Carrington left Thursday’s matchup with Detroit after only four minutes with knee soreness, so his full practice just three days later is certainly encouraging. It doesn’t appear that he’s in danger of missing the opener against Milwaukee on October 22, but fantasy managers should still keep an eye on his status.

Mathews, believed to be in contention for the Knicks’ final available standard contract slot, did not play during Friday’s exhibition loss to the Hornets. Meanwhile, Landry Shamet played 20 minutes off the bench and appears to have solidified his spot on the roster, if not as part of the Knicks’ bench unit. Due to his shooting ability, Mathews should garner interest across the league once he clears waivers.

With three starters, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby and Mitchell Robinson, unavailable, Bridges saw even more of the basketball than he did during the Knicks’ other preseason games. Also of note was his grabbing five offensive rebounds and picking up the slack for the absent Robinson. While Bridges’ fantasy production underwhelmed last season, he’s yet to miss a game in his NBA career and may benefit from the head coaching change. Don’t be surprised if Bridges rebounds and has a good 2025-26.

Friday night’s preseason finale was a big deal for Shamet, and it may have offered a clue regarding the Knicks’ approach to their final available roster spots. While Shamet played 20 minutes off the bench, neither Garrison Mathews nor Pacôme Dadiet saw any action. Dadiet was the subject of trade rumors earlier this preseason, but that was during a time when Malcolm Brogdon was still on the roster. With Brogdon announcing his retirement earlier this week, Dadiet’s odds of being traded to free up a spot for another veteran may have decreased. If so, that may be bad news for Mathews, who was also in the mix for one of those final spots.

While the six turnovers may have been too high for Brunson’s liking, the overall performance was a sign that he’s ready for the regular season. The Knicks played Friday’s game without four key contributors, so the game did not represent the “dress rehearsal” that many teams prefer for their final preseason action. Brunson logged 34 minutes, one minute less than his average since joining the Knicks in 2022. Once the Knicks’ rotation is whole, Brunson may have the ball in his hands a little less than in the past, but he’ll remain the first option on offense.

Friday’s preseason finale will not be a dress rehearsal for the Knicks, who are without multiple rotation players. Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart and Mitchell Robinson are all out, with the latter sitting for injury management reasons. Given the situation, it would not be surprising if Brunson, Bridges and Clarkson had their playing time limited on Friday.

While Sarr made all six free throw attempts, he struggled with the physicality of the Pistons’ bigs, most notably starter Jalen Duren. That was sometimes an issue for the Wizards center during his rookie season, and it’s unsurprising given his build. What will help Sarr is being able to knock down perimeter shots. He made 30.8 percent of his three-point attempts as a rookie and shot 1-of-4 in two preseason games. Sarr has top-100 potential, especially as a focal point for the rebuilding Wizards, but he has to get better at dealing with physicality to truly flourish.

McCollum looked good in his final action of the preseason, playing 24 minutes against the Pistons. He and fellow veteran Khris Middleton (3/4/4 in 24 minutes) are in an interesting spot. Under normal circumstances, both would have solid fantasy value as starters. However, with the Wizards rebuilding, it’s fair to wonder how long that will last, and if the team hopes to showcase McCollum and Middleton before the February trade deadline. That question pushes both players down some boards, with McCollum being the superior fantasy option.

Some have targeted George as a potential fantasy breakout candidate, and with good reason. With Bilal Coulibaly (thumb) unavailable to begin the regular season, George should have the runway to start fast when the regular season begins next week. The second-year wing looked sharp in Thursday’s preseason finale, recording a complete stat line. Does George merit being selected with a top-100 pick in standard leagues? Not necessarily, but those willing to reach cannot be blamed for doing so.

Carrington exited Thursday’s preseason finale after playing four minutes. He landed awkwardly after attempting to deflect a pass. The good news is that the Wizards announced the second-year guard is dealing with a sore left knee rather than a more serious issue. Washington opens the regular season on October 22 against Milwaukee. Fantasy managers should not panic and push Carrington down their draft boards, unless the Wizards provide an update that proves more serious than the initial diagnosis.

In their third and final preseason game, the Wizards will roll out the same five-man unit that they began the preseason with. Thursday’s starting lineup, which features a combination of youth and experienced veterans, could presumably be the same one used on opening night by Washington when it faces Milwaukee on October 22. Given the Wizards have neither played many preseason games nor gotten many reps together thus far, it’ll be interesting to see how much playing time the main rotation players receive against the Pistons.

Dadiet started hot Monday night, hitting three-pointers on consecutive possessions within the game’s first 95 seconds. Unfortunately, those would be the only shots the second-year wing would hit, as he finished 2-of-7 from the field. The good news is that Dadiet was active on the boards, but this was hardly the showcase that could drum up trade interest across the league. Unless Dadiet is moved to a team with room in its rotation for a developmental project, he’s unlikely to impact fantasy basketball this season.

Yabusele received the starting nod on Monday, as the Knicks rested their starters, including Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson. He was solid in his 23 minutes, providing the shooting and physicality the team expects of the 2016 first-round pick. While there may be times during the season when Yabusele has streaming value, especially if the Knicks look to rest Robinson occasionally, he is not a must-draft player.

The Knicks resting their starters on Monday did not result in Kolek moving into the starting lineup, as head coach Mike Brown went with Malcolm Brogdon (4/2/3/1 in 18 minutes). However, the second-year guard took advantage of his opportunities, leading the Knicks in points and assists while shooting over 50 percent from the field. During the preseason, the assumption has been that the Knicks will keep two veterans, with Brogdon and Landry Shamet (DNP-illness on Monday) considered the favorites. However, Kolek, who is on a guaranteed contract, can make the decision difficult for the Knicks by building on Monday’s performance.

Monday’s game was the second in as many days for the Wizards, resulting in a day off for Alex Sarr. Bagley moved into the starting lineup, and the 2018 lottery pick took advantage of his opportunity. He recorded a double-double in 24 minutes, with the final stat line only missing a three-pointer. Tristan Vukcevic (15/4/3/1 with three three-pointers) also played well, logging 17 minutes off the bench. The backup center competition is unlikely to make waves in fantasy basketball, as Sarr will play significant minutes as the starter. However, Bagley and Vukcevic boast different skill sets, making it possible for both to get their chances during the regular season, depending on the opponent.

Like fellow first-round pick Tre Johnson, Riley looked far more comfortable in his second preseason appearance than in Sunday’s opener against the Raptors. In addition to shooting the ball well, the former Illinois wing took on some on-ball playmaking duties during Monday’s victory. Riley did not take on that role much in college, as he was teammates with Heat rookie Kasparas Jakučionis and current Illinois guard Kylan Boswell. However, that’s something to watch during the regular season. If Riley can do more offensively as a playmaker, that would raise his long-term ceiling.

Carrington and fellow second-year Wizard Kyshawn George (11 points, two assists and one three-pointer) were the only holdovers from the lineup that started Sunday’s loss to the Raptors, as Alex Sarr, CJ McCollum and Khris Middleton all rested on Monday. Bub made the most of his limited shooting opportunities, not missing any of his three attempts from the field. George also shot well, going 3-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line. Carrington and George being starters make both solid late-round fantasy options, with the latter offering a slightly higher ceiling due to his defensive ability.

After shooting 3-of-9 from the field in Washington’s preseason opener on Sunday, Johnson looked more comfortable on Monday. The rookie guard shot efficiently and took on some playmaking responsibilities, dishing out three assists without a turnover. With the guards currently on the Wizards’ roster, Johnson appears likely to begin the season with the second unit. However, with the franchise in the midst of a rebuild, he will play plenty. Johnson is worth the gamble in deep leagues, especially for those willing to exercise some patience. It would be unsurprising if Johnson figured more prominently in the rotation after the February trade deadline.

The Wizards will go with a new starting lineup on Monday, choosing to rest several key players on the second night of a back-to-back. This includes Alex Sarr, who had missed the start of training camp due to a calf injury. Nevertheless, Washington will bump Champagnie, Johnson, and Bagley III into the starting lineup as it looks to secure its first preseason win.

With the preseason ending on Friday and rosters needing to be finalized over the weekend, the Knicks are using Monday’s game as an opportunity to evaluate the players fighting for spots. None of the projected starters will play, and reserves Landry Shamet and Ariel Hukporti are out due to illness. Of the players starting on Monday, Brogdon and Dadiet are the ones to watch. The former is looking to lock down a roster spot, and if the Knicks keep two veterans, Dadiet’s name has been mentioned in trade rumors to make room.

McCollum looked sharp in his Wizards debut, hitting 7-of-14 shots, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Washington started Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Khris Middleton and Bub Carrington, potentially showcasing an opening night starting five. McCollum will likely have the green light on offense, and fantasy managers can expect plenty of points and triples. The Wizards may shift in to tank mode at some point, and McCollum could emerge as a trade target, leaving his overall fantasy floor a bit questionable.

The Wizards are the last NBA team to open their preseason schedule, and they’ll do so without an expected starter. Bilal Coulibaly remains out after undergoing thumb surgery a few weeks before the start of training camp, opening up a spot in the starting five. George and Middleton will start at the forward spots on Sunday, with the former potentially being the player more likely to move to the bench once Coulibaly returns. Even if he comes off the bench when the regular season begins, playing time will not be an issue for George on the rebuilding Wizards.

Sarr, the second overall pick in the 2024 draft, injured his left calf while representing France at EuroBasket this summer. He’s ramped up his activity level over the last week and is on track to see action on Sunday. Sarr will likely be under a minutes restriction against the Raptors, as the goal is to ensure he’s at full strength when the regular season begins on October 22.

McBride’s role is unlikely to change much, even with the new head coach, as he’s being asked to provide energy and offense off the bench. However, during his first rotation on Thursday, McBride spent some time at point guard, sharing the backcourt with Jordan Clarkson (10/3/3). Malcolm Brogdon did not play until the second half; the same could be said for Tyler Kolek. To say McBride has been a combo guard during his first four seasons would be a stretch; he was asked to do minimal playmaking for others. If that changes under Mike Brown and Deuce shows himself capable of handling those responsibilities, his numbers may benefit.

Neither Bridges nor Jalen Brunson (11/4/3 with one three-pointer) shot the ball well on Thursday, with the Knicks’ top two scoring options shooting a combined 6-of-25 from the field. However, given their track records, there should not be too much concern ahead of the regular season. This has been an interesting preseason for Towns, as he’s being asked to essentially learn two positions, power forward and center, within Mike Brown’s offensive system. “Not only is he trying to get a rhythm,” Brown said of Towns following Tuesday’s practice, “but he’s trying to figure out what the hell he’s supposed to do when he’s at the five as opposed to when he’s at the four.” Fantasy managers should not be too concerned, but it may take KAT a few games during the regular season to get completely comfortable with the new system.

The Knicks’ preseason home opener required overtime to determine the outcome, but Bridges and the other starters finished their work during the third quarter. Head coach Mike Brown’s desire for the team to play at a faster tempo will take some getting used to, but Bridges has looked relatively comfortable during New York’s three exhibition games. He shot 50 percent from the field against the Timberwolves and was a blocked shot shy of a complete stat line. Based on his current Yahoo! ADP of 80.7, managers may be undervaluing Bridges in early drafts.

The electric scorer out of Texas went No. 6 to Washington, and these early reports indicate he’s endearing himself to players and coaching staff, alike. He could see plenty of playing time right out of the gate for a rebuilding Wizards squad, and fantasy managers could do worse with a late-round flier selection in 2025-26 drafts.

Hart injured his back in Thursday’s exhibition in Abu Dhabi before sitting out on Saturday against the 76ers. His absence on Tuesday shouldn’t concern fantasy managers, as Hart still has ample time to recover ahead of the regular season opener on October 22.
