Vincent still played 29 minutes, Marcus Smart played 23 off the bench and finished with nine points (3-of-6 FGs, 3-of-4 FTs) and one steal. Following Jimmy Butler III’s addition to the Warriors’ roster in February, the prevailing thought was that he and Kuminga could not be on the court together very often due to spacing reasons. They looked comfortable in Tuesday’s season opener, especially with Kuminga shooting 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. However, it’s fair to question if that is sustainable for a career 33.2 percent shooter. Last season, Kuminga made a career-low 30.5 percent of his three-point attempts, making multiple triples in 14 of his 47 regular-season appearances. Tuesday’s effort was encouraging, but more production is needed before buying into Kuminga as a perimeter shooter.

The third quarter was the only period Reaves struggled, missing all three of his shot attempts. However, that factored into the Warriors building a lead that the Lakers could not erase, as Golden State outscored L.A. by a 35-25 margin. Reaves was 4-of-4 from the field in the fourth quarter, capping a productive night overall, but the Lakers don’t have much margin for error with LeBron James (back) unavailable. Due to a 2-of-10 night from beyond the arc, Curry’s field-goal percentage took a hit in Tuesday’s season opener. However, he frequently visited the foul line, which boosted the veteran guard’s point tally. Add in a complete stat line, including three steals, and there wasn’t much for fantasy managers to complain about regarding Curry’s performance. Adding Butler to the Warriors’ roster just before the February trade deadline changed the equation offensively due to his ability to get to the foul line.
