Oklahoma City led by as many as 18 but faltered down the home stretch as Phoenix rallied late to pull out a comeback win. The reigning NBA MVP came alive in the third quarter, contributing 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting, after a slow start to the contest. The 27-year-old superstar failed to break the 30-point mark for the first time in four games, but managed to get to the line nine times. The defending NBA champions had righted the ship after a pair of late-December losses to the upstart Spurs by winning four straight. They’ll kick off a four-game slate next week with a home bout against the Hornets before squaring off against the Jazz, Grizzlies and Heat.

It’s become abundantly clear that Atlanta’s offense will continue to run through Johnson even with Trae Young back in the mix. He’s eclipsed 20 points in seven of his last nine games since December 18. The 24-year-old rising star has contributed first-round fantasy value this season, averaging 24.0 points, 10.2 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.5 blocks through 33 games. In a December full of near-double-doubles, Holmgren was able to collect his second game of at least 10 points and 10 rebounds on Wednesday — he needed just 25 minutes to achieve the feat.
