Embiid is active and set to make his second straight appearance for the Sixers. Philadelphia has been off since December 7, when it lost 112-108 to the Lakers in a game in which Embiid logged 30 minutes for just the second time this season. He’s averaging 18.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game thus far. Fantasy managers are hoping the former MVP can stay healthy enough to start to see an increased workload and eventually increased production.

While the 76ers welcome back Embiid, they’ll be without Tyrese Maxey, as he is out with an illness. Grimes moves into the starting lineup, with the move also meaning that Edgecombe will have the ball in his hands more as a primary playmaker. Both players now boast higher fantasy ceilings.

Maxey’s status was downgraded from probable to questionable on Friday morning, so things may have been trending in this direction. He’s been one of the best players in fantasy basketball this season, and the 76ers won’t have an easy time filling the void. Jared McCain could potentially move into the starting lineup, with VJ Edgecombe and Quentin Grimes in line to receive boosts to their opportunities as well. Kyle Lowry is another option to step in for Maxey, but he is not worth streaming.

Portis is averaging 11.2 points per game this year, but with Giannis Antetokounmpo out of the lineup he’s put up at least 22 points in two of his last three games. The 30-year-old power forward was very efficient with 27 points on 13 attempts and five made three-pointers. He’s still in a reserve scoring role, but with Giannis sidelined there’s more of a runway for Portis to hit his ceiling.

There’s a lot of slack to pick up with Giannis Antetokounmpo out of the lineup. That’s certainly playing into some of the numbers Porter and his teammates have put up recently, not that fantasy managers are complaining. Porter was one assist and three rebounds shy of a triple-double last week against the 76ers. He was able to pull of the triple-double Thursday against the Celtics, but the bigger takeaway is Porter has consistently put up solid numbers this year and Giannis being out has only added to has value in the short-term.

Kuzma started, played 31 minutes and led the Bucks to victory with 31 points while Giannis Antetokoumnpo and AJ Green were sidelined. This was the best case scenario for fantasy managers that used the 30-year-old power forward as a deep league streamer. Kuzma will only return to a reserve role Sunday against the Nets if his teammates are off the injury report.

With Edgecombe playing 24 minutes in each of his three prior appearances, 76ers head coach Nick Nurse said before Sunday’s game that the rookie’s minutes limit would increase “soon.” Sunday must have qualified as “soon,” since Edgecombe played 38 minutes against the Lakers. While the stat line wasn’t great, this is a spot where the increased playing time should be the focus. And with the 76ers off until Friday, Edgecombe has some time to work on his conditioning.

Embiid had a rough night shooting the basketball. In addition to missing all six of his three-point attempts, the 7-footer shot 4-of-15 from inside the arc. Many of his attempts came in the mid-range, and explosiveness seems to still be an issue in the paint. However, fantasy managers should be encouraged by Embiid playing 30 minutes, the second time he’s hit that number this season. The 76ers are off until Friday; hopefully, that time off will help Embiid as he works to get back to full strength.

On a night when Joel Embiid and Paul George (12/6/3/1) combined to score 28 points on 7-of-29 shooting, Maxey did his best to keep the 76ers afloat. Unfortunately for him, another poor third quarter did in the 76ers, with the Lakers winning the period by a 34-24 margin. Maxey finished with another excellent stat line, and he continues to provide top-five value in eight- and nine-cat formats. The 76ers play games on Friday and Sunday during Week 8, starting with the Pacers at home.

Embiid and George are good to go after being listed as probable on the initial injury report. While the latter’s availability does not necessitate a change to the lineup, since he played in Friday’s win over the Bucks, Embiid’s return means Andre Drummond will come off the bench. Rollins had a rough night shooting the basketball, and he’s gone 10-of-27 from the field in the two full games the Bucks have played since losing Giannis Antetokounmpo to a strained calf. While the former MVP’s absence means increased usage for players like Rollins, it also means increased attention from opposing defenses. The Bucks will play twice in Week 8 and have four games in Weeks 8 and 9 for those competing in leagues that will combine the two weeks due to the NBA Cup.

With AJ Green (shoulder) joining Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) on the sidelines, Kuzma was tabbed to move into the starting lineup. While he wasn’t great, things could have been worse for those familiar with the forward’s recent fantasy history. Kuzma’s final stat line only lacked a block, and he shot just under 50 percent from the field. With Green likely missing multiple games, Kuzma will have some value in deep leagues despite the track record.

No Giannis Antetokounmpo means there’s more room for Porter to spread his wings offensively, and the Bucks certainly need him to do it. He was highly productive against the Pistons, with the 32 points being a season-high. Not only did Porter record a complete line, but he was efficient, shooting well over 50 percent from the field and committing just one turnover. KPJ is rostered in 51 percent of Yahoo! leagues, and that number should increase after Saturday’s performance.

Rollins put together a nice two-way performance, despite the loss to Philadelphia on Friday. He was efficient from beyond the arc and was one of the Bucks’ more reliable playmakers as well. The fourth-year guard has remained productive with Kevin Porter Jr. back from injury — the two are co-existing nicely in the starting backcourt so far, which should be a relief for those fantasy managers who had their doubts.

Porter Jr remained productive in his fourth game back from his early-season knee injury. While he didn’t score as well as the previous two outings, he utilized the charity stripe to make his way to 20 points for the third straight game, while tallying his most productive numbers as a rebounder and facilitator since returning. The sample size has been small this season for Porter, but he’s put up good fantasy numbers more times than he hasn’t. With Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) out of the lineup, Porter Jr. will have even more freedom to create on the offensive end.

Portis was one of Milwaukee’s most productive players on Friday. In 23 minutes, he led the team in scoring and made three-pointers, and was one of five Bucks players to score in double figures. The veteran forward didn’t make many contributions elsewhere, however — he didn’t record an assist, had minimal impact on the glass, and finished with one stock on the defensive end. Portis has had one of his least productive seasons in quite some time, from a statistical standpoint, but with the Bucks down Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf), he should have opportunities to pick up his production.

Maxey had one of his least productive offensive performances of the season on Friday. He scored fewer the 20 points for the first time, due to inefficient shooting and relatively low volume, but also wasn’t as productive as a passer against the Bucks. The versatile combo guard made up for his lack of offensive output on the defensive end, however. Philadelphia ultimately didn’t need Maxey to be in top form, as the team cruised to a 15-point road win on the second night of a back-to-back. Maxey, one of the NBA’s top scorers, likely won’t have another performance like Friday’s for a little while. He should resume his offensive domination on Sunday against the Lakers.

Grimes had the hot hand on Friday and used it to finish as the Sixers’ leading scorer for the game. He was especially dialed in from deep, accounting for more than a third of Philadelphia’s 17 made three-pointers on the evening, while also making contributions on the glass and finishing as one of the Sixers’ most productive passers. Arguably, his only blemish was the five turnovers he committed, which were nearly half of Philly’s total. Still, Grimes was productive off the bench and continues to find ways to contribute.

George notched one of his better performances of the season on Friday. In his seventh appearance, the veteran wing reached the 20-point mark for the second time, while also tying a season-high in assists. Most importantly, George logged 30 minutes for the first time all season, which could serve as an encouraging sign in terms of where he’s currently at from a health standpoint. With Joel Embiid under a minutes restriction and Paul George unavailable, Maxey was once again left to shoulder the offensive workload on Thursday. He had an excellent night, marking the ninth game this season in which he’s scored at least 35 points. And Maxey’s lone blocked shot was huge, as his rejection of a De’Anthony Melton shot attempt as time expired preserved the one-point victory. Edgecombe wasn’t the most impactful scorer on Thursday, but he did make the game’s biggest shot. His putback of a Tyrese Maxey fadeaway with nine-tenths of a second remaining gave Philadelphia the 99-98 victory, with the 76ers avoiding losing a game they led by at least 20 points after one quarter for the first time in franchise history. Despite averaging just 8.7 points per game, Edgecombe has been close to a top-50 player in eight-cat formats over the past two weeks. Giannis went down just three minutes into Wednesday night’s game, and the Bucks were fortunate enough to quickly rule out an Achilles injury. However, it turns out that the calf injury could keep him on the shelf for an extended period of time anyway. With reports coming out that Giannis has also asked the Bucks for a trade, we’d expect the team and player to both be cautious with his return, which will likely keep him out until the beginning or middle of January. In the meantime, Bobby Portis Jr. figures to see an uptick in minutes, and both Kevin Porter Jr. and Kyle Kuzma will be leaned on for higher usage. Giannis’ recovery timeline could be additionally interesting because players who signed offseason extensions, like Knicks wing Mikail Bridges, aren’t eligible to be traded until February. With Giannis sidelined for a few weeks, that could open up new trade possibilities for the Bucks, if they choose to move their star.

When a player goes down with a non-contact lower leg injury, as Giannis did on Wednesday, it doesn’t take much effort to fear the worst. The Bucks announced during Wednesday’s game that the superstar forward had been diagnosed with a strained right calf. During his postgame availability, Rivers said doctors had ruled out an Achilles injury. That’s great news for Milwaukee, but the next step will be to determine the severity of the injury.
